Online media use and HPV vaccination intentions in mainland China: integrating marketing and communication perspectives to improve public health

Abstract This study investigates the role of media in shaping human papilloma virus vaccination intentions in mainland China by applying both communication and marketing-focused theoretical frameworks in order to better understand ways to increase vaccine uptake across young men and women in China. An online survey (N = 359) revealed direct effects of online information consumption on perceived scarcity of the vaccine, as well as an indirect effect via perceived influence of media on others. Scarcity perceptions, in turn, predicted vaccine attitudes and behavioral intentions. Additionally, gender differences emerged in the data. Compared with women, men’s intent to be vaccinated were not high, even if they realized the vaccine shortage. Implications for theory and practice are discussed.

AbstractProstate cancer affects a significant proportion of men worldwide. Evidence from genetic and clinical studies suggests that there may be a causal association between prostate cancer and the human papilloma virus (HPV). As HPV is a vaccine-preventable pathogen, the possibility of a role in prostate cancer causation may reinforce the importance of effective HPV vaccination campaigns. This is of particular relevance in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, which may have considerable effects on HPV vaccine uptake and distribution.

Background: Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is a common sexually transmitted infection. The HPV vaccination is an effective method of preventing cervical cancer and genital warts. The present study examined females’ perceptions of male HPV vaccination. Methods: Participants were females (N = 306) from one Midwestern university. Results: Results indicated significant differences in perceived benefits to male HPV vaccination students’ based on grade and knowing a male/female that had the vaccine. No significant differences in perceived barriers were found in the study. Conclusions: These findings should be considered when developing programs aimed at educating students on the male HPV vaccine. The role of females in increasing male HPV vaccination rates should be considered.

Abnormal cervical is still  in high levels of  which marked by the outbreak of the Human Papilloma Virus, It is not offset by the use of vaccination (HPV) Human Papilloma Virus which as the primary prevention of the spread of Human Papilloma Virus . recorded in Dara Jingga clinic in  2015, there were 226 people in the state of the cervix abnormal while those who making vaccination extremely low at only 40 people. Likewise, in 2016 there were 301 people in a state of abnormal cervical and vaccinated only 16 people . Based on it, this research is the research which aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge, economic status, family role and the role of health personnel  against the Human Papilloma Virus vaccination in Dara Jingga Clinic  Jambi City. This research is descriptive analytic with cross sectional design, the data collected through questionnaires, with a population was 321 people. using  acidental sampling technique with  sample was 32 people, research has been conducted on 22 to 24 August 2016 using univariate  and bivariate analysis assisted by a computer program. The results of the univariate analysis of vaccination picture were 10 respondents (31.3%) take advantage of HPV vaccination and 22 respondents (68,8%) did not take advantage of the HPV vaccination, an overview of knowledge were five respondents (15,6%) have sufficient knowledge, 15 respondents (46,9%) had a good knowledge,12 respondents (37,5%) had poor knowledge, an overview of economic status,  13 respondents (40,6%) had high economic status and  19 respondents (59,4% ) have lower economic status, description of the role of health workers13 respondents (40,6%) have a good role of health personnel and  19 respondents (59,4%) has the role of health personnel is not good. Overview of the role of the family, 11 respondents (34,4%) has the role of a good family and  21 respondents (65,6%) had a family roles goodles. the result of these studies show a relationship between the mother's knowledge by vaccination with HPV (Human Papilloma Virus ) with a p value of 0,035, the relationship between economic status with vaccination HPV (Human Papilloma Virus with p value 0,002, their relationship with the role of HPV vaccination of health workers with p value 0,002, their relationship with the family role of HPV vaccination with a p value of 0,004.Keywords: Knowledge, Economic Status, Role of health personnel, Role of Family,HPV Vaccination (Human Papilloma Virus)

This paper examines the effect of chronotype on the delinquent credit card payments and stock market participation through preference channels. Using an online survey of 455 individuals who have been working for 3 to 8 years in companies in mainland China, the results reveal that morningness is negatively associated with delinquent credit card payments. Morningness also indirectly predicts delinquent credit card payments through time preference, but this relationship only exists when individuals’ monthly income is at low and average level. On the other hand, financial risk preference accounts for the effect of morningness on stock market participation. Consequently, an additional finding is that morningness is positively associated with financial risk preference, which contradicts previous finding in the literature. Finally, based on the empirical evidence, we discuss the plausible mechanisms that may drive these relationships and the implications for theory and practice. The current study contributes to the literature by examining the links between circadian typology and particular financial behaviours of experienced workers.

AbstractObjectiveThe success of any COVID-19 vaccine program ultimately depends on high vaccine uptake. This study determined overall intention to receive a COVID-19 vaccine and identified factors that predict intentions to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in Canada.MethodsIndividuals from research cohorts from the general population of British Columbia aged 25-69 were invited complete an online survey based on validated scales and theoretical frameworks to explore intention to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Two multivariable logistic regression models were conducted to determine factors associated with intention to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.ResultsOf 4,528 respondents, 79.8% intended to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. In multivariable modeling, respondents who intended to receive the vaccine had higher vaccine attitudinal scores (p <0.001), reported greater influence of direct social norms (p = 0.001), and indirect social norms, including their family physician (p = 0.024), and Provincial Health Officer (p = 0.011). Older individuals (>60 years) were more likely to intend to receive the vaccine, while females (95%CI 0.57,0.93), those with less than high school education (95%CI 0.5,0.76), those who self-identified as non-white (95%CI 0.60,0.92), self-identified as Indigenous (95%CI 0.36,0.84) and essential non-health care workers (95%CI 0.59,0.86) had lower adjusted odds of intending to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.ConclusionsTo optimize vaccine coverage, public health should focus on key messages around vaccine safety and benefit, and leverage trusted practitioners for messaging. As certain key populations report a lower intention to vaccinate, there is a need for in-depth education and support for these communities to ensure optimal uptake.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine hesitancy contributes to unsatisfactory vaccination coverage in Korea despite its high efficacy in preventing various diseases including cervical cancer. To enhance HPV vaccine uptake, effective communication with the public is key. To develop effective health promotion messages, this study examined the effects of message format on attitudes and intentions toward HPV vaccination, specifically focusing on anticipated action and inaction regrets. It employed a randomized experimental message design format (narrative versus didactic messages). A total of 222 Korean undergraduate students who had not received the HPV shot participated in the experiment. The results showed that didactic messages produce greater anticipated inaction regret, which further influences HPV vaccination attitudes and behaviors. Anticipated regret could potentially explain mixed narrative effects across health behaviors as described in existing literature.

Labaree shed light on the problems particular to the preparation of educational researchers who are practitioners. This is especially salient to faculty working in newly deigned EdD programs affiliated with the Carnegie Project in the Education Doctorate (CPED) because they are working to develop scholarly practitioners with dissertations in practice. Key to this preparation is the need for EdD students to balance what they learn, or their new cultural orientation, from normative to analytical, personal to intellectual, particular to universal, and experiential to theoretical. This chapter focuses on Labaree's difference of the experiential to the theoretical. The chapter provides varied definitions of theory and what this means for practitioners working to find answers to problems of practice while seeking doctorates. The theories EdD students find most relevant are provided along with samples of theoretical frameworks from actual dissertations. Conclusions lead to a critical yet, hopeful view of theory and practice.

Introduction. Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates in Kansas historically have been low among children and adolescents. How Kansas parents and guardians perceive the HPV vaccine may influence vaccination rates among Kansas youth. Social media messages also may influence perceptions, suggesting implications for current and future disease and cancer burden. Methods. Eligible Kansas guardians of children aged 9 - 17 years completed an online survey. The survey assessed their perceptions about a) HPV and the HPV vaccine, b) HPV and HPV vaccine representation on social media, and c) the effects that social media has on their perceptions about HPV and the HPV vaccine. Results. Most Kansas guardians (n = 55, 57.9%) indicated seeing information about HPV and the HPV vaccine on social media. Kansas guardians who had reported seeing information on social media about the HPV vaccine were significantly more likely to perceive that the HPV vaccine could kill their child than those who had not seen information (t(79) = 0.019). Additionally, children of wealthier Kansan guardians were vaccinated more than children of less wealthy guardians. Conclusion. Social media messages may be influencing Kansan guardians to think the HPV vaccine is lethal in their children. Future campaigns increasingly should be focused on HPV vaccine safety and effectiveness.
