A hand-operated suction sampler is described for use by SCUBA divers. The sampler is simple in construction and compact in size, and it provides a means by which diminutive benthic algae, invertebrates, or fish may be collected. Key words: algae, benthic organisms, sampling device, SCUBA, suction sampler

Natural isotopic labelling of animal metabolic processes presents great advantages over the use of artificially enriched compounds. These advantages include the use of natural diets, low cost and easiness of handling, sampling and disposal. Changes in the 13C/12C ratio of expired CO2 after ingestion of a test meal containing a variable proportion of C3 and/or C4 plant-derived products permits measurements of the immediate oxidation of dietary carbohydrates. A breathing device for collection of expired CO2 and purification techniques are described. The breath-sampling device is composed of a polypropylene enclosure and a rubber bag. The rubber bag is blown up by the animal and a sample of the expired gas is transferred to a sampling glass holder in which a vacuum had been previously achieved. Sample purification of expired CO2 is done by differential freezing. Key words: Breath device, carbon 13, calf

The work is devoted to investigation of water quality using bioindicators benthic organisms. Methods of bioindicators in researches of headwaters of Prut and Chornyy Cheremosh Rivers were proved and tested. Comprehensive study of water quality of mountain streams was conducted for five years. Changes in water quality, trends and the reasons for their occurrence were revealed during the analysis. Based on these results recommendations for improving of geoecological situation in the rivers basin were developed. Key words: water quality, bioindication, geoecology, indices of quality, monitoring, pollution.

A sampling device (Robbins device) was used to expose brass, copper, and polyvinyl chloride plugs to potable water contaminated by Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1. Plugs were removed at approximately 1-week intervals and cultured. The colonization rates were polyvinyl chloride, 70; copper, 31; and brass, 25%. Quantitative cultures revealed that polyvinyl chloride was most heavily colonized, whereas brass was least colonized. We conclude that materials used in plumbing systems are readily colonized by Legionella and that the Robbins device provides a means for testing such materials in an in situ setting. Key words: Legionella, colonization, plumbing materials.

Problems of obtaining quantitative samples of aquatic organisms via conventional devices are discussed and an alternative sampler based on the presumed mechanics of cetacean feeding is proposed. A polyethylene tube mounted on a light frame that minimizes the bow wave envelops a column of water and permits its filtration. Key words: avoidance, bow wave, plankton, quantitative sample, sampler, turbulence, water column

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the digestive tract (1%). These tumors express the CD 117 in 95% of cases. The stomach is the preferential localization (70%). Diagnosis is difficult and sometimes late. Progress of imaging has greatly improved the management and the prognosis. Computed tomography (CT) is the gold standard for diagnosis, staging, and treatment follow-up. The increasing recognition of GIST’s histopathology and the prolonged survival revealed some suggestive imaging aspects. Key words: gastro-intestinal stromal tumors; computed tomography; diagnosis

This article aims at describing the obseroance of wasiat wajibah (compulsory bequeathment) in the Islamic court of Banten, analyzing the provision of the substitute heir and adopted children in the Compilation of  Islamic Law (KHI). In addition, the ideal laws to manage the innheritance rules in Indonesia. This article is library research by using doctrinal approach and using case study and survey methods. The data was, then, analyzed by using analytical descriptive and analytical correlative methods. The result showed that the observance of wasiat wajibah in the Islamic court of  Banten employed by judges is by using the Mawali Hazairin’s Doctrine. The criteria of the adoption of substitute heir and adopted children in the KHI is the attempts of Ulama and many judgees junst in giving legal justice and certainty to the society.   Key Words: Islamic Inheritance Law, Compilation of Islamic Law, Islamic court of  Banten

Five phosphorus rates (0, 5, 10, 20 and 30 kg P/ha) were tested with four rice genotypes in Boro (BRRI dhan36, BRRI dhan45, EH1 and EH2) and T. Aman (BRRI dhan30, BRRI dhan49, EH1 and EH2) season. Phosphorus rates did not influence grain yield irrespective of varieties in T. Aman season while in Boro season P response was observed among the P rates. Application of P @ 10 kg/ha significantly increased the grain yield. But when P was applied @ 20 and 30 kg P/ha, the grain yield difference was not significant. The optimum and economic rate of P for T. Aman was 20 kg P/ha but in Boro rice the optimum and economic doses of P were 22 and 30 kg/ha, respectively. Hybrid entries (EH1 and EH2) used P more efficiently than inbred varieties. A negative P balance was observed up to 10 kg P/ha.
