A model is proposed, which simulates the growth of an axis and its series of leaves, during a long period of growth. Biological validations of the equations and of the parameters are proposed along with remarks on the concept of organ category. Key words: modelling, growth, stem, leaf, sigmoid curves. Sand mining which continuously done may cause the sand of amount in the bottom of river decreasing and may result, to the destruction of the river if occured for a long period. Revegetation activity must be done on some former sand mining river boundaries. Acacia (Acacia mangium) might be able to grow in low nutrient soil. The purposes of this research is to get information about sub soil and coconut charcoal granting effects towards acacia seedling growth on former sand mining medium. The research showed that the interaction of the added sub soil and coconut shell charcoal is significant to the heightand diameter parameter of acacia seedling while sub soil addition is significant to Dry Weight Total (DWK) parameter. Interaction of 250 g sub soil, 60 g charcoal on 750 g sand is the best treatment to enhance seedling tall growth for about 88.73%. Interaction of 750 g sub soil on 250 g sand is the most significant treatment for diameter parameter for about 71.21% diameter growth. The best treatment for Dry Weight Total (DWK) is shown by interaction of 250 g sub soil and 250 g charcoal on 500 g sand. Charcoal granting independently is not significant to addition acacia seedling growth. The addition of sub soil only showed the best result of 750 g sub soil granting with diameter growth around 71.21%. Key words: Acacia mangium. Willd., charcoal, sand mining, sub soil

Distribution of glandular and eglandular hairs on the aerial organs of Salvia recognita Fisch. & Mey. has been investigated. Glandular hairs of S. recognita have consisted of capitate and peltate hairs. Capitate hairs were present abundantly on all aerial parts of S. recognita while peltate hairs were only present on stem, leaf, bract and calyx. Eglandular hairs were also widespread on all aerial parts. Key words: Salvia recognita, Lamiaceae, Glandular hairs, Eglandular hairs, Endemic doi:10.3329/bjb.v37i1.1571 Bangladesh J. This paper presents the results of numerical studies to define the wave climate inside the Bay of Sept-îles, where it is proposed to build a small craft harbour. This wave climate is relatively complex as it results from waves coming from outside the Bay, that is from the estuary of the St. Lawrence, or generated inside the Bay itself. Such information is required to select the configuration of the harbour and the best location among the various sites proposed. Waves have been recorded at a station outside the Bay in 1966 – 1967 and inside the Bay in 1983. These records were used to calibrate the wave forecasting model based on wind data recorded at Sept-îles airport. They were also used to validate results obtained from a refraction model used to determine wave transformation from outside to inside the Bay. Then waves were forecasted over a long period (1953 – 1984), for the ice-free season, and used to study wave agitation inside different schemes proposed for harbour configuration and site. The study shows that there is a need to obtain better wave information and to improve the numerical models. Key words: wave forecasting, wave transformation, wave records, wave modeling, harbor, Sept-îles.

Compudose®, a growth promotant implant for cattle which gives a sustained release of estradiol-17β over a relatively long period of time, was evaluated in a 140-day trial with 80 growing-finishing cattle. An average of 96.9 (± 0.53 SE) μg of estradiol-17β was released daily from these implants. Implanted cattle gained 15.0% faster, ate 7.6% more feed daily and required 6.7% less feed per unit of gain than control steers. Steers which had received Compudose® had 17 kg larger carcasses when slaughtered and a higher dressing percentage. It was concluded that Compudose® is a good growth promotant implant for growing-finishing steers and has the advantage that a single implant can be used in the finishing period. The geometries of points, lines, line segments, triangles and circles have been studied at depth by many learned mathematicians, scholars and researchers for a long period of time. Among these geometries the geometrical properties of nine-point circle is indeed interesting, fascinating and glamorous also. The curiosity present in human mind have motivated the aforesaid community to explore the properties of more than one nine-point circle emerging from four arbitrarily chosen points. In this paper the authors have attempted to simulate a few of them in a user friendly environment and bringing in light a case which is yet not either studied or not found in the prevailing literature, as regards Schro ̈dder’s findings. Key words: Nine-point circle, ortho-centric points, collinear points, MATLAB

Geographers and historians are interested in the origin of the title “Rus” for a long period. It is an object of numerous speculations and hypotheses contained in geographical, historical and linguistic-cultural research. During the last two centuries, an enormous number of sources that devoted to the origin of the title Rus were amassed in linguistics, historical and geographical literature. The main aim of this article is to explore the location of Rus, Red Rus during different historical periods for indication of Ukrainian ethnic territory or its parts by using a foreign cartographic material of XIV–XVIII centuries. Development and becoming of cartography in this period were analyzed. The use of names “Rus”, “Red Rus” by European cartographers was researched. The views of researchers who have studied this question in different periods were analyzed. Changes in the title of “Rus” on European maps during the research period were tracked based on a detailed study and analysis of scientific and cartographic sources, summarizing the results of geographical research toponymy of Ukraine. The main maps, which depicted the territory of Rus, were chronologically described. A description of many old maps was made. The history of the mapping of the territory of Ukraine was represented in chronological order based on the processing of numerous cartographic and literature sources. Key words: Rus, Red Rus, White Rus, Black Rus, map.

This article addresses the prominence of 'traditional' leaders and institutions in the Somaliland's "success-story" of political reconstruction after a violent conflict. Can the Somaliland experience be replicated and serve as a model for other cases of problematic statehood? Through an analysis of the Somaliland case, the article shows that one can not simply 'use' traditional leaders and institutions. They are not a-political entities or concepts. They are adaptable and have a dynamic of their own. The 'traditional' order is profoundly connected with 'non-traditional' orders i.e. 'modem' political leaders and institutions. How both develop and interact is contingent upon an aggregate of factors which develop over a long period of time. This set offactors include so-called 'structural' ones as well as ones that are more 'agency'-related. This aggregation of factors makes the Somaliland experience difficult to replicate. 'Traditional' leaders and institutions are not magic bullets, not a one- fits-all in cases of problematic statehood. They should not be viewed as a-political components of some 'appropriate governance technology' that will provide leaders and institutions supposedly adapted to a timeless 'African situation and culture '.Key Words: Somalia, Somaliland, 'Traditional' Leaders, Post-War Reconstruction, Institutions

- In the last decade, one of the main issue of the Italian political debate is a large amount of public employ. The reason is basically economic. We know in fact how the expansion of the public debt shows the need to contain the costs, and how the huge part of the public cost is represented by the public employ. No surprise that this issue has been object of several laws (from legge Treu to the riforma Biagi, finishing with all the financial laws that try to reduce the turnover) that have modified aspects and characteristics (from the job contraction to the ways to accede to the public employ). All this facts created in the imaginary the idea of the impossibility to accede to the public employ, with the traditional permanent contract, and consequently a huge reduction of the number of public employees. But is it really like that? The author try to answer to this question starting from a long period analyse arriving at the recent story to give a vision as complete as possible for quality and quantity of the Italian public employment.Key words: Public Employment; Public Budget; Administrative Work; Financial Laws; Public Policies, Italian Perspective.
