A method for measuring the self-capacitance, inductance, loss resistance, and Q-factor of inductors as part of an LC low-pass filter at its operating frequency is presented. An example of the practical application of this method for measuring the equivalent pa-rameters of inductors and capacitors as part of a fifth-order Cauer low-pass filter using network analyzer.

In this paper, a transimpedance amplifier (TIA) based on floating active inductors (FAI) is presented. Compared with conventional TIAs, the proposed TIA has the advantages of a wider bandwidth, lower power dissipation, and smaller chip area. The schematics and characteristics of the FAI circuit are explained. Moreover, the proposed TIA employs the combination of capacitive degeneration, the broadband matching network, and the regulated cascode input stage to enhance the bandwidth and gain. This turns the TIA design into a fifth-order low pass filter with Butterworth response. The TIA is implemented using 0.18 μ m Rohm CMOS technology and consumes only 10.7 mW with a supply voltage of 1.8 V. When used with a 150 fF photodiode capacitance, it exhibits the following characteristics: gain of 41 dB Ω and −3 dB frequency of 10 GHz. This TIA occupies an area of 180 μ m × 118 μ m.

Abstract This paper presents novel solution of a fractional-order low-pass filter (FLPF). The proposed filter operates in the current mode and it is designed using third-order inverse follow-the-leader feedback topology and operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs), adjustable current amplifiers (ACAs), auxiliary multiple-output current follower (MO-CF) as simple active elements. The filter offers the beneficial ability of the electronic control of its order and also the pole frequency thanks to electronically controlled internal parameters of OTAs and ACAs. As an example, five particular values of fractional order of the FLPF were chosen and parameters of the filter were calculated. Similarly, also electronic control of the pole frequency of the filter was studied. The design correctness and proper function of the filter are supported by simulations with CMOS models and also by experimental laboratory measurements. Comparison of the simulation results of the proposed filter for two different approximations of the parameter sα is also included.

A new tunable CMOS FDNR circuit is proposed. The circuit is based on the transcapacitive gyrator approach with both transcapacitive stages realized by MOS transistors configuration. This FDNR element lends itself well to the design of low-pass ladder filters and its use will result in a more efficient integrated circuit implementation than filters that simulate floating inductors utilizing resistive gyrators. The applications of FDNR to realize a current-mode fifth-order elliptic filter and current mode sixth-order elliptic band-pass filter are given. The proposed FDNR is simulated using CMOS TSMC 0.35 μm technology. Simulation results are given to confirm the theoretical analysis.
