This chapter presents glocalisation as a new global phenomenon in providing sustainable business solutions and preserving durability of the business environment in the tourism and hospitality industry. The chapter reveals that the ‘one strategy fits all' (universalism) deficiency of globalization brought glocalisation into the limelight as the best alternative strategic approach in sustaining global business relevance and promoting environmental sustainability in the 21st century business era. The strategic mix of globalization and localisation inherent in glocalisation promotes unprecedented economic growth and the development of developing and emerging economies through promotion of their cultural heritage and historical values. The chapter further discloses that prevalent of global warming giving rise to climate change in the tourism and hospitality industry which can be significantly controlled through strategic implementation of a glocal strategy. It is concluded that glocalisation serves a dual-purpose of providing sustainable business solutions and preserving the business environment.

The increasing worldwide incidence and prevalence of diabetes is placing substantial pressures on health care systems and economies. As a consequence individuals involved in the care of people with diabetes are looking at services currently being provided and examining ways in which care can be organized in the most cost-effective manner. Whilst the degree to which diabetes care is delivered differs from country to country, similar fundamental questions are being asked by those involved in the delivery of care, including: What are we currently providing? What do we need to provide? What are we able to provide? Although the answers to these questions are quite different not just between countries but often within specific localities within a country, the ultimate aim is the same: to provide the best possible care to as many people with diabetes as possible. The global diversity of diabetes health care need is enormous and while the solutions will be equally diverse, the approach to the development of a diabetes service will, for many organizations, be similar. The main focus of this chapter is based upon the model or the strategic approach developed in the UK, but many of the individual component parts are present in most health care settings.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide first-hand experiences of running a hotel business in Nigeria from the perspective of an entrepreneur. Design/methodology/approach An informal interview was carried out via email. Max Menkiti is an entrepreneur in the hospitality industry with extensive experience in bootstrap start-ups and operations in the UK and Nigeria. He is currently the Director of Millennium Apartments and Studios in Lagos. Before that, he developed and operated the @venue series of boutique hotels. Max has over 11 years experience in the hospitality industry in Nigeria. Findings The interview offers valuable insights for researchers in hospitality industry entrepreneurship so as to understand the rationale for business decisions. Originality/value The backdrop for this paper is the business environment in Nigeria. The transcript makes available an insider’s view of the number and form of issues that entrepreneurs face in emerging economies.

Abstract The aim of this research is to examine the effect of organisational culture on organisational performance in the context of the hospitality industry in the UK. Organisational culture was studied based on the Denison model. The study was conducted based on a quantitative research method and primary data was collected, with questionnaires, from 440 employees in the hospitality industry. The study reveals that organisational culture significantly affects organisational performance. Moreover, it is found that adaptability and mission are two key elements of organisational culture that significantly affect organisational performance. Furthermore, intrapreneurship fully mediates the relationship between adaptability and organisational performance. In addition, intrapreneurship fully mediates the relationship between mission and organisational performance. Hence, managers working in the hospitality industry are required to give considerable attention to adaptability and mission as two important elements of organisational culture in order to achieve intrapreneurship, and to ultimately improve the performance of an organisation.
