This paper presents a new non-local expanding flow for convex closed curves in the Euclidean plane which increases both the perimeter of the evolving curves and the enclosed area. But the flow expands the evolving curves to a finite circle smoothly if they do not develop singularity during the evolving process. In addition, it is shown that an additional assumption about the initial curve will ensure that the flow exists on the time interval [Formula: see text]. Meanwhile, a numerical experiment reveals that this flow may blow up for some initial convex curves.

We investigated, for the first time, the curve shortening flow in the metric-affine plane and prove that under simple geometric condition (when the curvature of initial curve dominates the torsion term) it shrinks a closed convex curve to a “round point” in finite time. This generalizes the classical result by M. Gage and R.S. Hamilton about convex curves in a Euclidean plane.

We consider an initial boundary value problem for the non-local equation, ut = uxx+λf(u)/(∫1-1f (u)dx)2, with Robin boundary conditions. It is known that there exists a critical value of the parameter λ, say λ*, such that for λ > λ* there is no stationary solution and the solution u(x, t) blows up globally in finite time t*, while for λ < λ* there exist stationary solutions. We find, for decreasing f and for λ > λ*, upper and lower bounds for t*, by using comparison methods. For f(u) = e−u, we give an asymptotic estimate: t* ∼ tu(λ−λ*)−1/2 for 0 < (λ−λ*) [Lt ] 1, where tu is a constant. A numerical estimate is obtained using a Crank-Nicolson scheme.

In this paper, we are interested in solving general time interval multidimensional backward stochastic differential equation in Lp (p ≥ 1). We first study the existence and uniqueness for Lp (p > 1) solutions by the method of convolution and weak convergence when the generator is monotonic in y and Lipschitz continuous in z both non-uniformly with respect to t. Then we obtain the existence and uniqueness for L1 solutions with an additional assumption that the generator has a sublinear growth in z non-uniformly with respect to t.
