Fasteners: Strength and Quality Requirements

Heavy hex nuts may be selected with similar hardness to the studs to avoid stripping of nut threads for pressure containing (closure bolting) and primary load bearing bolting. However, industry specification for subsea production systems, e.g. such as API Specifications 6A, 16A, 16C, and 17D, allows the use of low strength heavy hex nuts, e.g. ASTM A194 Grade 2HM or 7M, to be applied together with high strength studs, e.g. ASTM A320 Grades L43 or L7. In the refining and chemical industries the common practice is to use ASTM A193 B7 studs with 2H nuts. Calculations and testing of nuts have been performed and capacity formulas have been established for nut structural capacities. Guidance is given on selecting nut strength/hardness to avoid stripping of nut threads. ASTM specifications give minimum quality requirements during manufacture. A brief review of standard quality requirements is given and guidance for additional requirements for high integrity fasteners in order to have equivalent quality as pressure containing forgings is given. The results from this paper may be used as background for requirements in code updates and purchaser specifications.

Abstract Strenx Section 900 is a cold-formed steel section made of hot-rolled, high-strength steel with a minimum yield strength of 900 MPa (131 ksi). Its high strength combined with naturally stiff form enables construction of stronger and lighter structures. The common shape is a U-bend channel. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, tensile properties, and bend strength as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SA-792. Producer or source: SSAB Swedish Steel Inc..

Gear pumps are an important element of many production systems and their replacement in case of failure can be quite expensive, so it is important to have a modern and well-tuned technology for their recovery. There are many methods for restoring the pump's performance, depending on the reason that led to its failure. (Research purpose) The research purpose is in determining what causes most often lead to loss of pump performance, and developing a recovery method that provides the greatest post-repair service life of the pump and low cost of repair. (Materials and methods) Authors took into account that the applied coatings must have sufficient adhesion strength and resistance to mechanical, thermal and corrosion loads during operation. It was found that most often significant leaks of the working fluid, leading to failure, occur due to an increase in the gap between the inner surface of the housing and the gears due to active wear of the housing wells. Authors determined that the method of electric spark treatment of worn-out housing wells is best suited to perform the task (a large post-repair resource and low costs). (Results and discussion) It was found by laboratory studies of the adhesion strength of electric spark coatings with various electrodes that the best transfer of the material to the substrate is provided by bronze electrodes BrMKts3-1. It was noted that the coatings applied using the BrMKts3-1 electrode have high strength properties. (Conclusions) Research conducted in the center for collective use "Nano-Center" VIM confirmed the possibility of effective recovery of the gear pump by electric spark treatment.

The article describes experimental research of bending rubber fiber concrete elements with favorable deformation-strength characteristics. The use of such a material as fiberrubcon in load-bearing structures due to its high strength leads to a decrease in material consumption and weight of structures.

Abstract Background This study evaluated the impact of multifaceted NPS MedicineWise programs conducted in 2009 and 2015 that targeted general practitioners (GPs) to reduce unnecessary prescribing of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Methods Time series analyses of the dispensing rates of concessional PPI scripts between January 2006 and June 2016 using the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) databases in Australia. Participants were GPs with dispensed PPI prescriptions to concessional patients between January 2006 and June 2016. The interventions were National NPS MedicineWise PPI educational programs in 2009 and 2015 delivered to all practising GPs in Australia. The 2015 intervention coincided with the release of Choosing Wisely Australia recommendations from the RACGP. Outcome measures included monthly dispensing rates of standard and low strength PPIs prescribed by GPs among concessional patients in Australia. Results Following the 2009 NPS MedicineWise program we observed a 6.7% reduction in the expected dispensing rate of standard strength PPIs among concessional patients between January 2006 and March 2015, and a total 8.6% reduction by June 2016 following the launch of the 2015 program. We observed a significant increase of 5.6% in the expected dispensing rate of low strength PPIs among concessional patients between April 2009 and March 2015, and no significant change in trend following the 2015 program. Conclusions The NPS MedicineWise programs were associated with reductions in the dispensing rate of standard strength PPIs, and with an increase in the dispensing rate of low-strength PPIs by June 2016. Although the rate of high-strength PPI prescribing is declining, these formulations still constitute the majority of PPI use in Australia. Regular interventions to sustain and improve PPI management by GPs may be warranted.

AbstractThis article argues that existing typologies on production and welfare regimes should be combined into a typology unifying the study of production and distribution in advanced capitalist countries. The article utilises a principal component and cluster analysis to show that such a typology indeed reflects the empirical diversity of countries. This is further illustrated by a brief literature review of different typologies. It is then shown how the integration of the two approaches helps to resolve problems addressed in the new literature on the varieties of capitalism approach, notably how welfare arrangements relate to production systems. Thereby, the relevance of an integrated typology for policy-makers in the fields of welfare and production will be illustrated. Lastly, some thoughts follow on how an integrated typology allows for a perspective that explains the development of various welfare and production regimes based on the common historical heritage of families of nations.
