In this paper, the high-temperature oxidation resistant coating on the TA15 titanium alloy by laser cladding (LC) of the KF110-B4C-Ag mixed powders was analyzed in detail. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS) images indicated that a good metallurgy bond between the fabricated coating/TA15 was formed; also the fine/compact microstructure was produced after a cladding process. The oxidation mass gain of TA15 was higher than that of the coating after LC process, which were 3.72 and 0.91[Formula: see text]mg[Formula: see text]cm[Formula: see text], respectively, at 60[Formula: see text]h, greatly enhancing the high temperature oxidation resistance.

Ti–Al alloyed coating reinforced by nitrides was fabricated by laser surface alloying technique to improve mechanical properties and high temperature oxidation resistance of Ti–6Al–4V titanium alloy. Microstructures, mechanical properties and high temperature oxidation behavior of the alloyed coating were analyzed. The results show that the alloyed coating consisted of Ti3Al, TiAl2, TiN and Ti2AlN phases. Nitrides with different morphologies were dispersed in the alloyed coating. The maximum microhardness of the alloyed coating was 906[Formula: see text]HV. The friction coefficients of the alloyed coating at room temperature and high temperature were both one-fourth of the substrate. Mass gain of the alloyed coating oxidized at 800[Formula: see text]C for 1000[Formula: see text]h in static air was [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]mg/mm2, which was 1/35th of the substrate. No obvious spallation was observed for the alloyed coating after oxidation. The alloyed coating exhibited excellent mechanical properties and long-term high temperature oxidation resistance, which improved surface properties of Ti–6Al–4V titanium alloy significantly.

This paper presents the results of a study on the high-temperature oxidation characteristics after mechanical and laser removal of TA15 titanium alloy oxide film. The morphology, components, and roughness of the surface were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and laser confocal microscope (OM). The oxide film can be effectively removed with mechanical grinding and laser cleaning, and the oxide film after mechanical grinding is thicker and looser than that of after laser cleaning. The oxide film is principally composed of TiO2, Ti2O3 and TiO. Besides, there is a small amount of aluminum oxide on the surface. The surface after mechanical grinding was rougher than that of after laser cleaning. Thus, this work indicates that laser can not only clean the oxide film completely, but also strengthen the surface, which is a promising way to favor the widespread application of laser cleaning technology.

The aeroengine and airframe applications of titanium alloys are often limited by their insufficient oxidation resistance to the aggressive environment at higher temperatures. A high temperature oxidation resistant titanium alloy (Arconic-THORTM) has been developed. This alloy is an alpha-beta alloy with superior oxidation resistance and improved creep resistance. The oxidation weight gain of Arconic-THORTM is much lower than Ti-6242 and Beta 21s in the temperature range up to 750˚C. The room and elevated temperature properties of Arconic-THORTM are comparable to those for Ti-6242. Arconic-THORTM also shows superior, post-thermal-exposure tensile strength, ductility, and fatigue properties, and is capable of being cold formed, hot formed, and superplastic formed, welded and heat treated to different product geometries. The microstructures and mechanical properties for sheet manufactured from the production ingots are presented and discussed in this study.

Nickel matrix and Si3N4 micron particles were co-deposited on the aluminum alloy by pulse electro-deposition for high temperature performance. Meanwhile, the oxidation resistance was evaluated through the high temperature oxidation test. The phase structure, micrographs and components of the composite coatings were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) together with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) respectively. The results indicated that Si3N4 particles were uniformly distributed across the coating and there were no pores and cracks or other defects at the coating/substrate interface. Ni-Si3N4 composite coatings are characterized by pyramidal micro-crystallite structure. The thickness of Ni-Si3N4 composite coatings were up to 80 μm for 2h. The results also revealed that the Ni-Si3N4 composite coatings presented better oxidation resistance than the pure Ni coating and aluminum alloy at high temperature. After oxidation at 673 K for 8h, the oxidation resistance of Ni-Si3N4 composite coatings presented the improved oxidation resistance behavior compared to pure Ni and the aluminum alloy, respectively.

Nb-16Si-24Ti-6Cr-6Al-2Hf-xB(x=0, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 6) in situ composites were prepared by arc-melting. Microstructure and the effect of boron on 1250C oxidation resistance of the composites were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray energy disperse spectrum(EDS) as well as X-ray diffraction(XRD). The experimental results showed that the high temperature oxidation resistance of the alloy was remarkably improved by adding proper amount of boron. This may be resulted from several beneficial roles of boron, i.e., boron improves the resistance of Nb5Si3 by solid solution strengthening, inhibits the diffusion of oxygen in the matrix, improves the adherence between the oxide scale and the substrate and increases the cracking resistance of the oxide scale.

The Al2TiO5Coating was deposited on Ti-6Al-4V alloy substrate by homemade micro-arc oxidation system. The microstructure of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy, the phase of coating, the bonding force of the coating and matrix, sulfuric acid corrosion resistance and high-temperature oxidation resistance were study by inverted microscope model, Xray diffract meter, scanning electron microscopy, the coating adhesion automatic scratch tester, box-type furnace. The results show that the phase of coating is composed of Al2TiO5and Al2SiO5, and Al2TiO5.is the main component, the coating surface consists of discharging pit and flange which are unequal in size, rough and overlap and micro-arc oxidation pit diameter increases with the voltage. When micro-arc oxidation voltage is constant, the longer micro-arc oxidation time, the greater the Ti-6Al-4V alloy coating and the substrate binding force. The corrosion resistance of Ti-6Al-4V alloy was improved in sulfuric acid due to micro-arc oxidation; the sulfuric acid corrosion resistance of the coated samples was improved 11 times when the micro-arc oxidation time increased from 5min to 60min. the high-temperature oxidation resistance of Ti-6Al-4V alloy with micro-arc oxidation coatings is higher than Ti-6Al-4V alloy without micro-arc oxidation coating.
