In this study a standardized method for objectively comparing the antibacterial activity of honey was developed. The assay was performed using a strain of S. aureus and four honeys that have been shown antibacterial activity against this strain. The antibacterial activity of honeys were checked by using an agar plate diffusion method using S. aureus (ATCC 29213) as the test organism. On the surface of each agar plate six stainless steel cylinders with a diameter of 8,14 mm were radially disposed. Onto each cylinder 0,1 mL of sample honey at 10% v/v was placed and all Petri dishes were incubated at 35°C during 24 h. Each sample were analyzed by triplicate. The surface of the cylinder diameter was set as reference antibacterial activity equivalent to minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC). The antibacterial activity of each honey was quantitated by the relationship between the surface of the inhibitory zone and the surface of the reference activity expressed as multiples of MIC (x MIC). The method allowed establishing differences between the bacterial activities of the different honeys tested and could be used for identifying honeys that could be employed with medicinal purpose for the treatments of wounds.

Abstract Macrofungi is one of bio-medicinal sources containing various bioactive compounds, such as β-glucans, which are scientifically proven as immunity booster against coronavirus, including Covid-19. Lawu Mountain Forest has been reported as one of the macro fungi-rich ecosystems in Java. Due to its unique geography, each side of the mountain has a different climate with the southern slope is typically more suitable for various species of mushroom to grow. The aims of this study were to assess fungal diversity in the southern slope of Lawu Mountain Forest, and to ascertain their potential uses for medicinal purpose, particularly for boosting immunity against Covid-19. Cruise method was used to identify macroscopic fungi collected along the hiking trail of Lawu Mountain Forest at the elevation ranges of 1800- 3100 m asl. Their morphological characteristics, including color, diameter, veil surface, lamella (ring and pore, type of lamella, and volva), stem shape, length and diameter, were observed. The study found 46 species from 15 families of macrofungi. Seven species potentially containing bioactive compounds as immunomodulator for boosting immunity were Auricularia auricula, Cerrena unicolor, Lentinus edodes, Pleuretus ostreatus, Stereum hirsutum, Schizophyllum commune, Trametes versicolor.

Surveys of medicinal plants and fungi among five indigenous groups in Roraima, Brazil, were identified in the 1990s but not published.  Most of the 52 species reported here were unknown in the literature for the same medicinal purpose when the data were collected, but 25 years later this has changed. Some of the ‘repeated’ data were collected in Roraima, but most were recorded elsewhere. It is likely that some of the traditional knowledge will have been lost by now, with old informants not passing their knowledge to younger generations. More work should be done on recording indigenous knowledge in Roraima, preferably by indigenous people. Efforts to recuperate traditional knowledge will benefit indigenous culture health and livelihoods.

The Adriatic islands in Croatia, usually divided into two archipelagos – the Kvarner and Dalmatian islands – is one of the largest groups of islands in Europe. Over 40 islands are still inhabited. Unfortunately the traditional use of medicinal plants was never properly documented there. Our data comes from 343 interviews carried out in 36 islands, including the 15 largest islands of the archipelago. The medicinal plants are mainly used to make herbal infusions or decoctions, occasionally medicinal liqueurs, syrups, compresses, or juices squeezed out of raw plants. We recorded the use of 146 taxa, among them 131 with at least one medicinal purpose and 15 only for tea. The frequency curve of use is relatively steep – several plants are used very frequently and most are reported only by one or two informants, which can be explained both by the large geographical spread of the area, and even more so by the devolution of local knowledge and disappearance of gathering practices due to specialization in tourism, modernization and depopulation. Most of the gathered plants already occur in ancient and medieval herbals and are a part of the pan-Mediterranean pharmacopoeia.

Introduction: Garlic is an important crop growing all around the globe for its nutritional and medicinal purpose. Due to climate change soil production of garlic is affected and thus lower in yield. For improving the yield and increasing the quality of vegetables a new technique was developed is called hydroponic technology. Review results: In hydroponic, garlic can be produced on condition basis by providing proper nutrition and growth environment including air, light, soilless mediums, and water requirements. Methods like deep water culture, nutrient film technique, drip irrigation, bubble ponics are very common under different soilless mediums which includes organic, inorganic and synthetic. A detailed overview on production technology, nutrition, medium and hydroponic techniques which are discussed in details are given below in this review.

Traditional medicine has remained as the most affordable and early accessible source of treatment in the primary healthcare system of resource. Medical Practitioners are in Puthia Upazila of Rajshahi District of Bangladesh. The medical practitioners have a long history of traditional plant usage for medicinal purpose. The present research on Traditional knowledge and formulation on medicinal plant use by the medical practitioners in Puthia Upazila of Rajshahi district of Bangladesh was recorded. Frequent field trips were made during January 2018 to December 2018 to record medico-botanical data by interviewing medical practitioners of various age groups, mostly ranging between 20 to 76 years, including medicinal healers (herbalists/hakims). A total of 127 plant species under 105 genera of 66 families have been documented which are used for the treatment of 96 categories ailments. For each species scientific name, local name, habit, family, ailments to be treated, mode of treatment and part(s) used are provided. The phytochemical analysis and pharmacological investigations of traditional medicinally important plants by taking in view their proper conservation too, would help in developing novel drugs to treat ailments.
