So far, the relation between financial agglomeration and export trade is complex and there are few related studies. However, research on this topic will be of great value to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (the Greater Bay Area). This paper aims to use the mediation model to analyze the role of technological innovation as an mediator variable between financial agglomeration and export trade. Based on the relevant data of the Greater Bay Area from 2009 to 2018, regression analysis was performed using the three equations of the mediation model. The mediator variable was then replaced to conduct a robustness test, and it was found that there is indeed an mediation effect; technological innovation acts as an mediator variable between financial agglomeration and export trade. Therefore, it can be concluded that the financial agglomeration in the Greater Bay Area can effectively promote technological innovation, while technological innovation will inhibit exports to a certain extent.

There is an increasing interest in investigating antecedents of employee engagement at workplace. The present article examines the role of psychological empowerment as an antecedent of employee engagement in organizations and simultaneously explored the mediating role of constructive deviance. Data was collected from 233 Indian IT sector employees. A mediation effect was documented through multiple regression analysis suggested by Barron and Kenny. Findings suggest that both psychological empowerment and constructive deviance positively affect employee engagement while constructive deviance acts as significant mediator between them. Theoretical and practical implications of the findings are discussed.

PurposeThis article looks at the differences and similarities between globalization and the role of China on globalization, in particular for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China (HKSAR).Design/methodology/approachThis article is based on research, reading, and interviews on globalization.FindingsChina is promoting the new globalization of the century called Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) which is a unique way to boost again the economy of China.Originality/valueStudies of the New Maritime and Land Silk Road of China are rare; in particular, the role of the HKSAR is ignored. Macau also plays a role because it was the first point of globalization in the seventeenth century. China is really a global country, and the Chinese are numerous in all continents. Chinese Internet role is also mentioned. Globalization is a key concept not only for China and Asia but also for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Africa, and countries in Latin America such as Bolivia and Venezuela. This article looks at the differences and similarities between globalization and the role of China on globalization. The HKSAR and the Greater Bay Area are part of the same country. China is developing the new globalization of the century called, in 2017, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The current definition of Chinese globalization includes land and maritime Silk Road, now the BRI.

Abstract Disasters caused by extreme precipitation under global warming are anticipated to have a strong negative impact on urban construction and social security. In this study, daily grid precipitation datasets of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) for the period 1961–2018 were extracted to explore the temporal and spatial characteristics of extreme precipitation by using regression analysis, moving average and kriging interpolation. The frequency and intensity indices showed an increasing trend, whereas a decreasing trend was found for the persistence indices, which indicates that GBA tends to slowly become wetter. The mean values of extreme precipitation indices (EPIs) in GBA generally increased from west to east and from north to south. Except for the indices of consecutive wet days and consecutive dry days, other EPIs showed an upward trend in most regions, especially in coastal cities where floods are more likely to occur. Principal component analysis and regression analysis showed that the correlations between the EPIs mostly passed the 0.05 significance test, which suggests that they had a good indicator of extreme precipitation in GBA. This study provides a theoretical basis for extreme precipitation disaster prevention and control within the urban agglomerations of the GBA.

Building the Greater Bay Area city cluster is a crucial national development strategy for China. As a vital hub of the Belt and Road Initiative, the Greater Bay Area cannot cultivate into an “international first-class bay area and world-class city cluster” without technological innovation and rapid economic progress, and technological innovation and economic development cannot be attained without the training of high-end talents through international education. Thus, the development of an international education demonstration zone is essential in the formation and development of the Greater Bay Area and making it a highland for education and talent, as well as giving full play to the social function of education. As the core of the accumulation of educational resources in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, the current situation, future opportunities, and development path of international education development in the Greater Bay Area while building a world-class international education center have become the starting point of this study.

The article explores the role of ‘spirituality’ in green consumer behaviour. It proposes an original framework in order to explore the influence of spirituality on green purchasing intentions (GPI) of consumers through the mediating role of perceived consumer effectiveness (PCE). The data collected from Indian consumers were analyzed with the help of the mediation model proposed by Hayes (2008). By employing the consumer’s spirituality scale developed by Narang (2013) and the PCE scale of Kim and Choi (2005), the study found that the spiritual orientation of consumers significantly affects their GPI. The conclusions drawn from the study can be used by marketers to stimulate GPI by focusing on the role of spirituality among consumers. Since green has become a distinct way of positioning a product or a company, firms can employ environmental concerns and consciousness of consumers to magnetize new markets, customers and retain existing green consumers.
