In this study, Ag/TiO2/GO nanocomposites were successfully fabricated by a facile hydrothermal method. Nitrogen-doped GO was prepared using ammonia treatment to improve its conductivity. The Ag/TiO2/GO nanocomposites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), zeta potential, and photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL). A homogeneous dispersion of Ag/TiO2 nanoparticles was shown on the surface of GO. Increasing the nitrogen doping concentration increased hydrophilicity, thereby improving the conductivity of Ag/TiO2/GO nanocomposites.

The synthesis of hexagonal phase Zn1-xMnxS (x = 0–0.05) nanorods was achieved by hydrothermal treatment of zinc manganese diethyldithiocarbamates (Zn1-xMnx-(DDTC)2, x=0–0.05) in 40 mass % hydrate hydrazine aqueous solution at 180 °C for 12 h. The structure, composition and optical property of the obtained products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra.

Hexagonal flower-like CdS nanostructures were successfully synthesized through a facile hydrothermal method with thiourea as sulfur source. By combining the results of X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), the structural and morphological characterizations of the products were performed. The photocatalytic activity of CdS nanostructures had been tested by degradation of Rhodamine B (RB) under UV light compared to commercial CdS powders, which indicated that the as-syntherized CdS nanostructures exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity for degradation of RB. The possible growth mechanism of CdS nanostructures was proposed in the end.

TiO2/SnS2 nanocomposite was synthesized via hydrothermal treatment of tin (IV) chloride pentahydrate, thioacetamide and TiO2 nanotubes in deionized water at 150 °C for 3 h. The structure, composition and optical property of the as-synthesized nanocomposite were characterized by X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra, and its photocatalytic property was tested in the reduction of aqueous Cr6+ under visible-light (λ > 420 nm) irradiation. It was observed that TiO2 nanotubes exhibited no photocatalytic activity, whereas TiO2/SnS2 nanocomposite exhibited photocatalytic activity in the reduction of aqueous Cr6+ under visible-light (λ > 420 nm) irradiation.

Porous LaFeO3 were synthesised by nanocasting method using mesoporous silica (SBA-15) as a hard template and used as a visible-light-driven photocatalyst. The as-synthesised LaFeO3 photocatalyst were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), N2 adsorption-desorption, and Ultraviolet–Visible Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS). The photo-Fenton catalytic activities of porous LaFeO3 were investigated for the degradation of oily-containing wastewater. The results showed that porous LaFeO3 had better photo-Fenton catalytic activity under visilbe light irradiation than pure LaFeO3. The remarkable improvement photo-Fenton catalytic activity of porous LaFeO3 material could be attributed to the synergistic effect of adsorption and visible light photo-Fenton processes thanks to its porous structure.

AbstractThe present work reports a simple and easy wet chemistry synthesis of cuprous oxide (Cu2O) nanospheres at room temperature without surfactants and using different precursors. Structural characterization was carried out by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy coupled with focused ion beam and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The optical band gaps were determined from diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The photoluminescence behavior of the as-synthesized nanospheres showed significant differences depending on the precursors used. The Cu2O nanospheres were constituted by aggregates of nanocrystals, in which an on/off emission behavior of each individual nanocrystal was identified during transmission electron microscopy observations. The thermal behavior of the Cu2O nanospheres was investigated with in situ X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry experiments. Remarkable structural differences were observed for the nanospheres annealed in air, which turned into hollow spherical structures surrounded by outsized nanocrystals.

ZnO2 nanorods were synthesized via hydrothermal treatment of 2ZnCO3•3Zn(OH)2 powder in 30 mass% H2O2 aqueous solution at 170 °C for 12 h, and characterized by means of X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra. Besides, the photocatalytic activity of the as-synthesized ZnO2 nanorods was tested for the degradation of methyl orange in distilled water under UV light irradiation.

Nanogold doped TiO2catalysts are synthesized, and their application in the photodegradation of dye pollutants is studied. The materials are characterized using different analytical techniques such as X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results revealed the strong interaction between the metallic gold nanoparticles and the anatase TiO2support. Au doped systems showed very good photoactivity in the degradation of dye pollutants under UV irradiation as well as in sunlight. A simple mechanism is proposed for explaining the excellent photoactivity of the systems. The reusability studies of the photocatalysts exhibited more than 98% degradation of the dye even after 10 repeated cycles.

A series of composites of the high photoactivity of {001} facets exposed BiOCl and grapheme sheets (GS) were synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal reaction. The obtained BiOCl/GS photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The as-prepared BiOCl/GS photocatalyst showed enhanced photocatalytic activity for the degradation of methyl orange (MO) under UV and visible light (λ > 400 nm). The enhanced photocatalytic activity could be attributed to oxygen vacancies of the {001} facets of BiOCl/GS and the high migration efficiency of photo-induced electrons, which could suppress the charge recombination effectively.

Bi2S3/SnS2 heterostructured photocatalysts were synthesized from BiOI, SnCl[Formula: see text]5H2O and NH2CSNH2 using an economic and simple hydrothermal method. The as-synthesized samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The photodegradation activities of the Bi2S3/SnS2 heterostructured photocatalysts were estimated by degrading rhodamine B under simulated sunlight supplied by irradiating with a 350[Formula: see text]W Xe lamp. Bi2S3/SnS2 photocatalysts were prepared using varying percentages of Bi2S3. The sample containing 13% Bi2S3 had the most efficient photocatalyst performance among the tested samples. The photocatalytic mechanism involves heterojunctions formed in the Bi2S3/SnS2, which promoted effective separation of photoinduced electrons and holes.
