A new, simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method in ultraviolet region has been developed for the determination of duloxetine hydrochloride in bulk and in pharmaceutical formulations. Duloxetine hydrochloride exhibits absorption maxima at 288 nm with apparent molar absorptivity of 0.97x104L/mol.cm in 0.1 N HCL. Beer's law was found to be obeyed in the concentration range of 5-30 μg/mL. The method is accurate, precise and economical. The proposed method has been applied successfully for the analysis of the drug in pure and in its capsule dosage forms. In this method, there is no interference from any common pharmaceutical additives and diluents. Results of the analysis were validated statistically and by recovery studies.

A simple, rapid and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of captopril in aqueous solution. The method is based on reaction of captopril with 2,3-dichloro 1,4- naphthoquinon(Dichlone) in neutral medium to form a stable yellow colored product which shows maximum absorption at 347 nm with molar absorptivity of 5.6 ×103 L.mole-1. cm-1. The proposed method is applied successfully for determination of captopril in commercial pharmaceutical tablets.

Abstract A selective and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been suggested for the quantitative assay of atenolol (ATNL) as pure and in its manufactural formulation(Tablet). The suggested procedure included oxidation of ATNL with an excess quantity of the oxidant N-bromosuccinimide (NBS), and then the excess of NBS was occupied in bleaching the color of methyl red dye(MRD), then measuring the absorbance of remaining MRD at 518 nm. The absorbance of the unbleached color of MRD corresponds to the ATNL concentration in the sample solution. Beer’s law was followed in the range of 0.1-2.0 μg.ml−1with molar absorptivity value equal to 8.8864x104 l.mol−1. cm−1. The suggested method was applied to the assay of ATNL in commercial tablets, with satisfactory results.

Abstract The formation of a red complex between boron and the quinalizarin reagent was investigated and used as the basis for a simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method for boron in date cultivars. At 620 nm, the absorbance was linear (r= 0.999) over the 0.25-2.5 μg/mL concentration range. The molar absorptivity was found to be 2.23 x 103mol-1cm-1 and the relative standard deviation for 10 replicates (1.0 μg/mL) was 0.97%.

A simple, sensitive spectrophotometric method for the determination of Famciclovir and Racecodotril is developed. It is based on the formation of a colored oxidative coupling product between 2,6-dichloroquinone-chlorimide and the drug is described. The method has been extended to pharmaceutical preparations. The absorption maxima and Beer’s law limits for Famciclovir are 500 nm, 20-100 µg/mL and for Racecodotril are 460 nm, 12.5-62.5 µg/mL.

A spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of Fe(III) using 2-Hydroxy-1-Naphthalene carboxaldehyde phenyl hydrazone as an extractive reagent. The reagent forms a coloured complex, which has been quantitatively extracted into ethyl acetate at pH 6. The method obeys Beer’s law over arrange from 1 to 7 ppm. The Molar absorptivity and Sandell’s sensitivity were 0.31 × 104 L mol-1cm-1 and 0.13 μg cm-2 respectively. The proposed method is very sensitive and selective. The method has been successfully applied to synthetic and commercial samples.

Abstract A simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method is suggested for analysis of 3 antihistaminic drugs, acrivastine (I), mequitazine (II), and dimethindene maleate (III). The method is based on reaction of the drugs with 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) in acetonitrile to form highly stable colored products that are measured at 750, 766, and 844 nm for I and II, and 480 and 618 nm for III. Beer's law is obeyed in the ranges of 560 g/mL for I, 550 g/mL for II, and 1070 g/mL for III. The optimum assay conditions and their applicability to the determination of the cited drugs in pharmaceutical formulations are described. The method is statistically analyzed as compared with the European Pharmacopoeia (2001) method for the analysis of dimethindene maleate and reference methods for acrivastine and mequitazine drugs revealing good accuracy and precision.

A rapid, simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of metronidazole in pharmaceutical pure and dosage forms. The method depends on alkaline hydrolysis of metronidazole releases the nitro group as nitrite ion and yielded nitrite ions can be used to give a colored complex that absorbs maximally at 505 nm. Beer’s law is obeyed in the concentration ranges 9-100 mg/ml with molar absorptivity of 1.14 ×103 L mole-1 cm-1. The proposed method is precise, accurate and specific for the quantitative determination of drug in bulk and dosage forms. The results of analysis of commercial formulations and the recovery study of metronidazole suggested that there is no interference from any excipients, which are present in pharmaceutical formulations of metronidazole. Statistical comparison of the results was performed with regard to accuracy and precision using student’s t-test and F-ratio at 95% confidence level. There is no significant difference between the reported and proposed methods with regard to accuracy and precision.

Objective: To develop and validate simple, sensitive, precise and free of organic solvents method for the determination of sildenafil (SIL) and vardenafil (VAR) in bulk and pharmaceutical formulation. Methods: The method is based on the reaction of studied drugs with a mixture of potassium iodide and potassium iodate in an aqueous medium at (25±2 °C) to form yellow coloured triiodide ions (I3-) within 45 min. The reaction is followed spectrophotometrically by measuring the absorbance at 288, 351 nm and 285, 351 nm for sildenafil and vardenafil respectively. Results: The effects of analytical parameters on the reported systems were investigated. Beer's law of SIL was obeyed in the range of (0.4-12) μg ml-1and (0.6-16) μg ml-1. Molar absorptivity was found to be (67.659 ×103) lmol/cmand (37.955×103) lmol/cm at 288 nm, 351 nm respectively. Beer's law of VAR was obeyed in the range of (0.2-13) μg/mland (0.5-40) μg/ml. Moreover, molar absorptivity’s were found to be (68.719 ×103) l mol-1 cm-1and (26.691×103) l mol-1 cm-1 at 285 nm, 351 nm respectively. Conclusion: The proposed method has been applied to determine the components in dosage forms with an average recovery of 98.15% to 103.45% and the results have been found in good agreement with those results obtained by the reference methods.
