This paper adopts an environmental data envelopment analysis (DEA) model containing pollution emissions to measure the environmental efficiency of node cities in the Chinese section of Silk Road Economic Zone (SREZ) in 2011–2020 and verifies the convergence of the environmental efficiency. The results show that the ten node cities had an overall low environmental efficiency and a large gap in environmental efficiency, highlighting the necessity of cross-regional cooperation in emission reduction and the promotion of environmental technologies between regions; the environmental efficiency gaps between node cities and between the three regions started to narrow in 2016 and 2018, respectively, showing a certain convergence trend. In addition, the Tobit model was called to analyze the factors affecting environmental efficiency, revealing that per-capita gross domestic product (GDP), foreign trade, and population density promote environmental efficiency, while the proportion of the secondary industry, number of authorized patents, and regional feature significantly suppresses environmental efficiency. Finally, several suggestions were provided to reduce regional pollution emissions and increase China’s environmental efficiency, according to the results of empirical analysis.

PurposeA multicentre prospective cohort study, known as the Chinese Pregnant Women Cohort Study (CPWCS), was established in 2017 to collect exposure data during pregnancy (except environmental exposure) and analyse the relationship between lifestyle during pregnancy and obstetric outcomes. Data about mothers and their children’s life and health as well as children’s laboratory testing will be collected during the offspring follow-up of CPWCS, which will enable us to further investigate the longitudinal relationship between exposure in different periods (during pregnancy and childhood) and children’s development.Participants9193 pregnant women in 24 hospitals in China who were in their first trimester (5–13 weeks gestational age) from 25 July 2017 to 26 November 2018 were included in CPWCS by convenience sampling. Five hospitals in China which participated in CPWCS with good cooperation will be selected as the sample source for the Chinese Pregnant Women Cohort Study (Offspring Follow-up) (CPWCS-OF).Findings to dateSome factors affecting pregnancy outcomes and health problems during pregnancy have been discovered through data analysis. The details are discussed in the ‘Findings to date’ section.Future plansInfants and children and their mothers who meet the criteria will be enrolled in the study and will be followed up every 2 years. AbstractHigh-tech industrial agglomeration is conducive to boosting technological progress, promoting industrial structure upgrading and realizing economic transformation, and certainly affects the overall industrial environmental efficiency. However, few recent studies have focused on its impact on industrial environmental efficiency from a green perspective. In the context of promoting the development of green economy, it is of great significance to clarify the links between high-tech industrial agglomeration and industrial environmental efficiency. In this research, we first analyzed the theoretical mechanism of the impact of high-tech industrial agglomeration and its spatial spillover effects on industrial environmental efficiency and then made an empirical analysis based on the panel data of 29 provinces and cities in China from 2003 to 2016. During the research, Super-DEA method, ESDA method and spatial Dubin model are used. The result shows that: (1) There is a significant spatial positive correlation between China's industrial environmental efficiency and high-tech industrial agglomeration; (2) high-tech industrial agglomeration has improved the local industrial productivity and industrial technology level through scale effects and technical effects, which has accordingly significantly enhanced the corresponding environmental efficiency; (3) through the association of regional industries, the cross-regional cooperation of enterprises and the formation of innovation networks, high-tech industrial agglomeration promotes the spillover of knowledge and technology among regions, improves the level of industrial technology in neighboring regions, and enhances the industrial environmental efficiency in neighboring regions. All these three is helpful to re-evaluate the development mode of high-tech industry agglomeration and to formulate relevant government policies.

Abstract Background The purpose of this study, mosquito forecast system implemented by Seoul Metropolitan city, was to obtain the mosquito prediction formula by using the mosquito population data and the environmental data of the past. Results For this study, the mosquito population data from April 1, 2015, to October 31, 2017, were collected. The mosquito population data were collected from the 50 smart mosquito traps (DMSs), two of which were installed in each district (Korean, gu) in Seoul Metropolitan city since 2015. Environmental factors were collected from the Automatic Weather System (AWS) by the Korea Meteorological Administration. The data of the nearest AWS devices from each DMS were used for the prediction formula analysis. We found out that the environmental factors affecting the mosquito population in Seoul Metropolitan city were the mean temperature and rainfall. We predicted the following equations by the generalized linear model analysis: ln(Mosquito population) = 2.519 + 0.08 × mean temperature + 0.001 × rainfall. Conclusions We expect that the mosquito forecast system would be used for predicting the mosquito population and to prevent the spread of disease through mosquitoes.

China is one of the world’s major environmental polluters, therefore, Chinese environmental efficiency is an issue of global importance. In this study, we aim to identify economic factors affecting environmental efficiency scores in different regions of China from a spatial econometric perspective. We measure environmental efficiency scores, relative to the theoretically consistent production possibilities frontier estimated, according to a novel iterative methodology. As expected, we find that environmental efficiency scores are negatively affected by the prevalence of heavy industry sector in the economy, with a higher share of coal as a source of energy exacerbating the problem. We also find evidence that strongly support the pollution halo hypothesis, which credits foreign-funded enterprises with producing in a more environmentally-friendly way. Surprisingly, we find a negative association between the share of tertiary sectors in a regional economy and environmental efficiency—emphasizing the need to address the indirect effects produced on the environment by the seemingly innocuous sectors, such as the hotel sector. We encourage the creation of foreign-funded enterprises, and support formulating environmental protection policies that consider the indirect effects various economic sectors have on the environment.

Competitiveness plays a key role in creating the prosperity, efficiency, and productivity of an economic zone. This study is conducted to build and verify a scale of factors affecting the competitiveness of Nghi Son economic zone, Thanh Hoa province. Both qualitative and quantitative research methods are applied. The collected data includes 108 enterprises operating in Nghi Son economic zone. After screening, the data is processed through the exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and description statistics to consider as a basis for the weighting scales. The research results indicate that: there are 4 groups of factors that directly affect the competitiveness of the economic zone, including: availability of the economic zone, the role of the economic zone management board, competitiveness platform at EZ level, and competitiveness platform at the enterprise level. The assessment of the importance of factor groups shows that the groups of indicators related to the advantage of input production factors are underestimated the role of intangible factors related to competing capability.

To do this, the authors have gradually carried out studies of factors affecting the environment, assessing the levels of their environmental hazard, analyzing the goals and main tasks of the international environmental monitoring system with a proposal for the basic principles of its improvement, and also proposed a new classification of environmental measures aimed at suppressing environmental impacts factors.

Earth is continents, seas, the developing countries, the developed countries, the centers and the borders is the One Belt-One Road initiative. On the other hand, the Sea “Silk Road” is called the “Economic Belt of the Silk Road” as a way of “New Belt and Road” for China's new long-term development strategy. "Silk Road" refers to the ancient land-based commercial trade route that originated in ancient China and connected to Asia, Africa and Europe.In order to benefit from the “Economic Belt of the Silk Road” initiative, China has partnered with other Asian countries and created two important financial development institutions, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Silk Road Fund.The main objective of the initiative is to create an Eurasian trade economic integration space and cross-border transport corridors, that is, to strengthen the links between government policies and national development strategies along the route, promote international cooperation, and promote the development of joint ventures. For this purpose, the following tasks have been set: 1. Development of regional economic integration method; 2. Create an integrated transportation design for Asian transportation, connect communication networks, and develop pipeline systems; 3. Switch back to investment and trade barriers and create a good investment environment; 4.Strengthen national currency; 5.Deepening cooperation in the humanitarian field; 6.Expanding China's exports and domestic power growth will be concentrated in the western provinces (steel, lead, photovoltaic equipment, wind turbines).The “One Belt and One Road” is a new starting point for China-global relations and human development. Utilize the geographical advantages of Mongolia, China and Russia to increase cross-border trade between Mongolia, Russia and China, creating opportunities for logistics and transportation. China is one of the Mongolia's largest sources of foreign direct investment and is seen as a huge market for Mongolia to provide services and products.Mongolia hopes to unite its “Steppe Road” initiative with China’s “One Belt and One Road” initiative. The goal of the “Steppe Road” initiative aims to expand the Mongolian economy through cross-border transportation, strengthen the road line connecting Russia and China, transform and extend the current railway line in Mongolia, and build oil and gas between Russia and China. The pipeline improves the infrastructure of Mongolia. Mongolia and other Asian countries are actively participating in the “One Belt and One Road” initiative implemented in China to reduce risks and threats and gain new opportunities and advantages in regional cooperation.

The Economic belt of the Silk Road project (hereinafter referred to as the "EBSR") has formed China's new long-term strategy "One belt − one way". With a view to the practical implementation of the EBSR initiative, China, in cooperation with interested Asian countries, is creating two important financial development institutions: the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Silk Road Fund. The new Chinese initiative, judging by the available information available, can pursue three strategic objectives:expansion of international and regional trade; the creation of international transport corridors from China to Europe and the Middle East through the territory of Kazakhstan and Central Asia;gradual increase of China's economic presence in Central Asia as a strategically important partner. Kazakhstan, as well as other countries of Central Asia, it is important to participate in the implementation of the Chinese EEPS initiative, to effectively use the emerging new opportunities and advantages of regional cooperation, while achieving, at the same time, minimizing risks and threats.
