With the development of technological innovation and global economic integration, high-tech enterprises across the world have formed numerous innovation ecosystems with similar natural ecological characteristics. As a result, competition has shifted from single enterprise to supply chain network, and ultimately, to innovation ecosystem, which involves more participants and roles across multiple industries. The current study distinguished two innovation capabilities (internal innovation potential and collaborative open innovation), and two sources of innovation capabilities (internal integration and external integration) along with discussing the specific relationships among integration activities, innovation capabilities, and Hi-tech SMEs’ financing performance. It further explored how interactions between within and cross firm-boundary activities and collaboration exert influence on SMEs’ financing performance and manifested the importance of external collaborative networks to the competitiveness of SMEs.

Purpose – High team performance helps achieve several organizational benefits, such as strengthened competitive advantages, enhanced productivity, and higher profits and market share. For these reasons, the purpose of this paper is to propose a model based on the framework of proactive motivation and the theory of collectivism to analyze the formation of service flexibility and team performance. Design/methodology/approach – To test the hypotheses, this study conducts a survey of service staff in teams from high-tech firms in a well-known industrial zone in Northern Taiwan. These teams provide service for their industrial customers. From the survey, this study confirms the full mediating mechanism of service flexibility among the teams. Findings – The test results reveal that service flexibility fully mediates the relationship between team performance and its exogenous factors. Whereas collectivism negatively moderates the relationship between team efficacy and service flexibility, it does not moderate the relationship between service recovery and service flexibility. Furthermore, collectivism positively moderates the relationship between service flexibility and team performance. Originality/value – This study provides important findings that complement previous literature by examining three fresh antecedents for explaining how team performance is motivated by the mediating role of service flexibility and how some of the study’s model paths are moderated by collectivism. The mediating role of service flexibility indicates that managers can apply service flexibility as a firewall that calibrates a team’s input and output. Managers should encourage the application of agile solutions and advanced technology for facilitating team flexibility, consequently improving team performance.

An important concept in innovation literature is open innovation, where firms may use knowledge of other companies to develop new products or processes. However, there is a tension between the desire to be open, to profit from the knowledge of others, and the desire to be closed to prevent others from making use of the firms own profitable knowledge. Formal and non-formal intellectual property (IP) protection mechanisms may protect the company in an innovation alliance, but are often costly and may hinder flexibility and creativity. In the present paper the role of formal and non-formal IP protection arrangements and communication on the building and maintenance of trust and ultimately on performance has been investigated. A survey questionnaire was combined with semi-structured interviews of CEOs and R&D managers of seven companies and two commercial research organizations in the seed sector, one agrifood company, one commercial research organization in the agrifood and one commercial research organization in the high-tech sector. Thirty-three innovation alliances were investigated in total. It was found that for companies active in an innovation alliance it is important to understand how prior experiences, IP protection and communication influence the level of trust in an alliance, and that the level of trust is positively related to innovation performance. Recommendations are given for open innovation managers how to make optimal use of the innovation potential of the alliance partner(s), by fostering communication within the alliance and by using formal IP protection arrangements as a platform to create trust within the alliance.

Because of rapid technological progress, shortened production cycles, and fierce competition, fostering team creativity has become an important leadership function. However, few empirical researchers have examined the relationship between a structuring leadership style and team creativity. I surveyed 54 participant teams working in Chinese high-tech enterprises to examine the influence of structuring leadership on team innovation climate and its subsequent effect on team creativity. Results indicated that structuring leadership was positively related to both team innovation climate and team creativity. In addition, the results supported the role of team innovation climate as a mediator in the relationship between structuring leadership and team creativity. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed with regard to the ways in which leaders can enhance team creativity.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of e-business implementation (in terms of internal integration and external diffusion) on organizational performance through the mediating effects of differentiation, enterprise agility, customer relationship development and partner attraction. Design/methodology/approach – A survey of franchisors was conducted across the USA and Spain. Before running the model, the paper tests for measurement invariance across the two country samples. The paper uses structural equation modeling to test the conceptual model. Findings – The results of the measurement invariance suggest that all the constructs supported this characteristic, except for internal integration. External diffusion leads to differentiation, enterprise agility, relationship development and partner attraction for American and Spanish firms. However, internal integration has no impact on any outcome in the USA while, for Spanish firms, it has a positive and direct effect on economic performance. The full mediating role of non-financial performance between external diffusion and organizational performance depends on the country analyzed. While differentiation and relationship development fully mediate this relationship in the US sample, in the Spanish sample, the advantages of external diffusion are transferred through differentiation, enterprise agility and partner attraction. Practical implications –The paper suggests that franchise firms should not focus on the direct effect of e-business implementation on performance. Instead, franchisors should consider that its effect on performance is achieved through greater differentiation, relationship development, enterprise agility and partner attraction. So, the paper suggests that franchisors should think about the long-term effects of the advantages obtained from implementing e-business. Originality/value – This study contributes to IS research by identifying the link between internal integration and external diffusion and organizational performance through the examination of the mediating role of non-financial performance measures in two countries. Compared with previous research, the paper first analyzes measurement invariance across countries to provide unbiased results.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to report the findings of a study that examines the influence of leader–member exchange (LMX) on employees' turnover intention and presenteeism with the mediating role of perceived organizational support in the context of the semiconductor industry.Design/methodology/approachAn empirical study based on a sample of 124 department managers and 241 team members in five high-tech companies in Taiwan. Structural equation modelling analysis was used for hypothesis testing.FindingsThe results reveal that perceived organization support significantly relates to employees' turnover intention and mediates the relationship between LMX and turnover intention. Additionally, employees' presenteeism is influenced by perceived LMX.Practical implicationsThe results of the study are of high importance for high-tech companies, which continuously strive for innovation efficiency and sustainability. Managers and practitioners could benefit from better understanding regarding the importance of perceived organization support and LMX in affecting employee behaviours and company performance.Originality/valueThe present study finds a significant positive relationship between LMX and presenteeism, which is contrary to the previous research.

The purpose of this study is to determine the innovation success in Thai-based High-Tech firms with the help of leader’s behavior and organizational values with the mediating role of innovation process. This was done quantitatively. Sample size was 200 employees who worked in Thai-based high-tech firm. 5-point Likert scale was used employed for data collection and PLS-SEM version 3 was used to analyze the data. The findings of this showed that leadership role and values of the organization play very significant role in ensuring the innovation success through innovation process in Thai-based High-Tech firms.
