This paper argues the flexibility of focus group in Design research as a controlled-experiment setting to study Designerly Intuition at concept-stage decision making. This paper outlines the focus group design in terms of the types and structure considerations and the moderator factor. Finally, the focus-group result gathers dual-mode input from novice Industrial Designers (1) 'as a group' and the intuitive attributes as (2) ‘individual participants’. Therefore, the focus group design for the data collection setting is established through the research layout and space design that accommodates both modes of inquiry. Planning for underground spaces has become an effective way to use central areas in cities given the steady economic growth in China. The development of underground spaces in mountainous cities has satisfied the needs of the diversification of the city commercial areas and pedestrian movement. Safety issues exist because these underground spaces were originally used for civil air defense. This study was based on the underground commercial street in Chongqing, which is a typical mountainous city. Based on the results of combined fieldwork and survey, this paper summarized current safety issues, which include the not-fully-open exit, the imbalanced exit location, blocked evacuation routes, and the poor awareness of the potential safety issues. This paper proposed a framework of the safety factors for the underground space and synopsized prevention strategies that are specific to potential disasters in the underground environment. The framework comprises ensuring that the exits are fully open, the underground corridors are kept unblocked, the open space on the street is increased for disaster prevention, and equipment security is maintained and managed. At last, This paper summarized disaster prevention strategies, which include ensuring unimpeded exits, balancing the locations of the exits, avoiding blocks, increasing the disaster prevention square area in the underground space, maintaining and managing the security of the equipment.

Requirements of Daqing ecological and livable city construction were analyzed. The problems of space design in Daqing commercial street including energy-saving, spatial scales, transportation planning, and environmental facilities were analyzed. Space design measures including humane care, high efficiency and low energy-saving, regional expression and diversity space are proposed.

According to the current situation of the development and characteristics of Jincheng business district, this article selects the Yihou commercial pedestrian street as a preliminary study, does deeper research of Huanghua street and Xinshi pedestrian street, etc. Their operation forms including brand shopping, electronic products, snacks and entertainments, multiple formats of mixed malls. Selected representative blocks can reflect the development characteristics and present conditions of commercial blocks in the city of Jincheng more comprehensively, with a comprehensive analysis and research on Jincheng commercial blocks, summed up their advantages and disadvantages on spatial distribution, then plays a guiding role on commercial block development in small and medium-sized cities.

Urban underground space development and utilization of the city is an important step towards sustainable development. Gaining enough, fresh air with appropriate temperature and humidity and sufficient sunshine, reducing energy consumption and increasing environment quality are basic requirements for healthy underground space design. The paper puts forward building energy conservation design responses of urban underground space from natural lighting, ventilation and renewable energy utilization three aspects to provide the beneficial reference to sustainable development design of the urban public underground space.
