Relationships between Market and Entrepreneurial Orientation and Organizational Performance: Empirical Evidence from Small and Medium Scale Garment Manufacturers in Sri Lanka

The literature indicates that small and medium scale firms are quite different with respect to their utilization of business practices. Thus, the study endeavours to address the relationships between the market and entrepreneurial orientation, and organizational performance. The study derived two hypotheses in relation to the relationship between market orientation and entrepreneurial orientation, and organisational performance in the attempt to examine how both the orientations contribute to the organizational performance of small and medium entrepreneurs in garment industry at Southern province, Sri Lanka. The sample of the study consisted of 175 respondents representing small and medium scale entrepreneurs in the Southern Province Sri Lanka. A structured questionnaire was administered to the sample respondents to collect data. The data were analyzed with Partial Least Squares path modeling (PLS) to test the hypotheses of the study. The results indicated that the hypotheses were statistically significant and all effects were in the expected direction.

Innovation plays a key role in the success of businesses the world over. The purpose for this study is to explore the mediating role of job customer satisfaction in the relationship between service innovation and organisational performance. Data for the study was obtained from 450 commercial bank customers in Ghana using structured questionnaire. The PLS-SEM was the main analytical tool used to analyse the research findings via AMOS 22. Findings from this study revealed a positive and significant relationship between service innovation and organizational performance. Additionally, the study revealed that customer satisfaction was found to have positive and significant effect on organisational performance. However, there was no significant relationship between service innovation and customer satisfaction in this study. The study contributes to existing literature on service innovation from a developing country context. The implications for the study are also discussed.

The objective of this theoretical paper is to explore the relationship of market orientation (MO) and organizational performance in the context of Indian textile processing industry. The study also aims to construct a conceptual model which can hypothesize the relationship between market orientation, firm performance, and entrepreneurial orientation (EO). The conceptual model is drawn with the help of extant literature review of studies conducted by various authors in the area of market orientation and entrepreneurial orientation. The study presents a model depicting the inter-relationship among MO, EO and firm performance. The proposed model also propounds that the relationship between market orientation and firm performance is mediated by entrepreneurial orientation. This work will be helpful for different stakeholders of textile processing industry to understand the importance of MO and EO and their impact on the performance of the organization. Also, the proposed conceptual model showing inter-relationship among MO, EO and firm performance is an addition to the existing pool of knowledge.

Purpose – This study aims to contribute to the literature by addressing two research questions: is there a relationship between e-commerce adoption and performance of SMEs? And, more importantly, does the degree of entrepreneurial orientation moderate the relationship between e-commerce adoption and SME performance? Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected from a sample of 55 manufacturing and service SMEs located in the state of Texas, USA, between 2008 and 2009 using a structured questionnaire. Customized questionnaires were mailed out to the owner-managers of 55 SMEs. A moderated regression analysis was conducted to test the two hypotheses. Findings – The results suggest that e-commerce adoption has a significant, positive influence on SMEs' average sales growth rate and that adopters of e-commerce technology have significantly higher average sales growth rate than non-adopters. The results also indicate that e-commerce adoption positively affects SMEs' annual sales growth rate even more when the sample firms have higher level of entrepreneurial orientation. Overall, the results of this analysis indicate the importance of e-commerce adoption as well as SMEs' entrepreneurial orientation on the performance of SMEs. Research limitations/implications – The findings of this study can be useful for SMEs in general as a means of understanding how e-commerce adoption positively affects the firm's performance. Such a relationship suggests that e-commerce adoption is an important factor that can enhance firm's internal processes and ultimately performance. Therefore, e-commerce adopters should continue to utilize this technology while non-adopters should consider harnessing the potential of this technology to further streamline their operations and effectiveness. Originality/value – This study contributes to the literature by providing empirical evidence on the role of e-commerce adoption and entrepreneurial orientation in small firm performance.

The study investigated the relevance of entrepreneurial orientation on the performance of Small and Medium scale Enterprises (SMEs) in Delta State. Other specific objectives are to determine the relationship between proactiveness and SMEs performance; to assess the connection between competitive aggressiveness and SMEs performance; to ascertain the connection between risk-taking and SMEs performance. A cross sectional research design was adopted for the study. A structured questionnaire was developed to elicit data from respondents for the study. This study specifically focused on relationship between proactiveness, competitive aggressiveness, innovativeness and the relationship between risk-taking and SMEs performance. All the staff of selected SMEs were sampled. The analytical technique used for hypotheses testing was the chi-square, using Stata version 13. Findings revealed that, all variables used in this study had a significant and positive relationship with performance of SMEs. Thus, the study concludes that entrepreneurial orientation has a significant relationship with performance of Small and Medium scale Enterprises (SMEs). This study therefore recommends amongst others that more intensive entrepreneurial training and practice be done by students in tertiary institutions as there seems to be no job waiting for graduates among the teeming youths we have in Nigeria today.

The present research explores the impact of training and innovation on organisational performance. Additionally, this research scrutinises how job satisfaction partially mediates the impact of training and innovation on organisational performance. Therefore, in order to achieve the objective of this research, the survey procedure using single-stage cluster sampling method is used to develop an in-depth profile, which is gathered from 653 out of 800 formal standardised questionnaires sent to employees who are in the managerial or supervisory level and above at 400 hotels in West Malaysia. For this research, only two questionnaires were distributed to the managers of each hotel. This research employed quantitative methods to produce empirical results and shreds of evidence that fulfil the research questions. The literature scrutinised training, innovation, job satisfaction, and organisational performance to fill the gap and to uncover the significance of training programs and innovation on organisational performance with job satisfaction as the mediator. The analysis shows that training and innovation are statistically significant and has a strong relationship with job satisfaction and organisational performance. Conclusively, the hypothesis depicted that job satisfaction mediates the relationship between training and innovation on organisational performance in the hospitality industry. Thus, the findings of this study could aid as an example to other hoteliers in Malaysia to not presume the impact of training and innovativeness on organisational performance. Over the past few decades, the researchers demonstrate consistent effort in investigating the Small and Medium scale Enterprises (SMEs). This sector plays a crucial role in the economic growth in both developing and developed countries. The research investigated how accounting practices influence the organizational performance of small and medium scale enterprises in Sri Lanka. Accounting practices consists of record keeping, budgeting practices and payroll accounting whereas organizational performance is measured by organizational goal achievement, organizational effectiveness and organizational efficiency records. A structured questionnaire was used to collect the primary data from 75 SMEs which were selected by means of the random sampling technique. The results revealed that among the accounting practices, only record keeping and budgeting practices have significant positive influence on organizational performance of Small and medium enterprises in Sri Lanka. It can be recommended that academic institutions and other bodies which are responsible for SMEs should organize training programmes for those operators who do not have the technical knowhow in the field of accounting to come to grips with it and also provide some SME-specific accounting guidelines and template forms for capturing accounting practices for the operators to use. The study examined the impact of leadership style on organizational performance in selected Banks, in Ibadan Nigeria. Purposive sampling technique was adopted in selecting a total of sixty (60) respondents as sample for the study, while relevant data was gathered with the aid of a structured questionnaire. One hypothesis was formulated and inferential statistical tool was used to analyze the data specifically Pearson product moment correlation was used to examine the relationship between leadership style dimensions and organizational performance, while Regression analysis was used to examine the significant effect of leadership style dimensions on followers and performance. Findings showed positive and negative correlation between leadership style dimensions and organizational performance. It was also found that leadership style dimensions jointly predict organizational performance, which counted for 23% variance of performance. The study concluded that transformational and democratic leadership style should be employed by the Banks’ management in order to wax stronger in a global competitive environment.
