Calcinosis cutis is an uncommon soft tissue lesion characterized by the deposition of calcium salts in the skin or subcutaneous tissue attributed to a wide variety of causes. We present a case of idiopathic calcinosis cutis in an adult male, who presented with a swelling in the right iliac region. Chalky white aspirate and amorphous basophilic granular material on microscopy suggestive of calcium deposits were noted. Histopathological examination of the excised mass coupled with appropriate clinical background led to the final diagnosis of idiopathic calcinosis cutis. We present this case with a complete diagnostic workup to undermine the importance of considering this lesion in the differential diagnoses of a subcutaneous hard lump in an otherwise healthy patient.

Congenital granular cell epulis (CGCE) is a rare benign soft tissue lesion that usually originates from the neonatal gingiva and can lead to difficulty in breathing and feeding upon birth. This current case report describes a female newborn with a gingival mass that was identified by prenatal fetal ultrasonography. At birth, the oral mass was observed to protrude from the mouth, which adversely affected feeding. The lips could not be closed. The breathing was unaffected. Through a multidisciplinary team approach involving several healthcare professionals, the mass was successfully removed under general anaesthesia during an uncomplicated surgical procedure. Postoperative histopathological examination confirmed that the mass was a CGCE of the newborn. The infant recovered well after the operation.

Abstract Aim Although it is rare for anosmia to be caused by olfactory lesions, it is commonplace for some form of imaging to be undertaken to investigate olfactory loss in patients. This study aimed to identify the pick-up rate of pathology in patients who had an isolated complaint of anosmia. Method We undertook a retrospective study over a 2-year period between 2018 to 2020 in a teaching hospital. The cases were identified using the hospital radiology database for patients referred for CT or MRI of their head or sinuses due to anosmia. Patients referred with symptoms other than olfactory loss were excluded. Results Out of the 132 scans undertaken in this period, 52 were included with 47 being MRI scans. There were 5 (10%) patients who had intracranial pathology identified and these were all on MRI scans. Only 2 (4%) cases had actual olfactory tract-related abnormalities. This included absent olfactory bulbs and a soft tissue lesion within the region of the olfactory apparatus. Conclusions This study suggests a 4% pick up rate of olfactory tract-related pathology which demonstrates some value when investigating anosmia. However, with the large number of scans that do not alter management and the ever-increasing burden on our health system, large scale studies are needed to develop an evidence-based risk stratification approach.

Fibroma is a common soft tissue lesion of the oral cavity, however, the origin of broma in a palatal region is rare. It may arise as a hyperplastic inammatory reaction in response to a local inciting agent, inammatory source, or chronic traumatic injury. These masses represent hyperplasia instead of true neoplasm. We present a case of broma present on the palatal region in an 8- year-old child diagnosed based on clinical, radiological, and histological features.

<p class="abstract">Squamous cell carcinoma of middle ear is a rare entity. We present a case of 77 year old male, with squamous cell carcinoma of middle ear. Patient presented with blood tinged otorrhoea. Oto-endoscopy examination revealed a soft tissue lesion in middle ear which bled on touch. Histopathological study of this soft tissue lesion gave a diagnosis of well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Radical clearance of the tumour achieved after removal of the malleus and incus. Tumour was seen extending into the eustachian tube orifice and it was removed in toto. Uderlying bone was ablated using diode laser to confirm the radical clearance. Later patient was given radiotherapy 6 weeks after surgery to allow the healing of the operative site. The objective to report this case was to emphasize the importance of early diagnosis and prompt treatment for a better survival. Long standing history of ear discharge with soft tissue lesion bleeding on touch should always be evaluated by histopathological study to exclude malignancy.</p>

Oral cavity which represents the first part of the human digestive system is housed by innumerable microorganisms. It is subjected to be under constant wear and tear of the tissues and is also vulnerable to various infections, lesions and tumors. This article represents some of the most common benign soft tissue lesion in the oro-facial region. It also signifies the importance of possible early diagnosis and management either conservatively or by surgical removal of the lesion.

Introduction: Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) accounts for ~10% of thyroid malignancies. Of all the oral malignancies only about 1% are metastases to the oral cavity. Focal oncocytic trans-differentiation results in neoplasia consisting predominantly of hurthle cells that can represent benign Hurthle cell adenoma or malignant Hurthle cell carcinoma. A 60 Case report: year female with complaint of left mandibular swelling came to opd, on CT it reveals lytic hyperenhancing solid expansile soft tissue lesion is seen in posterior body and ramus of mandible on left side, measuring 3.2*2.0*2.5 cms. In conclusion, fac Discussion: ial skeleton metastasis of thyroid malignancy is very rare. Most advantageous option in regards to treatment is surgical resection followed by radio-iodine therapy.

Actinomycosis is gram-positive saprophytic infection that is characterized by chronic suppurative and granulomatous lesion. It could be found in the oral cavity, lungs, colon, and genital area. In the oral cavity, it is commonly associated with infected root canals presented as persistent infections. This case reports demonstrate an atypical presentation of actinomycosis in the lower left mandibular canine/premolar area showing painless soft tissue lesion associated with bone sequestration. Nonsurgical curettage of the lesion followed by nonsurgical root canal treatment and retreatment to the offended teeth was determined as the treatment modality for this case.

Abstract Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a proliferative cutaneous manifestation encountered in the paediatric population. Adult cases are uncommon, but have been reported. Lesions are prevalent in the head and neck region, but rarely observed in the external auditory canal. We present the case of a 39-year-old female with a rapidly progressing obstructive soft tissue lesion of the external auditory canal. Surgical excision diagnosed the lesion as a rarely observed otological manifestation of juvenile xanthogranuloma. Surgical excision was curative with no locoregional recurrence. Otolaryngologists should consider juvenile xanthogranuloma as a differential for atypical soft tissue cutaneous lesions of the head and neck, including in divergent populations.
