This paper presents a comparison of on-body performances between omnidirectional (loop antenna) and reconfigurable beam-steering antennas. Both omnidirectional and reconfigurable antennas were manufactured on the same fabric substrate and operated at the frequency band of the WLAN 802.11a (5.725–5.85 GHz). The reconfigurable antenna was designed to steer the beam directions. In order to implement the beam-steering capability, the antenna used two PIN diodes. The maximum beam directions of three states (states 0, 1, and 2) were steerable in theYZ-plane (h=2°, 28°, and 326°, resp.). The measured peak gains were 5.9–6.6 dBi and the overall half power beam width (HPBW) was 102°. The measured results of total radiated power (TRP) and total isotropic sensitivity (TIS) indicated that the communication efficiency of the reconfigurable beam steering antenna was better than that of the loop antenna. When the input power was 0.04 W (16 dBm), the simulated specific absorption rate (SAR) values of the reconfigurable beam steering antenna on the body were less than 0.979 W/kg (1 g tissue) in all states, satisfying the SAR criteria of the US.

In this paper, we propose a bi-directional loop antenna array using magic cube origami. The proposed antenna array consists of three one-wavelength loop antenna elements with series feeding. Each loop antenna is realized on a single magic cube, and three cubes are connected in series to form the array. The three cubes can be easily folded and unfolded due to being constructed in the form of a magic cube origami. Antenna volume can be minimized for high mobility by folding the array, which radiates a bi-directional pattern with full volume when unfolded. The proposed antenna was designed at 1.39 GHz. When the single antenna is realized on the single cube, the peak gain is 4.03 dBi. The peak gain increased to 5.2 and 5.53 dBi with two and three antennas, respectively. Half-power beam width (HPBW) with three antenna elements decreased to 40° from 360° compared to the HPBW with the single antenna. The proposed antenna performance was assessed numerically and experimentally.

In order to evaluate the performance of mutual fund industry in various financial markets a wide variety of researches have been conducted, which lead to different results. As Pakistani mutual fund industry is much younger as compared to the US and UK fund industries and thus limited work has been done to evaluate Pakistani mutual fund industry. Over the past few years the industry had showed a phenomenal growth and it makes it worthwhile to study the performance of mutual funds. The aim of this research study is to validate the Fama French 3-Factor Model and Carhart 4-Factor Model. Also this research attempts to test that which one of the included model performs better than the other so as to check there preferred suitability in measuring and evaluating the mutual fund performance in Pakistan. The monthly data of 323 open ended mutual funds for the period of 2008 to 2018 is analyzed. The GRS model validation test was applied, the results of the test found that the Carhart 4-Factor Model performed much better than the Fama French 3-Factor Model and from the CAPM as well. This research contributes to the body of knowledge by providing academicians and practitioners more knowledge regarding multifactor asset pricing model so as to make better investment decisions. Keywords: Mutual funds, performance evaluation, CAPM, Fama-French 3- factor model, Carhart 4-factor model

Simple internal multiband monopole antenna with low specific absorption rate (SAR) for most wireless communication applications is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna is an unequal arms monopole antenna with a meander stripoin the other substrate side. The antenna has a simple structure and it is sufficiently small in size to be easily fitted on the housing of a mobile phone or a universal serial bus (USB) dongle with size 20 × 50 × 0.8 mm3. The antenna is designed to operate in different bands to cover most of allocated wireless communication bands in the frequency range from 0.9 to 6 GHz. The proposed antenna has an acceptable average gain of about 2.75 dBi and an average efficiency of about 85% while providing a monopole radiation pattern in both horizontal and elevation planes, with average half-power beam width of 65° in the elevation plane. The simulation and the experimental results of the antenna are in agreement. The SAR in the human head is investigated by using CST 2012 Microwave Studio Hugo Voxel Model.

Wide beam and low axial ratio performance of printed quadrifilar antennas result in very attractive circularly polarised radiating element for wide scanned Electronically Steered Antenna. A compact printed quadrifilar Helix antenna (PQHA) has been designed and realised at S-Band frequency. Simulation and optimisation of designed antenna has been performed using ANSYS’s high frequency structure simulation (HFSS) software for its impedance, axial ratio (AR) performance and radiation characteristics. The developed circularly polarised antenna has 3-dB beam width of 130° and peak gain of 3.4dBic at 2.6 GHz. The developed antenna shows excellent AR performance over the frequency band as well as over the radiated beam. Half power axial ratio bandwidth of developed antenna is 27.4% (2.2 GHz - 2.9 GHz) while the impedance bandwidth is 32% (2.1 GHz - 2.9 GHz). Design has been validated through measured results. Designed wide band PQHA can be used as radiating element for electronically steered antenna for large beam steering application.

In this study, a novel implantable dual-band planar inverted F-antenna (PIFA) is proposed and designed for wireless biotelemetry. The developed antenna is intended to operate on the surface of the pancreas within the Medical Device Radiocommunications Service (MedRadio 401–406 MHz) and the industrial scientific and medical band (ISM, 2.4–2.5 GHz). The design analysis was carried out in two steps, initially inside a canonical model representing the pancreas, based on a finite element method (FEM) numerical solver. The proposed antenna was further simulated inside the human body taking into account the corresponding dimensions of the tissues and the electrical properties at the frequencies of interest using a finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) numerical solver. Resonance, radiation performance, electrical field attenuation, total radiated power, and specific absorption rate (SAR), which determines the safety of the patient and the maximum permissible input power and other electromagnetic parameters, are presented and evaluated.

A new design of the antenna array for mobile base stations providing two orthogonal polarizations in 1.71-2.17GHz frequency band is proposed. The antenna array includes 16 radiators, 12 power dividers and two phase shifters disposed on a metal reflector having dimensions 320×1387 mm. The developed antenna array contains less radiators and power dividers than other known antennas of this kind therefore one is cheaper for production. The fabricated sample of the proposed antenna array has return loss is better than -18.5dB and isolation better than 33dB. Beam width in the horizontal plane is equal 36 ± 4 degrees and side lobes level doesn’t exceeding -20dB. The antenna array provides gain=20.5dBi.

Abstract Background Total brachial plexus palsy (TBPP) accounts for nearly 50% of all brachial plexus injuries. Since achieving a good functional hand was almost impossible, the aim was settled to get a good shoulder and elbow function. It was Gu, who popularized the concept of utilizing contralateral C7 (CC7) with vascularized ulnar nerve graft (VUNG) to get some hand function. We have modified it to suit our patients by conducting it as a single-stage procedure, thereby trying to get a functional upper limb. Methods From 2009 to 2014, we had 20 TBPP patients. We feel nerve reconstruction is always better than any other salvage procedure, including free muscle transfer. We modified Gu's concept and present our concept of total nerve reconstruction as “ALL IN ONE OR (W)HOLE IN ONE REPAIR.” Results All patients able to move their reconstructed limbs independently or with the help of contralateral limbs. Three patients developed hook grip and one patient was able to incorporate limbs to do bimanual jobs. One important observation is that all the reconstructed limbs regain the bulk, and to a certain extent, the attitude and appearance looks normal, as patients no longer hide it or hang it in a sling. Conclusion Adult brachial plexus injury itself is a devastating injury affecting young males. By doing this procedure, the affected limb is not dissociated from the rest of the body and rehabilitation can be aimed to get a supportive limb.
