This research work deals with mathematical modeling in complex biological systems in which several types of individuals coexist in various populations. Migratory phenomena among the populations are allowed. We propose a class of mathematical models to describe the demographic dynamics of these type of complex systems. The probability model is defined through a sequence of random matrices in which rows and columns represent the various populations and the several types of individuals, respectively. We prove that this stochastic sequence can be studied under the general setting provided by the multitype branching process theory. Probabilistic properties and limiting results are then established. As application, we present an illustrative example about the population dynamics of biological systems formed by long-lived raptor colonies.

Numbers of ringed seals hauled out on the ice began to increase in early June. Numbers on the ice were highest from 0900 to 1500 hours Central Standard Time and lowest (average 40–50% of peak) in early morning. Seals commonly remained on the ice for several hours, and occasionally (during calm weather) for > 48 h. Numbers on the ice were reduced on windy days and possibly also on unusually warm, bright and calm days. Seals tended to face away from the wind (particularly with high wind speed) and oriented broadside to the sun. Seals usually occurred singly (60–70% of all groups) at their holes.Numbers of seals hauled out at Freemans Cove remained relatively constant during June (maximum density 4.86/km2), whereas at Aston Bay numbers increased dramatically to a maximum density of 10.44/km2 in late June. The increase was thought to be due to an influx of seals abandoning unstable ice. The density of seal holes at Freemans Cove (5.92/km2) was much higher than at Aston Bay (2.73/km2). The ratio of holes to the maximum numbers of seals (1.12:1) at Freemans Cove represents a first estimate of this relationship in an apparently stable population.

The Southeastern Spanish Region of Guadix is a mainly agrarian territory located in the Granada province, which is in demographic decline and has low economic dynamism. Reversing such a difficult socioeconomic situation requires the implementation of policies capable of promoting demographic revitalization and fruitfully exploiting potential for sustainable development in the zone. Such policies must be based on an appropriate diagnosis of the existing problems. In order to provide elements to make said diagnosis, this research combines the use of quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitatively, the evolution of demographic dynamics in the region have been analyzed, as well as its levels of occupation, education, its economic situation, or its environmental conditions. In this regard, correlation analysis, factorial analysis, and clustering have been completed with the aim of revealing internal territorial imbalances. A series of qualitative interviews with key actors has also been conducted. Finally, given the little success of development programs applied to date, among other things, it is concluded that a greater involvement of local actors in said programs is needed. Thus, these actors have to be involved in development policies, which in turn must take into account the socioeconomic, cultural, environmental, and geological resources available in the area.

Demographic crisis remains one of the main challenges to socio-economic development of Russia. The COVID–19 pandemic has aggravated preconditions for a possible recovery from depopulation. The present article substantiates the need to develop and approve the RF social doctrine upon completion of national projects in 2018–2024. The authors suggest their own approach to overcoming the socio-demographic crisis with regard to the long-term demographic dynamics in Russia. Various scenarios of the “post-coronavirus” future of both specific countries and the world as a whole are proposed.
