In this work, a propelled dynamic approach, Taguchi grey relational analysis has been employed to estimate the impact of untreated and cryogenically treated and oil-quenched WC-Co tools in high-speed turning of Inconel 713C alloy on cutting force and surface roughness. Taguchi grey relational analysis is executed to maximize the high-speed turning of Inconel 713C alloy taking into account various operating parameters (cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut). The L27 orthogonal array has been utilized to determine the signal-to-noise ratio. Analysis of variance was performed to recognize the large number of components influencing surface roughness. The numerical examination showed that feed rate, with percentages as high as 95%, had the most predominant impact on machining performance, followed by cutting speed for untreated and treated WC-Co tools.

In any machining operations, quality is the important conflicting objective. In order to give assurance for high productivity, some extent of quality has to be compromised. Similarly productivity will be decreased while the efforts are channelized to enhance quality. In this study,  the experiments were carried out on a CNC vertical machining center (KENT and INDIA Co. Ltd, Taiwan make) to perform 10mm slots on Al 6351-T6 alloy work piece by K10 carbide, four flute end milling cutter as per taguchi design of experiments plan by L9 orthogonal array was choosen to determine experimental trials. Furthermore the spindle speed (rpm), the feed rate (mm/min) and depth of cut (mm) are regulated in these experiments. Surface roughness and chip thickness was measured by a surface analyser of Surf Test-211 series (Mitutoyo) and Digital Micrometer (Mitutoyo) with least count 0.001 mm respectively. Grey relational analysis was employed to minimize surface roughness and chip thickness by setting of optimum combination of machining parameters. Minimum surface roughness and chip thickness obtained with 1000 rpm of spindle speed, 50 mm/min feed rate and 0.7 mm depth of cut respectively. Confirmation experiments showed that Gray relational analysis precisely optimized the drilling parameters in drilling of Al 6351-T6 alloy.

AbstractParameter optimization is used in manufacturing as an indicator to produce the best manufacturing product. This paper studies an optimization parameters of CNC laser cutting such as focus of laser beam, pressure cutting gases and cutting speed for reducing variation of surface roughness and cutting rate on material SUS 316L. Based on L9(34) orthogonal array parameters, it is analized using ANOVA based on Taguchi method. In order to optimaze the minimum surface roughness and maximum cutting rate in laser cutting process, it is used Grey relational analysis. The confirmation experiments used to validate the optimal results that has done by Taguchi method. The results show that the Taguchi Grey relational analysis is being effective to optimize the machining parameters for laser cutting process with two responses.

Reaming is one of the finishing processes that has been widely applied in automotive industry. Reaming parameters were evaluated and optimized based on multiple performance characteristics including tool wear and hole quality. Taguchi’s L16, 4-level, 2-factor orthogonal array (OA) was conducted for this test. It was shown that crater wear and flank wear were seen on the tool surface. Furthermore, the crater wear was also of major significance. Hole quality was discovered to be mostly dependent upon cutting speed and feed rate. TiAlN coated carbide reamer shows the best performance with respect to the tool wear as well as hole quality. Grey relational analysis used as a multiple-response optimization technique found that feed rate was the more influential parameter than cutting speed. The goal of the experimental results was to obtain both minimum diametral error and the value of surface roughness by adopting the optimal combination of the reaming parameters.

The machining of Ti6Al4V alloy with vibration assisted turning (VAT) is an effective consideration to control the surface integrity of machined components. The effect of cutting and vibrating parameters in a VAT on cutting force, cutting temperature, equivalent stress and compressive maximum circumferential residual stress (MCRS) was studied in the present work. The parameter optimisation of a VAT of Ti6Al4V alloy was achieved with Taguchi based analysis of variance (ANOVA) and grey relational analysis (GRA). The input parameters considered for optimisation of VAT process are cutting speed, feed rate, frequency and amplitude. The finite element (FE) simulations were performed with commercial FE code, ABAQUS. The result shows that the vibrating parameters (frequency and amplitude) play a significant role than cutting parameters (speed and feed rate) in VAT process. The optimum condition for each output response was determined from ANOVA. The optimum condition obtained at 30 m/min of cutting speed, 150 μm of amplitude, 600 Hz of frequency and 0.05 mm/rev of feed rate for cutting force, cutting temperature and MCRS (compressive) while the optimum condition for equivalent stress is 30 m/min of cutting speed, 100 μm of amplitude, 600 Hz of frequency and 0.05 mm/rev of feed rate. The GRA suggests the combination of process parameters 30 m/min of cutting speed, 150 μm of amplitude, 600 Hz of frequency and 0.05 mm/rev of feed rate provides the optimum response.
