Currently skipjack tuna resources have been showing signs of over fishing. Indications were, among others, characterized by a decrease in the catch and the size of the individual, changes in the composition of the catch and the trend of increasing proportions of several types of small fish. Length frequency data collected from March until December 2007 amounted 4,293. Length and weight measurements to determine the length and weight relationship of fish conducted in March, May, July, and December 2007 with a total sample was 296. This paper presents information about the distribution of length and weight, length and weight relationship and the length at first capture (Lc) caught by pole and liner operating in theBanda Sea. The analysis showed that the skipjack tuna has a long range between 30-78 cmFL and weight range between 600-4300 g. Regression analysis of length and weight relationship equation was W=0.0485 L2.751, R2=0.9427 with regression coefficient (r)=0.9709, and slope value (b)=2.751. Result show that the growth pattern of skipjack tuna was negative allometric. The length at first captured (Lc) of skipjack was 41.7 cmFL.

Abstract Skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) is an important pelagic fish species caught in tropical and subtropical waters of the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian oceans. Skipjack tuna (K. pelamis) is also a high economic fisheries resource in Prigi waters which is caught by troll line. High market demand results in high levels of exploitation. This study aimed to identify the length-weight relationship and biological reproduction of skipjack tuna in the Prigi waters. The research was conducted in the sampling period between December 2019 - April 2020 with total samples obtained as much as 1642 fish and was analyzed using linear regression. The results informed that the length-weight relationship of skipjack tuna was positive allometric with equation W=0.007FL3.223 which means that the fish has a fat body. The sex ratio between male and female fish is 1:1. While gonad maturity level obtained in this study is mostly in GML 1 and GML 2 which indicates that the catches were dominated by immature fish, so it is necessary to limit fishing effort so that sustainability of the skipjack tuna (K. pelamis) resource can be managed.

The Bone Bay is part of Fisheries Management Zone WPPI 713 that covers Makassar strait, Flores sea and Bali sea. To such vast marinearea, fisheries management can be started from smaller region, e.g. embayment waters. Biological characteristics of skipjack tuna (Katsuwonuspelamis) are some of important information for developing fisheries management in the area. This research was aimed to determine length-weight relationship, size composititon, growth pattern and biologically feasible size of the fish. Data were obtained from fish caught byfisherman from Januari to December 2007. The bay was divided into three study areas, i.e. Northern, Centre and Southern Zones. The bcoefficients for length-weight relationship in the three zones were equal 3 [not significant]. The average fork-length (FL) in each zoneshowed similar trends: increased from January to June, then stabilized until December. Using von Bertalanffy’s growth model, the maximumFL (L ∞ of 759.75 mm is estimated for fish at age of 84 months. The length at first maturity of the fish is 465 mm (FL).

Title (Bahasa Indonesia): Pendugaan pertama matang kelamin dan pertumbuhan alometri ikan cakalang, Katsuwonus pelamis (Linnaeus, 1758), yang didaratkan di Pulau Ternate Skipjack tuna, Katsuwonus pelamis (Linnaeus, 1758), is a very important species for Indonesian fisheries.  A total of 462 specimens (254 males and 208 females) collected from fish landings in Ternate Island from November 2013 to April 2014 were used to estimate length at first sexual maturity, length-weight relationship, and length-head circumference relationship. The length at first sexual maturity (FL50) was 489.68 mm. The length-weight relationship equations were  W = 0.0001*FL2.7232 for males and W = 0.0002*FL2.6595 for females, respectively. Student’s t-test indicated significant deviation of ‘b’ from ‘3’ towards negative allometric growth (p< 0.05).  The length-head circumference relationship equations were HC = 0.5453*FL1.0263for males and HC = 0.6519*FL0.9985for females, respectively. Student’s t-test indicated no significant deviation of ‘b’ from ‘1’ towards isometric growth (p> 0.05).  Analysis of covariance showed that there was no significant difference between sexes (p> 0.05) for both relationships. Hence, a common length-weight relationship and a common length-head circumference relationship can be derived using pooled data of both sexes.

This paper presents the status of pole and line fishery in Bitung of North Sulawesi, consisting of description of fishing gear, fishing ground, catch composition, catch per unit of effort, and length at first capture. Data were collected during the period of 2004 until 2005. Results show that the pole and line in Bitung operated by wooden vessels of 50 until 80 GT. The fishing grounds were the waters around FADs location in Sulawesi Sea and Maluku Sea. Catch composition consists of skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis), yellow fin tuna (Thunnus albacares), baby tuna (Thunnus spp.), and frigate tuna (Auxis spp.), while the bycatch consisted of dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus) and rainbow runner (Elagatis bipinnulatus). Catch per unit of effort analysis shows that catch per unit of effort value of baby tuna (Thunnus spp.) increased on August 2004, whereas catch per unit of effort value of skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) increased on September 2004. The length at first capture of skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) was 49,3 FLcm. The catch size was bigger than the length at first maturity for skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis). The length at first capture of yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) was 51,6 FLcm. This catch size was smaller than the length at first maturity for yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares).

The study was carried out to determine length-weight relationship and sex ratio of a freshwater fish Amblypharyngodon mola (Hamilton 1822) collected from Dekar haor of Sunamganj district during the period of January to August 2017. A total of 2000 fishes were collected for the study and categorized these fishes into three groups namely males, females and combined sexes. Among 2000 mola 777 were male and 1223 were female. Length-weight equations and the correlation coefficients obtained for males, females and combined ones were: males Y = –1.97 + 3.00X, r = 0.883; females Y = –2.30 + 3.41X, r = 0.914 and combined Y = –2.11 + 3.16X, r = 0.904. Female’s A. mola attained more weight with the increases in length. Value of correlation coefficient ‘r’ was 0.883 for male and exhibited highly positive correlation between length and weight. On the contrary, ‘r’ value for female was 0.914 and it had also strongly positive correlation between length and weight relationships. Length-weight relationship of A. mola for male, female and combined sexes showed allometric pattern of growth. Condition factor ‘K’ for male, female and combined sexes was 1.09, 1.05 and 1.06, respectively and indicated better condition of fishes. The highest sex ratio (1 : 2.05) was found in May and the lowest (1 : 1.33) was in February. Dominance of females over males throughout the year was observed with an average ratio of male and female 1 : 1.57. Therefore, results of the study indicate that the existing hydrobiological conditions of the haor are conducive for food availability, free movement, feeding and better growth of the fish. Asiat.
