A new DC/DC converter integrating a full-bridge circuit and a half-bridge pulse-width circuit is studied to realize the advantages of a wide range of zero-voltage switching (ZVS) and less circulating current loss. A half-bridge converter is connected to power switches on the lagging-leg of full-bridge converter to achieve a wider range of ZVS to overcome the disadvantage of narrow ZVS range in conventional full-bridge converter. The output side of half-bridge circuit is linked to the secondary side of the full-bridge converter to decrease the primary circulating current of the full-bridge converter. Therefore, the conduction losses due to the high circulating current in conventional full-bridge converter are reduced. The theoretical analysis is discussed in detail and the effectiveness of the proposed converter is verified by the experimental verifications with a 1440[Formula: see text]W prototype.

A new hybrid inductor-inductor-capacitor (LLC) converter is investigated to have wide voltage input operation capability and zero-voltage turn-on characteristics. The presented circuit topology can be applied for consumer power units without power factor correction or with long hold-up time requirement, photovoltaic energy conversion and renewable energy power transfer. To overcome the weakness of narrow voltage gain of resonant converter, the hybrid LLC converter with different turns ratio of transformer is presented and the experimental investigation is provided to achieve wide voltage input capability (400 V–50 V). On the input-side, the converter can operate as full bridge resonant circuit or half bridge resonant circuit with input split capacitors for high or low voltage input region. On the output-side, the less or more winding turns is selected to overcome wide voltage input operation. According to the circuit structures and transformer turns ratio, the single stage LLC converter with wide voltage input operation capability (400 V–50 V) is accomplished. The laboratory prototype has been developed and the experimental waveforms are measured and demonstrated to investigate the effectiveness of the presented hybrid LLC converter.

This paper proposes a novel bilateral zero-voltage switching (ZVS) bidirectional converter with synchronous rectification. By controlling the direction and timing of excessive current injection, the main power switches can achieve bilateral ZVS under various loads and output voltages. Compared with the common soft-switching power converter with only zero-voltage turn-on, the proposed bilateral ZVS bidirectional converter can achieve both zero-voltage switching on and off in every switching cycle. This feature can alleviate the output switching noise due to the controlled rising and falling slope of the switch voltage. Furthermore, the voltage slopes almost remain unchanged over a wide range of output voltages and load levels. The most important feature of bilateral ZVS is to reduce the output switching noise. Experimental results based on a 1 kW prototype are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed converter. From experimental results on the proposed scheme, the switching noise reduction is about 75%.

This paper examines the characteristics of the zero voltage switching (ZVS) and zero voltage transition (ZVT) soft-switching applied in the 3-phase current fed dual active bridge (3P-CFDAB) converter, which combines the advantages of the dual active bridge (DAB) converter and current-fed full bridge (CFFB) converter. When an active clamp circuit is added to the CFFB converter, the circuit configuration of the DAB converter is shown in part of the entire circuit. This allows the use of pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques which combine the PWM techniques of both the DAB converter and CFFB converter. The proposed converter performs both duty and phase control at the same time in order to reduce the circulating current and ripple current of the output capacitor, which are the disadvantages of the CFFB converter and DAB converter. In addition, the ZVS and ZVT soft switching areas were analyzed by means of the phase current and leakage inductor current in each transformers. To verify the principle and feasibility of the proposed operation techniques, a simulation and experiment were implemented with the 3P-CFDAB.

Interleaved Boost Full Bridge integrated LLC resonant (IBFB- LLC) is an isolated DC/DC converter with directional power flow, which can cope with a wide input voltage range of PV applications. The main losses of the converter are switching losses of the power switches and transformers losses. This paper proposes a method to improve the efficiency of the IBFB converter due to zero voltage switching technique, in combination with employing new SiC MOSFET technology instead of the conventional Si MOSFET. In addition, Litz wire is also adopted to reduce the losses on the high frequency isolation transformer. Both numerical simulations and experiments with a prototype 2.5kW converter are implemented to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed solution.

A zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) buck-boost converter with a coupled inductor based on magnetic materials is proposed in this paper. An auxiliary circuit consisting of an additional winding to the main inductor, an auxiluary inductor, and an auxiliary diode is utilized to obtain the ZVS operation of power switches. Due to the ZVS operation, the switching loss is significantly reduced. The operation principle and steady-state analysis of the proposed converter are provided. A prototype of the proposed converter is developed, and its experimental results are presented for validation

Abstract This paper investigates a modified simple soft switching dc-dc converter for low power applications. This simple topology uses an auxiliary switch, an inductor and a capacitor to operate the converter without switching losses. The efficiency of the converter is improved by transferring the energy that would be dissipated during the switching to the load. The main switch turns-on with zero current switching (ZCS) and turns-off with zero voltage switching (ZVS), while the auxiliary switch turns-on and turns-off with zero voltage switching (ZVS). The detailed theoretical analysis and the design equations are described. In addition to that, the analysis of proposed converter is demonstrated by both simulation and experimental results for effectiveness of the study.
