This paper describes a threshold-based wake-up mechanism to reduce the battery power consumption of a mobile data handset. The threshold approach switches the system into the sleep mode when the memory queue for arriving packets is empty, and switches on the system when the number of packets in the memory queue is above a threshold value. We propose several adaptive schemes capable of dynamically selecting the threshold value for the threshold approach. An adaptive algorithm adjusts the threshold value based on a pre-defined packet-dropping probability, for which the switch-on rate is kept reasonably small to maintain the actual packet-dropping probability as close as the pre-defined value. Two strategies are used in the adaptive algorithm to adjust the threshold value: binary-division and fixed-amount. Two calculation strategies are considered to measure the packet-dropping probability: window-averaging and leaky-bucket integration (LBI). Our study indicates that the binary-division strategy outperforms the fixed-amount strategy in adjusting the threshold value. Furthermore, with proper setting, the LBI strategy outperforms the window-averaging strategy.

This research aims to the development of reader equipment as well as control the load limitation of electric power using Atmega 8535 microcontroller. In the development of equipment of reading and controlling electrical energy consumptions, the modified KWH (Kilo Watt Hour) meter was used by placing the optocoupler sensor as the enumerator indicator the electric power consumption on the disc. Atmega 8535 microcontroller was used to control and limitation of the electric power consumption. In this research, the measuring and control system was developed to record the amount of electrical power load used, and it can be used as an alternative to the current divider for the achievement of the efficiency of practical electrical energy consumption. The results of the measurement comparison between the measured load and the output load tended to be stable with an average percentage error of 6.3%, and it was still below the optimum threshold value of the error factor, which around 10%. Therefore, results of testing developed equipment KWH digital meter using Atmega 8535 microcontroller that was produced a good performance.

A new algorithm for optimizing 3G–WiFioffload and load balancing between nodes, called as New – Genetic Zone Routing Protocol (N – GZRP), is proposed in this paper. N – GZRP is a combination of outputs of Roulette Wheel selections method (RWs) and Rank Selections Method (Rs). Output from RWs is optimized by Rs where Rs is used as a threshold value of the uncertainty that occurs due to the use of RWs. The algorithm is implemented for detecting the performance of mobile devices on several different types of networks. The simulation results are compared with the (RWs)–GZRPand ZRP algorithm. The simulation results show that 35% of power consumption can be saved by using the proposed algorithm compared with GZRPalgorithm. Moreover, when compared with ZRP algorithm the proposed algorithm can save 60% power consumption. In addition, N – GZRP has a more stable throughput which is 3 Kbps higher than ZRP. The simulation results also show that N–GZRPhas smaller average delay than GZRP and ZRPwhich are about 20 msand 1400 ms, respectively.N – GZRP also reduces the synchronization delay about 25 ms and 45 ms compared withGZRPalgorithmand ZRP algorithm, respectively.

This paper proposes an adaptive hybrid genetic algorithm (aHGA) for effectively solving the complex reliability optimization problems. The proposed aHGA uses a local search technique and an adaptive scheme for respectively constructing hybrid algorithm and adaptive ability. For more various comparisons with the proposed adaptive algorithm, other aHGAs with conventional adaptive schemes are considered. These aHGAs are tested and analyzed using two complex reliability optimization problems. Numerical result shows that the proposed aHGA outperforms the other competing aHGAs.

Purpose: The revenues for mobile data transmission overtook the revenue of voice calls for the first time in 2014 in the USA. It can be observed that demand for mobile data – largely driven by video and cloud - is increasing exponentially, while overall data revenue is rising only moderately. This will lead to insufficient revenues stream to increase investments into mobile networks and ensure quality service. Consequently, hereof network performance will deteriorate sharply. At the heart of the problem is the current global pricing regime of fixed multiple MB/GB bundles, irrespective of time of the day, intensity of usage (e.g. video vs. email) and underlying economic value of the data. A new framework is proposed as to optimize and align network capacity and implicit data value/utility, which is crucial to ensure customer satisfaction and access justice.

Methodology/Approach: The fundamental differences in pricing voice and data in voice and/or data centric networks are analysed in detail. Information has been synthesized as to develop insights into the impact of different devises and type of digital traffic for the overall performance of mobile networks. Based hereupon, a new framework for mobile data has been proposed to address the increasing misalignment between network capacity, usage and underlying data value/utility. Initial solutions have been proposed and discussed.

Findings: While voice calls are easily quantifiable and are largely predictable in its occurrence and network load implications, mobile data traffic shows very large variations depending on type of traffic. While social media messaging by many customers consumes very little capacity, consumption of video streaming by relatively few customers can lead already to network saturation.

Research Limitation/implication: Carriers set prices for a fixed amount of data – irrespective of intensity and time of data traffic - which leads to sharp spiky type of traffic patterns essentially signalling sharp overuse during busy hours coexist with large period of underused times.
Originality/Value of paper: A new framework for proposition building and particularly pricing of mobile data services is provided.

We consider a control problem for a diffusive PDE model of heterogeneous population of thermostatically controlled loads (TCLs) aiming to balance the aggregate power consumption within a given amount of time. Using the Green’s function approach, the problem is formulated as an approximate controllability problem for a residue depending on control parameters nonlinearly. A sufficient condition for approximate controllability is derived in terms of initial temperature distribution, operation time of TCLs and threshold value of the aggregate power consumption. Case studies allow to reveal the advantages of the proposed solution from numerical calculations point of view.

In VLSI technology, designers concentrations is on area required and on performance of the device. In this design power consumption is one of the major concerns due to increase in chip density, continuous and decline in size of CMOS circuits and frequency at which circuits are operating. High-speed divider is an significant issue of high-speed computing. This paper presents quaternary division algorithm .This algorithm involves detect zero circuit designed with transmission gate. This proposed algorithm is faster than binary division algorithm as well as radix 4 SRT division algorithm in terms of speed & power. This type of fast divider can be used for the design of Arithmetic Logic unit.
