ABSTRACT Salmonella enterica is a Gram-negative bacterium, recognized as one of the most important foodborne pathogens in the world. Bacteriophages represent a promising alternative to the biocontrol of Salmonella. Here, we report the isolation of five Salmonella bacteriophages, the sequencing of their full genomes, and initial genomic characterization.

Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis is a Gram-negative bacterium and one of the most common foodborne pathogens. Biocontrol using bacteriophage in food products or animals is one possible means by which pathogenic salmonellosis infection could be inhibited.

Phage Sepoy infects Salmonella enterica serovar Heidelberg, a Gram-negative bacterium that causes severe foodborne illnesses. Bacteriophages infecting this pathogen may be used as biocontrol agents for preventing Salmonella foodborne diseases. Here, we present the complete genome sequence of Sepoy, a T5-like siphophage.

ABSTRACT Vibrio natriegens, a fast-growing Gram-negative bacterium, is gaining interest as a platform for rapid biotechnology applications and metabolic engineering. Only a few bacteriophages that infect this bacterium have been identified. Here, we describe the isolation and characterization of two V. natriegens bacteriophages isolated from Hatches Creek, Wellfleet, Massachusetts.

ABSTRACT The use of bacteriophages as antimicrobial agents represents a promising alternative for the control of pathogenic bacteria. Here, we present the complete genome sequences of two novel Salmonella enterica lytic bacteriophages, NBSal006 and NBSal007, candidates for Salmonella biocontrol.

Klebsiella pneumoniae is a Gram-negative bacterium that is a major cause of nosocomial infections worldwide. Here, we present the complete genome sequence of TK421, a clinical bacteremia isolate containing a hypervirulence plasmid carrying tra-associated conjugation machinery genes. Emergence of conjugative hypervirulence plasmids could portend rapid dissemination of hypervirulence among multidrug-resistant K. pneumoniae strains.

Vibrio vulnificus is a Gram-negative bacterium and an opportunistic pathogen that can cause septicemia or necrotizing fasciitis. Here, we report the draft genome sequences of 42 environmental V. vulnificus strains collected from the northern Gulf of Mexico. These data will allow for more robust comparisons between clinical and environmental strains.

Escherichia coli 4s is a Gram-negative bacterium found in the equine intestinal ecosystem alongside diverse other coliform bacteria and bacteriophages. This announcement describes the complete genome of the T7-like E. coli 4s podophage Penshu1. From its 39,263-bp genome, 54 protein-encoding genes and a 179-bp terminal repeat were predicted.
