Urbanization, the corresponding road traffic, and increasing e-grocery markets require efficient and at the same time eco-friendly transport solutions. In contrast to traditional food procurement at local grocery stores, e-grocery, i.e., online ordered goods, are transported directly to end customers. We develop and discuss an optimization approach to assist the planning of e-grocery deliveries in smart cities introducing a new last mile concept for the urban food supply chain. To supply city dwellers with their ordered products, a network of refrigerated grocery lockers is optimized to temporarily store the corresponding goods within urban areas. Customers either collect their orders by themselves or the products are delivered with electric cargo bicycles (ECBs). We propose a multi-echelon optimization model that minimizes the overall costs while consecutively determining optimal grocery locker locations, van routes from a depot to opened lockers, and ECB routes from lockers to customers. With our approach, we present an advanced concept for grocery deliveries in urban areas to shorten last mile distances, enhancing sustainable transportation by avoiding road traffic and emissions. Therefore, the concept is described as a smart transport system.

Internet use in Banyumas Regency is now increasingly diverse according to the demands of the needs. The development of communication technology raises various aspects that also develop. For example, the use of the internet for a traffic light control system so that it can be adjusted according to the settings and can be monitored in real time. In the development of communication technology, the term Internet of Things (IoT) emerged as the concept of extending the benefits of internet communication systems to give impulses to other systems. In other words, IoT is used as a communication for remote control and monitoring by utilizing an internet connection. The Internet of Things in the era is now being developed to create an intelligent system for the purposes of controlling various public needs until the concept of the smart city emerges. Basically, smart cities utilize internet connections for many purposes such as controlling CCTV, traffic lights, controlling arm robots in the industry and storing data in hospitals. If the system is carried out directly from the device to the central server, there will be a very long queue of data while the system created requires speed and accuracy of time so that a system is needed that allows sufficient data control and processing to be carried out on network edge users. Then fog Computing is used with the hope that the smart city system can work with small latency values ​​so that the system is more real-time in sending or receiving data.

Intelligent traffic management is an important issue for smart cities. City councils try to implement the newest techniques and performant technologies in order to avoid traffic congestion, to optimize the use of traffic lights, to efficiently use car parking, etc. To find the best solution to this problem, Birmingham City Council decided to allow open-source predictive traffic forecasting by making the real-time datasets available. This paper proposes a multi-agent system (MAS) approach for intelligent urban traffic management in Birmingham using forecasting and classification techniques. The designed agents have the following tasks: forecast the occupancy rates for traffic flow, road junctions and car parking; classify the faults; control and monitor the entire process. The experimental results show that k-nearest neighbor forecasts with high accuracy rates for the traffic data and decision trees build the most accurate model for classifying the faults for their detection and repair in the shortest possible time. The whole learning process is coordinated by a monitoring agent in order to automate Birmingham city’s traffic management.

This paper proposes an internet of things (IoT) based intelligent traffic management system that can aid problematic traffic situations in smart cities by classifying congestions via sensory data, and then controlling traffic lights and creating alternate routes for incoming vehicles to the congested zones in order to relieve or avoid congestions completely. The proposed intelligent traffic management system consists of different subsystems such as Test Operation, Supervisory, Traffic Light, and Pathfinder subsystems. The system is represented by flowcharts with their explanations and its operation with some defined scenarios is validated with the CupCarbon simulation environment.


Smart cities are one of the upcoming trends in the world. These smart cities include smart traffic light system, smart cars, smart homes, smart traffic monitoring system. As environmental pollution has become the major cause of various problems like climatic changes, improper irrigation methods, depletion of the ozone layer etc. “Automated Pollution Detection System using IoT and AWS Cloud” provides an architecture for integrating IoT and Cloud Computing and an application which is used to detect air pollution by fitting in arduino devices at public places like traffic lights, industrial areas, construction areas etc., and transferring the data using GSM modem to a cloud database server AWS RDS. The cloud server is linked with the EC2 instance (Ubuntu server) in order to publish the web application using EC2. Web Application which is created using Word press and a Mobile application using Android Studio. The Web application shows the value of pollutant at a particular place along with the map facility by using GPS in the Arduino. This is also linked to a mobile application which sends a push notification service (SNS) to our mobile application

Every country's vehicular traffic is increasing, growing, and there is terrible traffic congestion at intersections. In the current case, most traffic lights have a fixed light sequence, so green light sequence is to determine with-out taking priority vehicles into account. As a result, priority crews such as police cars, ambulances, fire engines are still unable to perform, get stuck in traffic and come in late, which can result in the loss of valuable property and life, which does happen on occasion. The green light sequence is evaluated given the current state of traffic, without taking into account the existence of emergency vehicles. Our aim to this paper is to present a mechanism for scheduling emergency vehicles. It is provided to important such as access control protocol to convey emergency vehicle information to the Traffic Management Center (TMC) with time delay and to all alerts while using GPS techniques for acquiring emergency vehicle information. Only then is the emergency vehicle quickly dispatched, and the destination is reached on time. It would be helpful in the future for the prominence of casual vehicles.
