Iran has pursued nuclear weapons for over four decades. The basic reasons for this quest have remained unchanged in the face of the most crippling sanctions. Almost three and a half years after Trump’s withdrawal from the Iran Nuclear Pact (JCPOA), Tehran officially announced that it has enriched uranium up to 60%, very close to the 90% suitable for nuclear weapons. Iran is highly likely to be the world’s next nuclear state. A nuclear-armed Iran will be emboldened to accelerate its aggressive activities in the region and act against its neighbors with little fear of retribution. Moreover, Iran’s network of proxies would adopt a more confrontational approach towards Israel. Besides, Iran’s politics of threat can have serious socioeconomic consequences for Israel.Iran’s possession of nuclear weapons could arguably set off a cascade effect, encouraging other major regional powers to move in the same direction. The West, particularly the United States, would seek to offset this risk by providing a “defenceumbrella”. HhhhjkhggHowever, some might be reluctant to be openly protected by the United Statesor would find the umbrella questionable and choose nuclear option for both security concerns and prestige.

The article is devoted to theoretical aspects of diffusion of innovations, as the conditions of logistics of the agro industrial complex of Ukraine. The concept of innovation-economic niche as a separate system with the potential of making innovations, the development of which creates competitive advantages, is formulated. New types of diffusion are classified on the basis of decision-making mechanisms by innovators. The diffusion models are considered, the descriptions of specific features of the behaviour of the dissemination of innovations in the reaction-diffusion structure are studied and made taking into account the system-regulatory factors. The principle of informational conditionality of economic phenomena as the basis of distribution of diffusion is formulated. The existence of a cascade effect in the diffusion of basic innovations has been determined; the necessity of the accompanying innovations has been substantiated. The causal relationship between the influence of system-regulatory factors on diffusion, the emergence of a cascade effect, the formation of clusters of innovations and the general influence on the Kondratiev cycles have been investigated.

Cyanobacterial blooms in lakes of low nutrient status are recent ecological surprises. Culling of planktivorous fish may help suppress phytoplankton blooms via a trophic cascade effect. To test this hypothesis, we conducted a 90-day experiment adjacent to a shallow oligomesotrophic lake increasingly beset by midsummer cyanobacterial blooms in the presence of high abundances of minnows and sparse herbivorous zooplankton. The single-factor (± three spottail shiners, Notropis hudsonius) experimental design was replicated 10 times for a total of twenty 1200 L capacity mesocosms. Contrary to the trophic cascade hypothesis, minnow removal decreased the abundance of bosminids capable of grazing cyanobacteria. Nevertheless, removal of the minnows significantly both suppressed phytoplankton biomass and offset the development of cyanobacteria, such as Gloeotrichia echinulata. Lower concentrations of phosphorus and nitrogen in the fishless relative to stocked mesocosms best explained these differences in the phytoplankton community. Our findings highlight how fisheries management practices that enhance minnow populations in lakes of low productivity may inadvertently contribute to cyanobacterial blooms through increased nutrient cycling.

The establishment of links between SAGASCO Resources Limited (SAGASCO) and secondary schools in the city and country regions of South Australia has provided benefits to both the petroleum industry and to the students and teachers at the schools. Links between Penola High School in the southeast of South Australia and Hamilton Secondary School in Adelaide began in 1993 and have continued to the present. Feedback from the schools has been positive and significant. The two schools have overwhelmingly endorsed the links and have benefited both in curriculum development and in gaining a glimpse of industry operations that is not found in textbooks. The benefits from the link process has also revealed a cascade effect in which students and teachers have utilised information on the petroleum industry and incorporated it into reports, publications and texts that have been further used by the schools and the community, thus enhancing the original link process. Links with schools require stronger support by the petroleum industry to meet the needs of schools and to provide balance to the often negative profile of our industry in the community both in the immediate and longer term.
