Certain applications have recently appeared in industry where a traditional bar code printed on a label will not survive because the item to be tracked has to be exposed to harsh environments. Laser direct-part marking is a manufacturing process used to create permanent marks on a substrate that could help to alleviate this problem. In this research, a 532 nm Nd:YAG laser was utilized to produce Data Matrix symbols onto carbon steel substrates. The quality of the laser marked Data Matrix symbol was then evaluated according to the ISO/IEC 16022 bar code technology specification for Data Matrix. Several experiments were conducted to explore the effects that different parameters have on the quality of the laser direct-part marked symbols. Parameters such as type of carbon steel, percent of laser tool path overlap, profile speed, average power, and frequency were found to have significant effects on the quality of the Data Matrix symbols produced with the laser. The analysis of the results indicated that contrast and print growth were the critical ISO/IEC 16022 standard performance measures that limited the laser marked Data Matrix symbols from achieving a higher final grade.

The influences of laser processing parameters on the symbol contrast and surface roughness of Data Matrix barcodes were studied by single factor experiments using a Q-switched lamp pumped Nd:YAG laser. The orthogonal experiments were carried out to further study the relationship between laser parameters and surface roughness. Multivariate nonlinear regression analyses were performed based on the orthogonal experimental results and a mathematical relationship between parameters and surface roughness was established. The results show that the change trend of surface roughness is similar to symbol contrast with the increase of laser parameters. Both the average power and two different overlaps are important factors affecting the surface roughness and symbol contrast. But the current intensity has an insignificant impact on the surface roughness. The developed regression model can be used to predict the roughness of Data Matrix barcodes. This study can improve industrial application of laser direct part marking technology on titanium alloy substrates.

Laser direct-part marking is finding increasing use in the tracking of products as they pass through a manufacturing process. But too high heat input of the laser may cause deformation of the product beyond the limit of the drawing. In order to investigate the effect of laser marked Data Matrix symbol on titanium alloy, a Q-switched lamp pumped Nd:YAG laser was used in this research. Two Data Matrix symbols using 16A and 28A of electric current were marked respectively in the center of two titanium alloy sheets with 50mm length and 50mm width and 2mm thickness. To analyze the quality of the laser marking, environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) and X-ray diffractometer (XRD) were used. Experimental results showed the HAN’S Q-switched lamp pumped Nd:YAG laser marking system did not cause damage to the titanium alloy.

The purpose of this investigation is to test the laser cladding of different alloy powders onto 1045 medium-carbon steel substrates for parts remanufacturing. The types of alloy powder, laser output powers, and scanning speeds are selected as influencing factors to conduct laser cladding experiments with orthogonal design on the carbon steel 1045 substrate. Bonding shear strength and microhardness of the cladding layer and the substrate are tested and analyzed. The high resolution scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy are also used to analyze cladding layers, microstructures, and elements. The experimental results show that a good metallurgical bond is formed between the cladding layer and the substrate without porous cracks and other defects. Shear stress intensity of nickel-based powder is two to three times higher than that of substrate material, while iron-based powder is five times higher than the substrate material. The type of the powder is the most significant factor and laser power is the least. The hardness of outer cladding layer is higher than that of bonding section and inner section. In the heat-affected zone, hardness is higher than that of the substrate material.

The article dealt with the assessment of the quality of hydraulic oil and determination of the mode of wear of the friction surfaces of Baljer & Zembrod manipulating lines through the information traces in the oils by applying tribotechnical diagnostics. We presented the assessment of the level of degradation of the oils. In addition, we presented the mode of wear of the friction surfaces washed in oil through evaluation of the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the particles found in the oil. In detail, we focused on the application of suitable multivariate statistical methods on the data matrix. The article also presents predictive models that can sort oils into groups based on the assessment of quality of the oil and the state of the friction couples. The models can be used in research and in solving practical tasks in tribotechnical diagnostics of hydraulic fluids in woodworking equipment. Our results showed that the manipulation lines were greatly thermically stressed due to inadequate oil and machine maintenance. By correlative integration of all methods used, we could determine the real mode of the wear of the tribologic nodes of the machine. The experiment enabled the early detection of an undesirable process in the tribological node and implementation of corrective measures before the machine would break down.

The article evaluated the control of Stencil in the subprocess of Printing of the SMD line of a company located in the Industrial Pole of Manaus (PIM), to provide subsidies to develop a computerized system. With computerization, the focus of employees will be directed to the activities of production and quality of manufactured products, also, the collection of process data, done in real-time, will allow managers to better monitor and take actions in the process. To this end, a case study, bibliographic research of articles, dissertations, and theses involving the theme, and documentary research (forms, records, etc.) with the sectors involved were used. The descriptive statistics method was applied, quality tools were used, aimed at identifying and solving problems such as PDCA, Pareto, Ishikawa Diagram, flow chart, and 5W2H. A study of the activities related to the control of the Stencil was carried out, of the documentation used in the process, as well as of the factors and causes related to the effective Stencil control. Among the results, 24 causes affect the performance of the Stencil control, concluding that the main failures were human, due to the prioritization of production goals by the employees, leaving the other activities in the background, which is why the 24 guidelines proposed for the computerization of this process become relevant, some of which are: defining means to identify each Stencil using a bar code or QR code; do not allow the use of the Stencil if one of the activities unfinished in the process; stop production when an activity is not performed; digitize the documents used in this process; create an automatic notification to those responsible, when an action is necessary, etc.
