To broaden the application of the basalt fiber in the preventive maintenance of asphalt pavement, this study investigated the bonding performance and evaluated the comprehensive performance of the basalt fiber asphalt macadam seal. Firstly, different types of basalt fiber asphalt macadam seal were prepared. The influences of content and length of the basalt fiber and dosage of emulsified asphalt on the bonding performance of the asphalt macadam seal were analyzed and compared. Next, by using the efficacy coefficient method, comprehensive performance considering both mechanical and economic characteristics of the basalt fiber asphalt macadam seal was evaluated. After that, reasonable content of each material was determined. Finally, the strengthening mechanism of the fiber on the bonding performance of macadam seals was revealed from a microscopic view. The results showed that compared with the ordinary asphalt macadam seal, the loss aggregate rate of the basalt fiber asphalt macadam seal was 11.0–30.5% lower, and the pull-out strength, shear strength, and torsional shear strength were 11.7–16.3%, 9.7–22.4%, and 4.2–20.6% higher, respectively. Considering the bonding performance and economic benefits, the optimal amount of emulsified asphalt and basalt fiber was 1.6 kg/m2 and 70 g/m2, respectively. Basalt fiber increased the cohesion of the asphalt material and improved the bonding performance of asphalt macadam seals through formation of the three-dimensional network structure. This study can provide reference to the application of basalt fibers in asphalt pavement maintenance.

Through the pull-out test methods, the concrete strength、reinforcement diameter Basalt Fiber Reinforced Plastics Bars、the anchorage length、 stirrup rate and other factors on the bonding properties of the BFRP reinforced concrete is analyzed. The BFRP bars and reinforcing steel bars bonding properties is compared. BFRP reinforced concrete bond failure mode has two types .As the concrete strength increases, the bond strength of the BFRP reinforced concrete increased. With the increase BFRP bars diameter and shear lag relationship, the cohesive force of the BFRP reinforced concrete decrease accordingly. And the failure modes of the shape of the BFRP reinforcement concrete in BFRP bonding properties with a big impact for the specimens’ configuration stirrups on the ductility. When BFRP bars loading under the same load level, the end of the slip is greater than the free end slip.

Micro-surfacing (MS), made of emulsified asphalt, is the most commonly used preventive maintenance technology in asphalt pavement. However, the studies on profile features of MS based on aggregate morphology are few. This study evaluated the profile features of MS and its effect on skid resistance. The aggregate morphologies were first characterized and modified emulsified asphalt was prepared. The three-dimensional profile features of four kinds of MS samples were captured by laser texture scanner. Results illustrate that steel slag aggregate can be used to enhance the skid resistance of pavement surface and bring about larger profile indexes than basalt and limestone due to its angularity index and flatness values. Further aging of steel slag to eliminate free calcium oxide (f-CaO) is recommended before being used in pavement surface layer.

The main objective of this research is to establish a connection between orthodontic mini-implant design, pull-out force and primary stability by comparing two commercial mini-implants or temporary anchorage devices, Tomas®-pin and Perfect Anchor. Mini-implant geometric analysis and quantification of bone characteristics are performed, whereupon experimental in vitro pull-out test is conducted. With the use of the CATIA (Computer Aided Three-dimensional Interactive Application) CAD (Computer Aided Design)/CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing)/CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) system, 3D (Three-dimensional) geometric models of mini-implants and bone segments are created. Afterwards, those same models are imported into Abaqus software, where finite element models are generated with a special focus on material properties, boundary conditions and interactions. FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis is used to simulate the pull-out test. Then, the results of the structural analysis are compared with the experimental results. The FEM analysis results contain information about maximum stresses on implant–bone system caused due to the pull-out force. It is determined that the core diameter of a screw thread and conicity are the main factors of the mini-implant design that have a direct impact on primary stability. Additionally, stresses generated on the Tomas®-pin model are lower than stresses on Perfect Anchor, even though Tomas®-pin endures greater pull-out forces, the implant system with implemented Tomas®-pin still represents a more stressed system due to the uniform distribution of stresses with bigger values.

Abstract Although Cu–Al2O3 composites have good comprehensive performance, higher mechanical properties and arc erosion resistance are still required to meet heavy-duty applications such as electromagnetic railguns. In this work, a novel hybrid SiCw/Cu–Al2O3 composite was successfully prepared by combining powder metallurgy and internal oxidation. The microstructure and mechanical behavior of the SiCw/Cu–Al2O3 composite were studied. The results show that nano-Al2O3 particles and micro-SiCw are introduced into the copper matrix simultaneously. Well-bonded interfaces between copper matrix and Al2O3 particles or SiCw are obtained with improved mechanical and arc erosion resistance of SiCw/Cu–Al2O3 composite. The ultimate tensile strength of the SiCw/Cu–Al2O3 composite is 508.9 MPa, which is 7.9 and 56.1% higher than that of the Cu–Al2O3 composite and SiCw/Cu composite, respectively. The strengthening mechanism calculation shows that Orowan strengthening is the main strengthening mechanism of the SiCw/Cu–Al2O3 composite. Compared with Cu–Al2O3 composite, the hybrid SiCw/Cu–Al2O3 composite has lower arc time and energy and better arc stability.

This paper describes the laboratory measurement of shear interface properties between asphalt pavement and concrete bridge deck using the shear test. The main factors affecting shear strength are interface frictional resistance and adhesive stress from material of waterproof layer. Firstly, we simplify the whole system by considering the asphalt pavement as an elastic layer and the cement concrete deck a rigid base. And make a sensitivity analysis on interface contact state and the material modulus of waterproof layer. The maximum shear stress increases as interface contact state changes from continuous to smooth and as modulus of waterproof layer material decreases. Secondly, an interface shear experiment is conducted with the application of portable shear apparatus. With interface shear strength as evaluation indicator, shear strength of different interface treatments is arranged in descending order, i.e. cleaning up laitance and spreading aggregate between layers; only cleaning-up laitance; leaving the surface untreated. While the descending order for shear strength of different waterproof materials can be listed as follows: SBS modified asphalt, penetration grade of 70 asphalt. Therefore, based on the laboratory test results, it is recommended that before applying waterproof adhesive layer, laitance and dust on concrete deck surface should be cleaned up and keeping it dry. And the material for waterproof adhesive layer should be SBS modified asphalt with one-size aggregate of 4.75mm-9.5 mm spreading on.

With modern economic and social development, the technical and economic requirements of highway maintenance and construction projects have become increasingly complicated. Meticulous and in-depth investigation and demonstration guided by scientific theories and methods are of considerable importance to highway maintenance scheme decision. As basis for the selection of highway asphalt pavement recycling maintenance scheme, the factors influencing the decision are analytically demonstrated and an evaluation system is proposed, including three major decision indexes: applicability of recycling mode, recycled pavement quality recovery index, and economic benefit. According to the principles of data statistics and analysis, this study proposes a calculation method for the recycled pavement quality recovery index, analyzes the economic benefits of decision schemes using economic models such as recycling ratio and cost, and puts forward an optimal evaluation method of engineering cost and its fuzzy score intervals. Index weights are calculated through the analytic hierarchy process, and the comprehensive decision evaluation system and comprehensive evaluation method are established. Subsequently, the decision-making method is analyzed on the basis of the decision system by combining the related data. Results show maximum weight of the pavement quality recovery index and minor differences among four recycling schemes in the quality recovery index and applicability. The decision-making results are simplified with clear hierarchical feature because of the fuzzy score intervals of each index. Findings can provide a reference for the asphalt pavement recycling scheme decision.
