In this paper, a single phase multifunctional integrated converter is proposed for electric vehicles (EVs) with single stage power conversion. The main objective of the proposed topology is to reduce the weight, size, and cost of the power electronic converter system used in EVs compared to the existing topologies that are already available in the industries. The novelty of the proposed topology includes: (i) single converter for charging, propulsion and regenerative braking; (ii) reduction of number of switches to reduce the switching and conduction losses; (iii) improving the efficiency by reducing the value of inductor; (iv) power factor correction for AC grid; and (v) improving the total harmonic distortion of the grid current. The complete analysis of the various modes of operation of the proposed topology is analyzed and implemented through MATLAB/Simulink software simulation and a power factor of 0.9999 and a current total harmonic distortion (THD) of 2.16% is achieved. The proposed topology is also compared with the existing topologies in terms of number of switches, diodes, inductors and capacitors used.

<span lang="EN-US">A new closed loop AC to DC ĈUK converter is presented in this paper. The conventional ĈUK AC to DC converter has no feedback circuit. Thereby, the output voltage of the converter changes while changing the load. The proposed closed loop converter can regulate voltage with the variation of load over a wide range. Moreover, the power factor and Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the supply side current found quite satisfactory from this closed loop ĈUK converter. The converter operates in four steps with a different combination of voltage polarities and switching states. The feedback path consists of a voltage control loop and a current control loop. The closed loop ĈUK converter in this study is compared with the open loop version. Additionally, the comparison is made with the conventional converter of the same topology. The effectiveness in terms of power factor and THD of the proposed converter is verified using simulation results.</span>

The paper suggests a control system of a three-phase power factor corrector. The study of the control system operation is carried out and the expressions for calculating the permissible values of error amplifier factors are obtained. The influence of the error amplifier parameters on phase current quality is investigated. The dependence of total harmonic distortion input current on a combination of error amplifier parameters is obtained at a given value of power factor. The conditions under which the total harmonic distortion input current has the minimum value are found out. This article is of interest to power electronics engineers, who are aimed at developing a three-phase power factor corrector.

Inverters are commonly controlled to generate AC current and Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) is the core index in judging the control effect. In this paper, a THD oriented Finite Control Set Model Predictive Control (FCS MPC) scheme is proposed for the single-phase inverter, where a optimization problem is solved to obtain the switching law for realization. Different from the traditional cost function, which focuses on the instantaneous deviation of amplitude between predictive current and its reference, we redesign a cost function that is the linear combination of the current fundamental tracking error, instantaneous THD value and DC component in one fundamental cycle (for 50 Hz, it is 0.02 s). Iterative method is developed for rapid calculation of this cost function. By choosing a switching state from a FCS to minimize the cost function, a FCS MPC is finally constructed. Simulation results in Matlab/Simulink and experimental results on rapid control prototype platform show the effect of this method. Analyses illustrate that, by choosing suitable weight of the cost function, the performance of this THD oriented FCS MPC method is better than the traditional one.

The most concerns in the inverter's design are about, how to make the output voltage of the inverter sinusoidal at the desired fundamental frequency with low total harmonic distortion (THD). This paper presents a design and implementation of single-phase five-level inverter which is powered by single dc source and based on T-type multi-level inverters construction. The proposed inverter is built mainly by six IGBTs and two diodes. The used modulation technique is based on using two triangular carriers at 2000 Hz frequency and shifted by phase opposition disposition (POD) method. The carriers are made slightly unbalanced with their amplitudes. The over-modulation method is also introduced in the design to get the lowest possible THD effect without using filters. The inverter is simulated by MATLAB SIMULINK, implemented practically, and tested with the help of LabVIEW software.
