Abstract As many other countries Sweden has been hit hard by the Corona pandemic, with high numbers of dead in the older population. Since march 16, 2020, the authorities have encouraged people 70+ to voluntarily quarantine and avoid contacts outside the household. How has this affected older people’s everyday lives? This study reports on results from a web-survey on the everyday life experiences of Swedes 70+ carried out between May 28 and July 13, 2020 (n=1 926). The presentation focuses answers to an open-ended question: “Describe with your own words how your life has been affected by the Corona pandemic”. A qualitative content analysis was used to investigate changes in the everyday lives of the respondents and their appreciations of these changes. Results show that older Swedes have mostly adhered to public recommendations of self-isolation and withdrawn from social and family contacts, as well as paid and volunteer work. The vast majority (76%) of the respondents describe what they see as negative life changes, such as loss of structure in their everyday life, loss of contact with children/grandchildren and friends, loss of meaningful activities, loss of abilities due to forced unemployment and experiences of ageism. Experiences of loneliness, depression and drop in quality of life are common. Some positive changes were reported. We argue that the experience of the 70+ population during Corona needs to be understood in relation to the promise of the third age, where everyday restrictions are experienced as a forced disengagement into a fourth age life style.

IntroductionMultimorbidity is the simultaneous occurrence of several (chronic) diseases. Persons living with multimorbidity not only have complex care needs, but the burden of care often has a negative impact on their family lives, leisure time and professional activities. The aim of this project is to systematically review the literature to assess how multimorbidity affects the everyday lives of middle-aged persons, and to find out what abilities and resources help in the development of coping strategies to overcome the challenges of living with it.Methods and analysisWe will systematically search for studies reporting on the everyday life experiences of middle-aged persons (30–60 years) with multimorbidity (≥2 chronic conditions) in MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Social Sciences Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index Expanded, PSYNDEX and The Cochrane Library from inception. We will include all primary studies that use quantitative, qualitative and mixed methodologies, irrespective of publication date/study setting.Two independent reviewers will screen titles/abstracts/full texts, extract data from the selected studies and present evidence in terms of study/population characteristics, data collection method and the phenomenon of interest, that is, everyday life experiences of middle-aged persons with multimorbidity. Risk of bias will be independently assessed by two reviewers using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. We will use a convergent integrated approach on qualitative/quantitative studies, whereby information will be synthesised narratively and, if possible, quantitatively.Ethics and disseminationEthical approval is not required due to the nature of the proposed systematic review. Results from this research will be disseminated at relevant (inter)national conferences and via publication in peer-reviewed journals.PROSPERO registration numberCRD42021226699.

Abstract Background: Chronic pain is a costly, widespread condition that often reduces the quality of life of individuals who suffer from it, for whom healthcare interaction is seldom efficient or free of problems. Outcomes of coping with chronic pain can depend upon patients’ approaches towards their pain, their defensive or offensive behaviours and their choices based upon their self-efficacy. Thus, even when their symptoms and diseases seem homogeneous, patients should be regarded as multidimensional individuals and their care plans should be individually tailored. The aim of our study was to examine how individuals with chronic pain manage their everyday lives and, from their perspectives, how primary care organisations should support them. Method: We conducted qualitative content analysis on the written narratives of 21 patients with chronic pain and held a focus group discussion with 15 of them. Results: The overarching theme in the patients’ narratives was that individuals with chronic pain develop adaptability in managing their everyday lives. Therein, the first sub-theme captures how such individuals use their bodies and souls to condition themselves and adapt to the people around them, take control of their everyday lives and find empowerment, whereas the second sub-theme captures how they interact with primary care organisations, their experiences with such interaction and the need to be treated with respect. Conclusions: For patients living with chronic pain, managing everyday life, the accompanying challenges and ongoing interactions with healthcare organisations requires developing adaptability. Although the individuals indeed bear great responsibility for their own health and wellbeing, healthcare personnel can ease that burden by adopting person-centred approaches in their care. However, to that end, healthcare personnel need more knowledge about supporting individuals living with chronic pain in order to ease their suffering.

The methods and tools used by Lean management can be used for any activity that is specifically introduced to the company. On this basis, the objective of this paper is the implementation of a Lean office with a 5S system transformation into the traditional office environment of a private business. During the workflow, it is also planned to create new habits in this narrow space that will incorporate the organizational culture into the everyday life of the business making the administration more effective. The 5S concept is new and helps the company to operation on a larger scale with fewer inputs than before. Figures are made for better understanding and a Red Tag is created which is the first step of the process. Red Tag tells the employees about the history and the process which will be needed on it. The basic of lean thinking is the contunious improvement in the quality of the product while minimaxing the wastes created during the process. The Next Broker Consultancy Ltd adopted this new way of management and made sure that all the necessary measurement are taken to insure smooth flow of the process.

Veena Das has introduced a major shift in our contemporary conception of ethnography. While she brings forward a new way of looking at everyday life, which is already a major achievement, she also offers a conceptual resolution to a classical unresolved opposition between the individual and the collective, and between idiosyncratic psychology (subjectivity) and collective modes of thinking, through a challenging debate on what makes one a member of a group and yet radically distinct from all others. The ethnography in her book Affliction stands on three major pillars: The first is the ethnographer’s subjective position in the field regarding the issues of lives, testimony, and research. The second is the neighborhood as the site of fieldwork, with all of its heterogeneity, rather than the group, such as an ethnic or racial group or one cohering around another criterion of belonging. The third and final pillar is the focus on the ordinary through ethnography of the everyday. I then illustrate Veena Das’s perspective on subjectivity with my own fieldwork with survivors of the Cambodian genocide.

Det er nødvendig å få mer kunnskap om hva barnehagene og personalet i samisk-lulesamisk område gjør for å håndtere pålegg og intensjoner i styringsdokumentene om samisk innhold i barnehagehverdagen. Forskningsarbeidet som er bakgrunn for denne artikkelen tar utgangspunkt i et sosiokulturelt perspektiv og en institusjonell etnografisk tilnærming. Barnehagens styringsdokumenter og personalets beretninger om tanker og erfaringer med å iverksette og utvikle det pedagogiske innholdet og arbeidet i barnehagens hverdagsliv er sentrale i datamaterialet. Analysene gav mulighet for å peke på kjennetegn for og egenskaper ved faglig innhold og kvalitet i arbeidet med samiske tema. Det fremkommer momenter for videre utvikling og mulige valg for kompetanse og føringer for området samiske språk og kultur i enhver barnehage. Det er åpenbart at det må gjøres en innsats på alle nivå for å ta vare på og utvikle lulesamisk kultur og språk så vel innen- som utenfor forvaltningsområdet.It is necessary to gain more knowledge about what the barnehage and its staff in the Pite- and Lule-Sami region in Norway do to meet the requirements and fulfill the intentions of the curriculum when it comes to Sami content in the everyday life of the barnehage. The research reported on in this article has its departure point in a sociocultural perspective and uses institutional ethnography as one of its approaches. The barnehage curricula and the staffs narratives, thoughts and experiences are central in the data. The analysis gave the possibility to point out some central features and traits of the content and quality of the work on Sami topics. Areas for further development and possible choices concerning competence and guidelines for the area of Sami language and culture in all barnehager were found. It is obvious that stronger efforts are needed on all levels to sustain and to develop the Lule-Sami culture and language both within the Sami language municipalities and other municipalities.

Despite the growing popularity of vegetarian foods and diets, the vast majority of people in North America and other parts of the affluent world still eat meat. This article explores what ordinary people think about eating animals and how they navigate the ethical questions inherent in that praxis. Drawing from interviews with 24 people living in Ottawa, Canada, the study shows how the concepts of dominion, stewardship and reconciliation manifest in the everyday lives of ordinary people as models for human relations with nonhuman others and the environment. These ideas resonate in the lives of ordinary people, both religious and nonreligious, and entwine as people try to make sense of how to live with the fact that their everyday food consumption causes suffering and harm. This study shows that in the context of everyday life, dominion, stewardship and reconciliation are not alternative views, but connected to each other, and serve different purposes. The study highlights a need for analyses that constitute practical ways to renew the broken relationships within creation and which incorporate nonreligious people into the scope of analyses that focus on the relationships between humans and nonhuman creation.

Digital technologies are increasingly pervading our everyday lives. Many of our everyday practices involve the appropriation of digital technologies. The aim of this piece is to discuss two central issues surrounding this digitalisation of everyday life: (i) what constitutes digital culture?; and, (ii) how do digital technologies transform ownership? These questions are considered in this work with the intention of creating a benchmark from which future explorative (empirical) case studies can be developed. The central argument of the piece is that the study of digital technologies should be framed within everyday life. In other words, the study of digital technologies should be redefined as the study of the digitalisation of everyday life.

The article presents a many-sided analysis of a pamphlet by Giovanni Marana translated by Antiochus Kantemir into Russian in 1726. In the first part of the article, we describe various editions of Marana’s pamphlet and establish the one that became the source for Kantemir’s translation. This source is found out to be the publication of the pamphlet in one of the “Élite des bons mots” collections. Next, the correspondence between the text of the translation and the French text is analyzed, the deviations and errors in the Kantemir’s text are revealed and their explanation is given. It is concluded that the surviving manuscript of the translation was made from an earlier one and was not the final version of the text. The manuscript of the translation was published in 1868 as a part of the collected works by Antiochus Kantemir and was subjected to a considerable revision. The second part of the article is devoted to comparing the text of the manuscript and the published text, describing spelling and punctuation corrections, as well as mistakes made during the publication of the manuscript. The contradictions in introduced spelling corrections are noted. In the third part of the article, the technique of translation, ways of transferring lexical and syntactic units to Russian are analyzed. Kantemir uses a large number of borrowed words to describe the everyday life in Paris and France, however, mainly Slavic word-building models are used for translating the behavioral sphere vocabulary. The fourth part of the article describes the stylistic key of translation. While making the language of translation closer to the language of the French original, the translator left Russian as a basis, which he slavicised in two ways: first, with a small number of “background slavonicisms”, evenly distributed throughout the text; secondly, with “slavonicisms-inclusions”, creating points of stylistic tension. It is concluded that the degree of slavicisation of the text is not great.

The essay thematises the question of care in conditions of total power - not merely extra muros, in the everyday life of the Third Reich, but in its most radical articulation, the concentration camp. Drawing inspiration from Todorov?s work, the essay engages with Levinas, Agamben, Derrida and Nancy, to investigate Heidegger?s determination of Dasein?s horizon through a solitary confrontation with death. Drawing extensively on primary testimonies, the essay shows that when the enclosure of the camp became the Da of existence, care assumed a radical significance as the link between the death of another and the death of oneself. In the face of an apparatus of total power and its attempt to individuate and isolate death, the sharing of death in the figure of care remained one?s most inalienable act of resistance and the last means to hold on to death as something that could be truly one?s own.
