This chapter focuses on the spectroscopy of the superconducting state. Various manifestations of macroscopic quantisation are described, including flux quantisation, the Josephson effect, vortices, and the Little–Parks effect. The Ginzburg–Landau theory and its microscopic derivation are presented. An interesting new direction, the search for the lossless ground current state, undergoes an intensive development. If the electronic density of states contains several peaks, it manifests as a multigap structure. Impurity scattering and, especially, the pair-breaking effect can drastically affect the spectrum and lead to gapless superconductivity. Pairing can be induced by the proximity effect (S–N contact). The isotope effect is the signature of the pairing mechanism, but it can be affected by Coulomb terms, magnetic impurities, and polaron formation. The study of fluctuations forms a large area of research. Fluctuations affect the behaviour of heat capacity and nuclear magnetic resonance relaxation, lead to peculiar paraconductivity, and so on.

Extending the usual Ginzburg–Landau theory for the random-field Ising model, the possibility of dimensional reduction is reconsidered. A renormalization group for the probability distribution of magnetic impurities is applied. New parameters corresponding to the extra ϕ4 coupling constants in the replica Hamiltonian are introduced. Although they do not affect the critical phenomena near the upper critical dimension, they can when dimensions are lowered.

Analysis and formalization of the monitoring and automatic control tasks of the MR for the movement and execution of various types of technological operations on inclined and vertical ferromagnetic surfaces are obtained. Generalized structure of mobile robotic complex is shown with main subsystems consideration. Critical analysis of the current state of the problem of development of universal structures of mobile robots (MRs) for the various types of technological operations execution and elaborations of computerized systems for monitoring and control of MR movement is done. In particular, wheeled, walked and crawler type MRs with pneumatic, vacuum-propeller, magnetic and magnetically operated clamping devices to grip with vertical and ceiling surfaces are reviewed. The constructive features of the crawler MR with magnetic clamping devices capable of moving along sloping ferromagnetic surfaces are considered. The basic technical parameters of the MR are shown for the further synthesis of computerized monitoring and automatic control systems. Formalization of the tasks of monitoring and control of the MR positioning at the processing of large area ferromagnetic surfaces is considered from the point of view of control theory.

We calculate the possible interaction between a superconductor and the static Earth’s gravitational fields, making use of the gravito-Maxwell formalism combined with the time-dependent Ginzburg–Landau theory. We try to estimate which are the most favorable conditions to enhance the effect, optimizing the superconductor parameters characterizing the chosen sample. We also give a qualitative comparison of the behavior of high–Tc and classical low–Tc superconductors with respect to the gravity/superfluid interplay.

A method which preserves the flux-quantization condition in all orders of perturbation theory is applied to the Ginzburg–Landau theory of type-II superconductors near the upper critical field. Expansions are obtained for the order parameter, the magnetic field, and the free energy; previous results are verified and extended to one higher order in Hc2 – Ha.
