Emotional Intelligence and Organizational Commitment between the Hotel Staff in Tehran, Iran

The aim of this paper is to find out the relationship between emotional intelligence and organizational commitment of the hotel staff in 5-Star hotels of Tehran, Iran. The research enjoys an applied, descriptive, survey-based, and correlational framework. The population of the study was comprised of 423 employees (N =423) of public 5- star hotels in Tehran including Esteghlal, Laleh, and Homa. The sample was randomly selected based on Kerjesi- Morgan table and included 142 (n=142) individuals. The data gathering instruments were two standard questionnaires measuring emotional intelligence and organizational commitment. To analyze the data, Pierson correlation, ANOVA, and Qi-square were employed and results revealed that there was a significant relationship between the two main variables of the study, namely; emotional intelligence and organizational commitment and some of the components of these variables. This signifies the necessity of attracting and employing highly emotionally intelligent individuals, training them in different levels and leading them towards the application of the skills required. Paving the ground for the development and continuation of emotional intelligence within managers and the staff of the hotels and residential centers are also inevitable factors to be followed.

The aim of this study was to empirically test the relationship between emotional intelligence, work engagement, and organizational commitment Indonesian Army personnels. A quantitative research method was used, utilizing scales of organizational commitment, emotional intelligence, and work engagement. Indonesian Army personnels of KOREM XX, KODIM, YY, and KODIM ZZ were the population of this study. Data analysis using regression techniques revealed an R value of .482 (p < .001). This showed a significant relationship between emotional intelligence, work engagement, and organizational commitment. In addition, partial correlation analysis showed a significant relationship between work engagement and organizational commitment (r = .447 and p < .001), but there was no significant relationship between emotional intelligence and organizational commitment (r = .129 and p > .05). Effective contribution of work engagement on organizational commitment of the Indonesian Army personnel was 23.2%.

Individuals who have control over their emotions can make better and effective investment decisions than those who are less emotionally intelligent. Individuals who have more knowledge about financial terms and stock market can make efficient and effective investment decisions than those who are less financially literate. Positive and significant relationship was found between emotional intelligence and investment behaviour and between financial literacy and investment behaviour. It was found that gender has impact on investment behaviour and that it moderates the relationship between emotional intelligence and investment behaviour and males have higher financial literacy and tend to invest more than females.

Introduction. In a market economy, staff organizational loyalty is one of the key challenges. Aim. To explore the relationship between staff organizational loyalty and their job satisfaction and enthusiasm. Methods: J. Meyer and N. Allen Scale of Organizational Loyalty, Utrecht Scale of Work Enthusiasm, and Integral Job Satisfaction questionnaire. Results. There is a statistically significant relationship between staff job satisfaction and organizational loyalty. Overall staff organizational loyalty has been shown to relate with such scales of work enthusiasm as "energy", "commitment", and "general enthusiasm". Conclusions. Staff organizational loyalty significantly correlates with staff job satisfaction (in particular, with such components of job satisfaction as job achievement satisfaction, colleagues relationship satisfaction, and work conditions satisfaction) and work enthusiasm (in particular, with staff organizational commitment).

Emotional Intelligence is the ability to understand, manage one’s own and other’s feelings in order to adapt to the demands of the environment. Intimacy refers to the feelings of closeness and bondedness in close relationships. Emotional Intelligence help enhance intimacy by open expression of emotions and empathetic response to the partner’s self-disclosure. The study examined the relationship between emotional intelligence and intimacy in 108 young adults currently in a heterosexual romantic relationship, belonging to the age group of 20-35 years (M=24.1 years, SD= 3.23 years) consisting of 36 (30%) males and 72 (70%) females. The study employed three scales namely Sternberg’s Love Triangular Scale (1988), Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale (1998) and Intimacy Attitude Scale Revised (1985). Data was collected through Google forms by emailing the questionnaire to the participants known to be in relationship through common friends and also by personally giving the questionnaire to students of universities in Delhi, NCR region. Positive correlation was found between Attitude towards intimacy and emotional intelligence; commitment and managing owns emotions subscale of emotional intelligence; attitude towards intimacy and managing other’s emotions subscale of emotional intelligence. Thus emotionally intelligent individuals have a greater desire towards intimacy and commitment in their relationships.

Emotional labour has long been recognized as a necessary part of nursing practice. Nurses often provide care for patients and families who are suffering and where emotions are heightened. Emotions play an important role in the relationship and communication between nurses, patients and families. Nowadays nursing is becoming more and more technical. The rational mind and the emotional mind need to be balanced partners for the nurse-patient relationship to be harmonious. Every nursing intervention is affected by the master aptitude of emotional intelligence. People who are emotionally intelligent see themselves as more optimistic, as they are better able to understand, manipulate, and regulate their emotions. This paper reflects on how emotional intelligence contributes immensely to the art and craft of nursing which is a practice discipline.

In today’s advanced economies, knowledge has been converted into a key economic resource and a contributing factor for organizational success. In nature, knowledge requires to be managed by each person in order to yield the concept of personal knowledge management (Drucker). In many scientific records, the relationship between personal emotional intelligence, problem–solving, and the psychological traits including emotional intelligences has been stressed. The present paper has aimed to study the association between the emotional intelligence dimensions and personal knowledge management. Hence, this research is a descriptive survey. The data collection tool was a questionnaire including 37 questions and the statistical sample consisted of 302 individuals from the students, experts, and active managers in the field of knowledge management. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was used to achieve the questionnaire’s reliability coefficient, while the facial and content validity was confirmed by knowledge management experts. The research data was analyzed by statistical methods and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Emotional intelligence was measured according to the Goleman’s model in five dimensions, including motivation, self–awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and social skill. According to data analysis, there is a positive and significant correlation between the education level and capabilities of people in personal knowledge management. All the emotional intelligence dimensions are of a positive and significant relationship with personal knowledge management. Likewise, the research findings proved a significant relationship between personal knowledge management’s four aspects and the five dimensions of emotional intelligence.

Employee’s commitment is an important work attitude for an organization. Supervisors can play a role in increasing it by conducting downward influence tactics. This study examines the relationship between employee competency and downward influence tactics (consultation, ingratiation, and exchange tactics), the relationship between these tactics and employee’s commitment to the supervisor and the organization, and the mediating effect of these tactics on the relationship between employee competency and employee’s commitment. Data were collected from 203 non-managerial employees who work in various industries in Surabaya, Indonesia. We analyzed the collected data by using PLS-SEM. This study found that employee competency has a significant positive relationship with downward influence tactics (consultation, ingratiation, and exchange tactics). In addition, consultation and ingratiation tactics have a significant relationship with one’s commitment to one’s supervisor, but only consultation tactic has a significant relationship with organizational commitment. The consultation tactic has a mediation effect on the relationship between employee competency and organizational commitment, and the commitment to the supervisor.

The purpose of this study was to find out the impact of employee participation on organizational performance and to find out the moderating effect of organizational commitment on the relationship between employee participation and organizational performance. The study population comprised of 5866 employees of three state corporations namely Mumias Sugar Company, Kenya Power and KenGen. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The findings of the study were that employee participation had a significant effect on organizational performance. The study further showed that affective commitment, continuance commitment and normative commitment moderated the relationship between employee participation and organizational performance.
