Dynamic Effect of Bearing Wear on Rotor-Bearing System Response

A rotor-bearing system is simulated in this study to investigate the effect of worn journal bearings on the system response and to specify the eventual development of additional frequency components. The well-known symmetric Dufrane bearing wear model is used here. The main target here is the investigation of the wear influence on the system response. An experimental layout was constructed for the needs of the current research, including an artificially worn bearing. It was observed that sub- and superharmonics are revealed in the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) of the rotor-bearing system response for worn bearings.

Early detection of arrhythmia and effective treatment can prevent deaths caused by cardiovascular disease (CVD). In clinical practice, the diagnosis is made by checking the electrocardiogram (ECG) beat-by-beat, but this is usually time-consuming and laborious. In the paper, we propose an automatic ECG classification method based on Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). CWT is used to decompose ECG signals to obtain different time-frequency components, and CNN is used to extract features from the 2D-scalogram composed of the above time-frequency components. Considering the surrounding R peak interval (also called RR interval) is also useful for the diagnosis of arrhythmia, four RR interval features are extracted and combined with the CNN features to input into a fully connected layer for ECG classification. By testing in the MIT-BIH arrhythmia database, our method achieves an overall performance of 70.75%, 67.47%, 68.76%, and 98.74% for positive predictive value, sensitivity, F1-score, and accuracy, respectively. Compared with existing methods, the overall F1-score of our method is increased by 4.75~16.85%. Because our method is simple and highly accurate, it can potentially be used as a clinical auxiliary diagnostic tool.

To determine the bifurcation types in a rotor-bearing system, it is required to find higher order derivatives of the bearing forces with respect to journal velocity and position. As closed-form expressions for journal bearing force are not generally available, Hopf bifurcation studies of rotor-bearing systems have been limited to simple geometries and cavitation models. To solve this problem, an alternative nonlinear coefficient-based method for representing the bearing force is presented in this study. A flexible rotor-bearing system is presented for which bearing force is modeled with linear and nonlinear dynamic coefficients. The proposed nonlinear coefficient-based model was found to be successful in predicting the bifurcation types of the system as well as predicting the system dynamics and trajectories at spin speeds below and above the threshold speed of instability.

The dynamic model of the three-span rotor-bearing system with rub-impact fault was set up. The influence to nonlinear dynamics behaviors of the rotor-bearing system that induced by rub-impact of one disc, two discs and three discs were numerically studied. The main influence of the rotor system response by the rub-impact faults are in the supercritical rotate speed. There are mutations of amplitudes in the responses of second and third spans in supercritical rotate speed when rub-impact with one disc, and there are chaotic windows in the response of first span, and jumping changes in second and third spans when rub-impact with two or three discs.

The vibration response of a rotor bearing system is extremely important in industries and is challenged by their highly non-linear and complex properties. This paper focuses on performance prediction using response surface method (RSM), which is essential to the design of high performance rotor bearing system. Response surface method is utilized to analysis the effects of design and operating parameters on the vibration response of a rotor-bearing system. A test rig of high speed rotor supported on rolling bearings is used. Vibration response of the healthy ball bearing and ball bearings with various faults are obtained and analyzed. Distributed defects are considered as surface waviness of the bearing components. Effects of internal radial clearance and surface waviness of the bearing components and their interaction are analyzed using design of experiment (DOE) and RSM.

Abstract The rotordynamic analysis of a high speed multistage centrifugal compressor supported on radial magnetic bearings, which has been running successfully in the field for 9000 hours to date, is presented. Iterations required to achieve an acceptable rotor configuration using magnetic bearings are discussed. The results of the rotor-bearing system on standard fluid film five shoe tilting pad journal bearings are compared to the dynamics of the rotor on magnetic bearings. Correlation of the observed peak responses with those predicted on magnetic bearings is presented. The actual orbit plots and frequency plots during the coastdown of the rotor-bearing system on auxiliary ball bearings are discussed.

AbstractTo examine the tracking phenomenon that was one of the main causes of fire breaking, fundamental experiments were carried out. To one of the electrodes AC high voltage was applied. The following samples: the mesh plate, the flat ribbon cable and the ignition plug were prepared as the electrode. Current, voltage waveforms of micro discharge and the sound signal detected by the condenser microphone were stored in the Hi-coder memory. In this paper, Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) was applied to determine the acoustic sound of the micro discharge and to study its dominant frequency components. Additionally, the energy distribution of acoustic signal was examined by CWT, when the frequency of power supply increased from 10 kHz to 30 kHz.

A dynamic model was set up for the two-span rotor-bearing system with coupling faults of crack and pedestal looseness supported on three plain journal bearings. The nonlinear dynamic behaviors that induced by crack, pedestal looseness and coupling faults are numerically studied. There is quasi-periodic motion appearing in the cracked rotor-bearing system, and it within the sub-critical speed range in the pedestal looseness rotor-bearing system. There is chaotic motion appearing within the supper-critical speed range in the pedestal looseness rotor-bearing system. The pedestal looseness fault is the main influence on the coupling faults system, and there is Period-3 motion appearing in the system. The results may bring up theoretical references for fault diagnoses, dynamic design, and security running to rotor-bearing system.
