Abstract Calcinosis cutis is characterized by the deposition of calcium salts in the skin and subcutaneous tissue. It is divided into the following subtypes: dystrophic, metastatic, iatrogenic, idiopathic and calciphylaxis. In this case, we report a 13-year-old Syrian boy with idiopathic calcinosis cutis, the lesions were unusually widespread, unlike the common condition which is usually localized to one area. The case was unrelated to any systemic or local disorders, and the patient had no complications, so no treatment was planned. As the best of our knowledge, there are very few cases of diffuse or widespread idiopathic calcinosis cutis. We analyzed the clinical, laboratory, radiographical and pathological characteristics of our patient, which helped us to reach the final diagnosis. We will discuss the pathogenesis, investigation and management of this disease.

Calcinosis cutis is an uncommon soft tissue lesion characterized by the deposition of calcium salts in the skin or subcutaneous tissue attributed to a wide variety of causes. We present a case of idiopathic calcinosis cutis in an adult male, who presented with a swelling in the right iliac region. Chalky white aspirate and amorphous basophilic granular material on microscopy suggestive of calcium deposits were noted. Histopathological examination of the excised mass coupled with appropriate clinical background led to the final diagnosis of idiopathic calcinosis cutis. We present this case with a complete diagnostic workup to undermine the importance of considering this lesion in the differential diagnoses of a subcutaneous hard lump in an otherwise healthy patient.

Calcinosis cutis is a rare disorder characterized by of deposition of insoluble calcium salts in the skin and subcutaneous tissue. Five subtypes of calcinosis cutis are described: dystrophic, metastatic, idiopathic, iatrogenic, and calciphylaxis.1 Of these subtypes, dystrophic calcinosis (DC) is the most common, and it is the most frequently seen in association with underlying autoimmune connective tissue diseases.2 Dermatomyositis, systemic sclerosis and less commonly systemic lupus erythematous were described to be complicated by DC. However, DC associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is extremely rare.2 The condition causes substantial morbidity and is associated with pain and limitation of movement when the process involves areas close to joints or when ulceration occurs.2 We report a middle age Sudanese woman with good controlled RA who developed dystrophic calcinosis cutis.

To present a case report of extragingival pyogenic granuloma on lower lip which is an uncommon site for pathological entity and also to emphasize the reason for its occurrence. Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a benign vascular neoplasm more often appear as lobulated or smooth red nodular lesion commonly in gingiva. Extragingival occurrence of PG is very rare. The present article reports a rare case of 55-year-old female with PG presenting rapid growing mass on the lower lip. This article highlights the possibility on the reason for its occurrence which is important for the diagnosis in this atypical location. The primary etiology of lower lip lesion is trauma and contributory factors being poor oral hygiene and betel quid chewing. Pyogenic granuloma is one of the common lesions in oral cavity. This article highlights the pyogenic granuloma on lip which is an unusual site. Although it can be diagnosed clinically, atypical presentations lead to inappropriate diagnosis. Therefore, further investigation by biopsy confirms final diagnosis upon which treatment is instituted.

Calcinosis cutis is a condition, where there is deposition of calcium salts in skin and subcutaneous tissue, seen often in the middle to elderly aged population and is rare in neonates and infants. There are many aetiological factors, but in neonates and infants it is mostly seen as complication of extravasation of intravenous calcium infusion or trauma. For uncomplicated cases supportive treatment has been advocated. Authors describe a case presented with calcinosis cutis, who was treated for transient hypoparathyroidism in neonatal period.

Calcinosis cutis is a rare disorder characterized by the deposition of calcium in the skin and subcutaneous tissue. Unilateral idiopathic calcinosis cutis has only rarely been reported in the literature. Here, we report the case of a 7-year-old healthy girl who presented with multiple asymptomatic hard nodules on the right side of her body. Histopathological, radiological, and extensive blood investigations confirmed the diagnosis of unilateral idiopathic calcinosis cutis.

Calcinosis cutis refers to the deposition of calcium salts in the cutaneous and subcutaneous tissue and is frequently associated with inflammation. Gastric calcinosis can be classified into metastatic, dystrophic, and idiopathic; metastatic calcinosis is the most common type. In metastatic calcification, calcium salts are deposited in normal soft tissues in the setting of altered metabolism of serum calcium and phosphorus and is a rare and serious complication of chronic renal failure. The important factors contributing to the development of metastatic calcinosis are hypercalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, and an elevated calcium-phosphate product. The most striking feature of this diagnosis is the calcification around the large joints. While it mostly involves dermis of small and medium-sized vessels, it can rarely affect the mucosal layers of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Calcinosis presents as a marker for the presence of calcifications in other organs, such as heart or lung, which can be life-threatening. Patients rarely present with clinical symptoms of GI upset, dyspepsia, or epigastric pain that are attributed to calcinosis. If patients present with GI symptoms, infectious causes remain to be higher on the differential. We present a case of incidental finding of gastric mucosal calcinosis during the workup and treatment of dysphagia.

Subcutaneous tissue emphysema in general terms is defined as an abnormal presence of air under pressure, along or between fascial planes. A sudden blast of air, during an ongoing endodontic treatment or an endodontic surgery can sometimes cause movement of this air through the loose connective tissue layers to distant areas. In case of occurrence of emphysema, the condition should be carefully examined as the entire diagnosis is based merely on clinical examination. The clinician should be aware of the common causes, characteristic diagnostic features, possible complications and the management of the condition. This entrapped air in some cases is self healing and in some cases can lead to serious complications and death. The case report described is a successful management of unintentional and unfortunate tissue emphysema. The case report also emphasis on the importance of timely and accurate diagnosis of the condition.
