This study integrates sensors, signal capture equipment, industrial computers and machinery health check-up software to develop an On-line Performance Assessment and Fault Diagnosis of Mechanical System, helping engineers predict mechanical conditions. Physical quantities captured by the sensors is utilized to process physical signals, and the Wavelet Packet Energy method is used for the feature extraction of non-stationary signals in coordination with the Principal Component Analysis for feature selection. This study establishes On-line Performance Assessment and Fault Diagnosis of Mechanical System based on Discriminant Analysis which is able to immediately determine the mechanical performance. When abnormal mechanical conditions occur, Bayesian Network will be activated to construct error diagnostic model and determine possible causes of error or malfunction of the machinery. Finally, the system is applied to the fan motor, high-speed spindle motor and AC motor of the machine tool. Experimental results show that the theory can effectively diagnose mechanical performance remarkable with an accuracy rate of 92.50% or higher.

The rotary expanding is one of the best pipe rolling processes for tube trailer cylinders. The thesis briefly introduced the manufacturing technology features and key equipment of rotary expanding mill of Tianjin Pipe Corporation. The indexes of technical requirements were put forward according to relative cylinder standards and test results were given by a third party. Material performance assessment was conducted by China Standardization Committee on Boilers and Pressure Vessels. The results show that the technical indexes of cylinder pipe including chemical composition, nonmetallic inclusion grade, grain size, microstructure feature, surface quality, mechanical performance and bending test can meet the requirements with an international advanced level.

Masonry arch aqueducts, as important hydraulic structures, constitute an meaningful part of old irrigation infrastructures in China. The constituent materials deteriorate over time, caused by weathering processes and the defect development, influences the mechanical performance of these structures. The paper presents a comprehensive approach to evaluate the structural safety of an old masonry aqueduct with uncertain mechanical parameters and unknown geometric dimensions. This approach employed the 3D terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) to measure the geometric dimensions, and the discrete element analysis (DEM) to analyze the current operational behaviour state of the masonry aqueduct. As a case study, the Zhaimen masonry arch aqueduct in the famous Red Flag Canal, operating for more than 50 years, was investigated in this study. Obvious defects, such as the continuous loss and falling of mortar and the arch ring detaching, appeared in this old aqueduct. The TLS measurement information was used to construct a DEM model. Then this numerical model was applied to analyze the current performance of the exiting masonry arch aqueduct. The results show that the upper structure and the supporting structure can still be stable assuming that the mortar with no bond strength. In other words, the deterioration of the mortar, due to natural weathering and Calcium ion dissolution caused by natural environment and leakage, would not have a fatal impact on the structural safety. The proposed structural diagnosis and performance assessment approach can provide a reference to safety evaluation for similar masonry arch aqueducts.
