This paper is devoted to new optical methods, which are supposed to be used for liveness detection on fingers. First we describe the basics about fake finger use in fingerprint recognition process and the possibilities of liveness detection. Then we continue with introducing three new liveness detection methods, which we developed and tested in the scope of our research activities—the first one is based on measurement of the pulse, the second one on variations of optical characteristics caused by pressure change, and the last one is based on reaction of skin to illumination with different wavelengths. The last part deals with the influence of skin diseases on fingerprint recognition, especially on liveness detection.

Purpose Biometric systems are widely used for face recognition. They have rapidly developed in recent years. Compared with other approaches, such as fingerprint recognition, handwriting verification and retinal and iris scanning, face recognition is more straightforward, user friendly and extensively used. The aforementioned approaches, including face recognition, are vulnerable to malicious attacks by impostors; in such cases, face liveness detection comes in handy to ensure both accuracy and robustness. Liveness is an important feature that reflects physiological signs and differentiates artificial from real biometric traits. This paper aims to provide a simple path for the future development of more robust and accurate liveness detection approaches. Design/methodology/approach This paper discusses about introduction to the face biometric system, liveness detection in face recognition system and comparisons between the different discussed works of existing measures. Originality/value This paper presents an overview, comparison and discussion of proposed face liveness detection methods to provide a reference for the future development of more robust and accurate liveness detection approaches.

The Japanese government introduced a labeling system for genetically modified (GM) foods. To ensure the authenticity of the labeling system, we have developed and validated detection methods for newly approved GM events. One was the development of quantitative analytical methods utilizing plasmid DNAs as calibrators, which enabled us to obtain an unlimited supply of calibrators of consistent quality and also to obtain a stable standard curve to quantify GM organisms (GMOs) in samples. The significance of quality control has been recognized among relevant stakeholders, and in response we launched a project to distribute certified reference materials (CRMs) to the users of our methods for the purpose of internal quality control. In addition to these activities, we have developed time- and cost-effective detection methods, such as a new screening method to simultaneously detect the sequence of Cauliflower mosaic virus 35S promoter (p35S) and the construct-specific sequence of GA21 event utilizing multiplex real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). We also developed a qualitative nonaplex PCR detection method, which allows the simultaneous detection of eight events of GM maize lines. Because the influx of any unapproved and unknown GMOs into the Japanese market is not permitted, we continue to explore this issue.

There is a high risk of insulation system dielectric instability when partial discharge (PD) occurs. Therefore, measurement and monitoring of PD is an important preventive tool to safeguard high-voltage equipment from wanton damage. PD can be detected using optical method to increase the detection threshold and to improve the performance of on-line measurement of PD in noise environment. The PD emitted energy as acoustic emission. We can use this emitted energy to detect PD signal. The best method to detect PD in power transformer is by using acoustic emission. Optical sensor has some advantages such as; high sensitivity, more accuracy small size. Furthermore, in on-site measurements and laboratory experiments, it isoptical methodthat gives very moderate signal attenuations. This paper reviews the available PD detection methods (involving high voltage equipment) such as; acoustic detection and optical detection. The advantages and disadvantages of each method have been explored and compared. The review suggests that optical detection techniques provide many advantages from the consideration of accuracy and suitability for the applications when compared to other techniques.

Multimodal Biometric Authentication has been used as more security purpose for establishing the user Identification, Authentication and Verification purpose. Multimodal Biometric like Fingerprint and iris are used in this research work for authentication purpose using Matlab simulation. Fingerprint recognition process like Image Enhancement, binarization, Segmentation, thinning, Minutia marking, and Matching are performed with various techniques like Histogram Equalization, Adaptive Binarization, Morphological operations, Minutiae based techniques etc.,Iris recognition process like Segmentation, Normalization, Encoding and Matching are performed with various techniques like Canny edge detection, Daughman’s Rubber sheet model, Hamming Distance etc., can be applied for Fingerprint and iris recognition for authentication purpose. Finally Performance the measure of Precision, Recall, F-Score and Accuracy has evaluated in both fingerprint and iris. It can be concluded Iris Accuracy is higher 0.96% compared with fingerprint accuracy 0.81%.

There are many people who suffer from some of the skin diseases. These diseases have a strong influence on the process of fingerprint recognition. People with fingerprint diseases are unable to use fingerprint scanners, which is discriminating for them, since they are not allowed to use their fingerprints for the authentication purposes. First in this paper the various diseases, which might influence functionality of the fingerprint-based systems, are introduced, mainly from the medical point of view. This overview is followed by some examples of diseased finger fingerprints, acquired both from dactyloscopic card and electronic sensors. At the end of this paper the proposed fingerprint image enhancement algorithm is described.

Fingerprint recognition schemas are widely used in our daily life, such as Door Security, Identification, and Phone Verification. However, the existing problem is that fingerprint recognition systems are easily tricked by fake fingerprints for collaboration. Therefore, designing a fingerprint liveness detection module in fingerprint recognition systems is necessary. To solve the above problem and discriminate true fingerprint from fake ones, a novel software-based liveness detection approach using uniform local binary pattern (ULBP) in spatial pyramid is applied to recognize fingerprint liveness in this paper. Firstly, preprocessing operation for each fingerprint is necessary. Then, to solve image rotation and scale invariance, three-layer spatial pyramids of fingerprints are introduced in this paper. Next, texture information for three layers spatial pyramids is described by using uniform local binary pattern to extract features of given fingerprints. The accuracy of our proposed method has been compared with several state-of-the-art methods in fingerprint liveness detection. Experiments based on standard databases, taken from Liveness Detection Competition 2013 composed of four different fingerprint sensors, have been carried out. Finally, classifier model based on extracted features is trained using SVM classifier. Experimental results present that our proposed method can achieve high recognition accuracy compared with other methods.

With the advancement of data society today, pictures have turned out to be increasingly imperative. Automatic detection of human skin has been an area of active research for the past few years. Human skin detection assumes a vital job in a wide scope of picture preparing applications going from face detection, steganography, face tracking, age detection, discover pornographic images, the discovery of skin diseases gesture analysis and substance based picture recovery frameworks and to different human PC association spaces. Detecting human skin in complex pictures have ended up being a difficult issue since skin shading can fluctuate drastically in its appearance because of numerous variables, for example, illumination, race, maturing, imaging conditions, and complex foundation. In this study, we will study and analyze skin researches, where we will treat the weakness of previous research of survey on human skin detection methods. The reason for this investigation is to give a state-of-the-art study on human skin molding and detection methods in 1998-2019 periods. Furthermore, this research presented the statistical study for each issue stated before. We finish up with a few ramifications for a future course. Study results will benefit all researchers who are interested in human skin detection topic.

India has a rich source of tropical fruits containing edible seeds such as chia, hemp, sesame, pumkin, sunflower, mustard, nigella, guava, papaya, mangosteen, honeydew, pomegranate, fennel, fenugreek, cumin, sweet orange, cucumber, jackfruit, mango, melons, avocado and many more. These products such as the seed kernel, which constitutes about 10–35% of the weight, offer high nutritional value and therapeutic applications. This article explores the nutritional, medicinal, therapeutic applications, functional properties and bioactive constituents of the seeds of some fruits, which are analyzed for their functions and applications as sources of food value and bioactive phytochemical constituents. The seeds contain essential bioactive components such as alkaloids, carotenoids, flavonoids, glycosides, saponins, terpenoids, tannins, steroids and polyphenolic compounds and that exhibit excellent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant properties, anticancer, anti-diabetic, anti-hyperlipidemic, anti-obesity, neurological disorders, cardiovascular, skin diseases and chronic diseases. They have remarkable physicochemical properties and a high content of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals. However extensive research activities can be carried out to determine the efficacy of the nutritional and bioactive components in different seed types, the bioavailability and potency. Extensive research with the seed parts can be investigated to identify the medicinal and functional potentials of these fruit seeds. This review gives an overview on the therapeutic applications and functional properties of seeds present in fruits, vegetables and medicinal plants. The medicinal and nutritional value, phytochemical composition, bioactive phytoconstituents, therapeutic activity, therapeutic applications and uses, proximate analysis, functional properties, analytical methods, spectroscopic methods and human clinical trials of some edible seeds are discussed in this review.
