A LADD actuator is a device capable of converting rotational motion to translational motion and has potential for use in manipulators, robotics, and prosthetics. Two low order lumped parameter dynamic models of a concentric LADD actuator have been formulated and experimentally verified. The sixth order model includes elasticity effects while the second order model does not. Both of these models are presented in bond graph terminology in order to ease their use in overall system models.

This paper deals with the state of charge (SoC) estimation of a lithium-ion battery pack (LiBP) connected by some cells in series and parallel. The voltage noise, noise and current bias of current through the LiBP are taken into account in the SoC estimation problem. In order to describe the cell dynamic more accurately, especially for practical applications with charge and discharge amplitude varying suddenly, in this paper we use the second dynamic order model of the cell to estimate the SoC of the LiBP. By applying the sigma point Kalman filter (SPKF), the average SoC of the pack and bias current of current measurement are estimated by first estimator; the second estimator estimates the SoC differences of the cell modules from average SoC of the pack. The SoC of the cell modules are the sum of average SoCs of the pack and the SoC differences. By only using two estimators, the calculation complexity for SoC estimation is more reduced; this is very useful for the LiBP, which has the number of cells connected in a large series. This method was applied for the pack of SAMSUNG ICR18650-22P connected by seven cell modules; the cell modules were connected by nine cells in parallel; the LiBP was charged and discharged with amplitude varying suddenly. The estimated SoC of seven cell modules is smaller than 2% for a temperature operating range typically −5 °C to 45 °C. The comparison of the accuracy of SoC estimation based on the first and the second order dynamic models is made; the result shows that the SoC estimation used the second order dynamic model is more exact.

In this paper, we propose a new reduced-dynamic (RD) method by introducing the second-order time-difference position (STP) as additional pseudo-observations (named the RD_STP method) for the precise orbit determination (POD) of low Earth orbiters (LEOs) from GPS observations. Theoretical and numerical analyses show that the accuracies of integrating the STPs of LEOs at 30 s intervals are better than 0.01 m when the forces (<10−5 ms−2) acting on the LEOs are ignored. Therefore, only using the Earth’s gravity model is good enough for the proposed RD_STP method. All unmodeled dynamic models (e.g., luni-solar gravitation, tide forces) are treated as the error sources of the STP pseudo-observation. In addition, there are no pseudo-stochastic orbit parameters to be estimated in the RD_STP method. Finally, we use the RD_STP method to process 15 days of GPS data from the GOCE mission. The results show that the accuracy of the RD_STP solution is more accurate and smoother than the kinematic solution in nearly polar and equatorial regions, and consistent with the RD solution. The 3D RMS of the differences between the RD_STP and RD solutions is 1.93 cm for 1 s sampling. This indicates that the proposed method has a performance comparable to the RD method, and could be an alternative for the POD of LEOs.

A lumped-parameter dynamic model for gear train set in wind turbine is proposed to investigate the dynamics of the speed-increasing gear box. The proposed model is developed in a universal Cartesian coordinate, which includes transversal and torsional deflections of each component, time-varying mesh stiffness, gear profile errors and external excitations. By solving the dynamic model, a modal analysis is performed. The results indicate that the modal properties of the multi-stage gear train in wind turbine are similar to those of a single-stage planetary gear set. A harmonic balance method (HBM) is used to obtain the dynamic responses of the gearing system. The responses give insight into the impact of excitations on the vibrations.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to achieve the optimal system design of a four-wheel mobile robot on transmission line maintenance, as the authors know transmission line mobile robot is a kind of special robot which runs on high-voltage cable to replace or assist manual power maintenance operation. In the process of live working, the manipulator, working end effector and the working environment are located in the narrow space and with heterogeneous shapes, the robot collision-free obstacle avoidance movement is the premise to complete the operation task. In the simultaneous operation, the mechanical properties between the manipulator effector and the operation object are the key to improve the operation reliability. These put forward higher requirements for the mechanical configuration and dynamic characteristics of the robot, and this is the purpose of the manuscript. Design/methodology/approach Based on the above, aiming at the task of tightening the tension clamp for the four-split transmission lines, the paper proposed a four-wheel mobile robot mechanism configuration and its terminal tool which can adapt to the walking and operation on multi-split transmission lines. In the study, the dynamic models of the rigid robot and flexible transmission line are established, respectively, and the dynamic model of rigid-flexible coupling system is established on this basis, the working space and dynamic characteristics of the robot have been simulated in ADAMS and MATLAB. Findings The research results show that the mechanical configuration of this robot can complete the tightening operation of the four-split tension clamp bolts and the motion of robot each joint meets the requirements of driving torque in the operation process, which avoids the operation failure of the robot system caused by the insufficient or excessive driving force of the robot joint torque. Originality/value Finally, the engineering practicability of the mechanical configuration and dynamic model proposed in the paper has been verified by the physical prototype. The originality value of the research is that it has double important theoretical significance and practical application value for the optimization of mechanical structure parameters and electrical control parameters of transmission line mobile robots.

The contact process of a space docking device needs verification before launching. The verification cannot only rely on the software simulation since the contact dynamic models are not accurate enough yet, especially when the geometric shape of the device is complex. Hardware-in-the-loop simulation is a choice to perform the ground test, where the contact dynamic model is replaced by a real device and the real contact occurs. However, the Hardware-in-the-loop simulation suffers from energy increase and instability since time delay is unavoidable. The existing delay compensation methods are mainly focused on a uniaxial or three-dimensional contact. In this paper, a force-based delay compensation method is proposed for the hardware-in-the-loop simulation of a six degree-of-freedom space contact. A six degree-of-freedom dynamic model of the spacecraft motion is derived, and a six degree-of-freedom delay compensation method is proposed. The delay is divided into track delay and measurement delay, which are compensated individually. Experiment results show that the proposed delay compensation method is effective for the six degree-of-freedom space contact.

AbstractThis work describes design and implementation of a navigation and obstacle avoidance controller using fuzzy logic for four-wheel mobile robot. The main contribution of this paper can be summarized in the fact that single fuzzy logic controller can be used for navigation as well as obstacle avoidance (static, dynamic and both) for dynamic model of four-wheel mobile robot. The bond graph is used to develop the dynamic model of mobile robot and then it is converted into SIMULINK block by using ‘S-function’ directly from SYMBOLS Shakti bond graph software library. The four-wheel mobile robot used in this work is equipped with DC motors, three ultrasonic sensors to measure the distance from the obstacles and optical encoders to provide the current position and speed. The three input membership functions (distance from target, angle and distance from obstacles) and two output membership functions (left wheel voltage and right wheel voltage) are considered in fuzzy logic controller. One hundred and sixty-two sets of rules are considered for motion control of the mobile robot. The different case studies are considered and are simulated using MATLAB-SIMULINK software platform to evaluate the performance of the controller. Simulation results show the performances of the navigation and obstacle avoidance fuzzy controller in terms of minimum travelled path for various cases.
