We present some preliminary results on the next-to-leading order calculation in QCD of quarkonium production cross sections in hadronic collisions. We will show that the NLO total cross sections for P-wave states produced at high energy are not reliable, due to the appearance of very large and negative contributions. We also discuss some issues related to the structure of final states in colour-octet production and to high-pt fragmentation.

The CERN-[Formula: see text] collider data and the TASSO e+e− data for hadronic final states indicate a new scaling of the inclusive cross sections in the reduced rapidity variables ξ = y/Y where [Formula: see text] and mπ is the pion mass.

Abstract Using modern multiloop calculation methods, we derive the analytical expressions for the total cross sections of the processes e−γ →$$ {e}^{-}X\overline{X} $$ e − X X ¯ with X = μ, γ or e at arbitrary energies. For the first two processes our results are expressed via classical polylogarithms. The cross section of e−γ → e−e−e+ is represented as a one-fold integral of complete elliptic integral K and logarithms. Using our results, we calculate the threshold and high-energy asymptotics and compare them with available results.

Abstract We present the production cross section for a lepton-neutrino pair at the Large Hadron Collider computed at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N3LO) in QCD perturbation theory. We compute the partonic coefficient functions of a virtual W± boson at this order. We then use these analytic functions to study the progression of the perturbative series in different observables. In particular, we investigate the impact of the newly obtained corrections on the inclusive production cross section of W± bosons, as well as on the ratios of the production cross sections for W+, W− and/or a virtual photon. Finally, we present N3LO predictions for the charge asymmetry at the LHC.

We review the present status of the QCD corrected cross-sections and kinematic distributions for the production of a Higgs boson in association with bottom quarks at the Fermilab Tevatron and CERN Large Hadron Collider. Results are presented for the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model where, for large tan β, these production modes can be greatly enhanced compared to the Standard Model case. The next-to-leading order QCD results are much less sensitive to the renormalization and factorization scales than the lowest order results, but have a significant dependence on the choice of the renormalization scheme for the bottom quark Yukawa coupling. We also investigate the uncertainties coming from the Parton Distribution Functions and find that these uncertainties can be comparable to the uncertainties from the remaining scale dependence of the next-to-leading order results. We present results separately for the different final states depending on the number of bottom quarks identified.

Abstract Photodisintegration cross sections for the reaction 9Be(γ,n) 8Be with photonenergies varied from threshold to about 17 MeV are calculated. As nuclear model is assumed a single particle shell model where the valence neutron outside the 8Be core is feeling a spherical field. The core state is assumed to be a mixture of the ground (0+) and the first excited (2+) state of the 8Be nucleus. The total cross sections are splitted up according to the different contributing reaction channels. The radial wave functions in initial as well as final states are of the Saxon-Woods type.

The ALICE Collaboration measured dielectron production as a function of the invariant mass ( m ee ), the pair transverse momentum ( p T , ee ) and the pair distance of closest approach ( DCA ee ) in pp collisions at s = 7 TeV. Prompt and non-prompt dielectron sources can be separated with the DCA ee , which will give the opportunity in heavy-ion collisions to identify thermal radiation from the medium in the intermediate-mass range dominated by contributions from open-charm and beauty hadron decays. The charm and beauty total cross sections are extracted from the data by fitting the spectra with two different MC generators, i.e., PYTHIA a leading order event generator and POWHEG a next-to-leading order event generator. Significant model dependences are observed, reflecting the sensitivity of this measurement to the heavy-flavour production mechanisms.
