In this work, six complexes (2–7) of Cr(III) and Co(II) transition metals with triazole ligands were synthesized and characterized. In addition, a new ligand, 3,5-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)toluene (1), was synthesized and full characterized. The complexes were obtained as air-stable solids and characterized by melting point, electrical conductivity, thermogravimetric analysis, and Raman, infrared and ultraviolet/visible spectroscopy. The analyses and spectral data showed that complexes 3–7 had 1:1 (M:L) stoichiometries and octahedral geometries, while 2 had a 1:2 (M:L) ratio, which was supported by DFT calculations. The complexes and their respective ligands were evaluated against bacterial and fungal strains with clinical relevance. All the complexes showed higher antibacterial and antifungal activities than the free ligands. The complexes were more active against fungi than against bacteria. The activities of the chromium complexes against Candida tropicalis are of great interest, as they showed minimum inhibitory concentration 50 (MIC50) values between 7.8 and 15.6 μg mL−1. Complexes 5 and 6 showed little effect on Vero cells, indicating that they are not cytotoxic. These results can provide an important platform for the design of new compounds with antibacterial and antifungal activities.

In the present study, some novel ferrocene derivatives carrying urea, thiourea, and sulfonamide groups were synthesized, and all compounds were characterized by spectral and elemental analyses. These compounds were screened for their antibacterial activities and also their minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureusandBacillus subtilis) and Gram-negative bacteria (Klebsiella pneumoniaandEscherichia coli) and antifungal activities againstSaccharomyces cerevisiaeandCandida albicans. Amongst the tested compounds,4b,4c,5b, and6bdisplayed excellent antimicrobial activity.

The paper describes a convenient method for the preparation of 4-substituted phenyl-5-[1-(4-fluorophenyl)-1,3-dihydroisobenzofuran-5-yl]-2H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiones. The structures of the synthesized compounds are established by the results of LCMS, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and IR and elemental analyses. The mercaptotriazoles are indicated to be in thione form by 1H NMR spectra. All the synthesized compounds have been screened for antibacterial and antifungal activities. Compounds 12d and 12h exhibit encouraging results, while the remaining compounds show moderate activities. On the basis of spectral studies, formation of 2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazoles from the isobenzofuran acyl thiosemicarbazides 11(a–h) is ruled out.

AbstractAn efficient synthesis of new pyrrolopyrimidinones 3a-d and isoxazolopyrimidinones 4a-c from the respective aminocyanopyrroles 1a-d and aminocyanoisoxazoles 2a-c is presented. The synthesized compounds were screened for antimicrobial activity against a panel of bacteria and fungi. Compound 4c exhibits remarkable activity against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and pathogenic fungi.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in researching and developing new antimicrobial agents from various sources to combat microbial resistance. Apple cider vinegar, otherwise known as cider vinegar or ACV, is a type of vinegar made from cider or apple must and has a pale to medium amber color. Unpasteurized or organic ACV contains mother of vinegar. It has been used for medicinal purpose for thousands of years for its various medicinal properties. The antimicrobial activity of cider vinegar has been recognized but not investigated. It can be used as alternative to commercial antimicrobial agents. The present study aims at finding the antibacterial and antifungal activities of various dilutions of ACV against diverse range of bacteria and fungi to generate data for which little investigation exist.

5-((1, 3-Dioxoisoindolin-2-yl)methyl-2-hydroxybenzohydrazide (1) undergoes facile condensation with aromatic aldehydes to afford the correspondingN'-substituted-phenyl-5-((1,3-dioxoisoindolin-2-yl) methyl)-2-hydroxybenzohydrazide (2a-h) in good yields. Cyclocondensation of compounds (2a-h) with thioglycolic acid yields 5-((1,3-dioxoisoindolin-2-yl) methyl)-2-hydroxy-N-(4-oxo-2-substituted phenylthiazolidin-3-yl)benzamide (3a-h). These (3a-h) compounds were further reacted with benzaldehyde in the presence of sodium ethanolate affords, (Z) –N-(5-benzylidene-4-oxo-2-substituted phenyl-thiazolidin-3-yl)-5-((1,3-dioxoisoindolin-2-yl)methyl)-2-hydroxybenzamdie(4a-h). The structures of these compounds were established on the basis of analytical and spectral data. All the newly synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antibacterial and antifungal activities.

Abstract In this study the antibacterial and antifungal activities of extracted Achillea latiloba Ledeb. ex Nordm (Asteraceae) samples in acetone, ethyl acetate, ethanol, methanol and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) from Trabzon Province (Turkey) were investigated. Antimicrobial activity of A. latiloba varied depending on the extract of samples, dosage of extracts, and the extraction solvents for all test microorganisms. Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus salivarius, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Salmonella enteritidis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Bacillus cereus, Listeria monocytogenes, Streptococcus mutans, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus licheniformis, Micrococcus luteus, Bacillus subtillis, Proteus vulgaris and Candida albicans were studied with use of disc diffusion and agar dilution method. The results indicated that each of the crude extracts of Achillea latiloba exhibited a more or less pronounced antibacterial and antifungal potency both in Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and fungi. While in the Gram-negative group, the most sensitive microorganism to Achillea latiloba were S. enteritidis and Streptococcus mutans which is Gram-positive. In the Gram-positive group, the microorganisms most sensitive to Achillea latiloba were Streptococcus mutans and L. monocytogenes. However, the least sensitive microorganism was P. vulgaris. The results presented in this paper suggest that Achillea latiloba possesses additional antimicrobial activities that has an effect against some Gram-negative, Gram-positive bacteria and fungi.
