Although several Customer Relationship Management (CRM) evaluation frameworks have been developed in the past years, they are usually complex, oriented toward large organizations and from the firm’s perspective only. This study proposes a CRM evaluation model which is simple for a small business to use and takes into account three different perspectives: the business, the staff and the customer. The need for this model arose when one of the co-authors had to evaluate and select a CRM system suitable for a small business. Also, although the evaluation will be done within the context of a specific business, this model and the multiple perspective approach can be used with minimum modifications as an evaluation and reference tool for other CRM decision-makers in small service businesses. https://doi.org/10.13022/ijahp2017.v9.is1.473

AbstractThe year 2010 marks the 50th anniversary of the first and only manned visit to the deepest part of the sea. Over the past 50 years, even as technology has advanced with breathtaking speed, there have been very few changes or advances in applying new technology to manned (human-occupied) vehicles for deep sea exploration. Today there are only a handful of deep research submersibles and all, with the exception of the Chinese Harmony 7000, are aging assets. None are capable of exploring all areas of the ocean. Project Deepsearch is being undertaken by a small business working under the premise of a collaborative open source effort. Our goals are to bring innovative solutions to bear in five key areas of engineering and technology while engaging industry contributors and the public, enhancing awareness of the importance of the oceans, marine science and education.

In the past several years various published papers have questioned whether the Bayh–Dole Act of 1980 (The University and Small Business Patent Procedures Act) has in reality been a determining factor in promoting the transfer of technology from US universities, as has been credited to it. This paper responds to that criticism, presenting facts and analysis in support of the contributions universities have made under the auspices of the Act. The authors point out flawed interpretations and misreadings of pertinent data by critics and discuss the circumstances surrounding the inception, passage and implementation of Bayh–Dole.

Small business and entrepreneurship have been at the heart of Pakistan's economy for almost 60 years, yet little (if any) research has been conducted that identifies factors crucial for small business success in Pakistan. In the past, studies identifying factors crucial for small business success have focused primarily on the United States and Western Europe. This paper presents survey results from 265 small business owners located in and around Karachi, the largest city and hub of economic activity in Pakistan. The survey was designed to identify the internal and external factors that Pakistani small businesspersons believe are critical for success.

Background: Massage therapists have been a part of Canadian’s health care since 1919. The profession has gone through great change over the past 100 years including adjustments to entry-to-practice education. An important recent change was the implementation of massage therapy (MT) education program accreditation. In light of the likely disruption as a result of programs becoming accredited, a scan of the current state of MT education in Canada was undertaken. Methods: An environmental scan informed by seminal medical education efforts was used to describe the thoughts and opinions of MT education stakeholders in Canada. Specifically, stakeholders were interviewed regarding the current state of MT education and their comments were analyzed for common themes. Results: Twenty-one stakeholders participated. Four themes were constructed: variation, isolation, stagnation, and accreditation. Variation is described as the impact of differences in content and quality of the education provided in MT colleges. Isolation is described as the feeling of the participant being separated, or disconnected, from the regulator, accreditor, or colleagues due, at least in part, to a lack of communication or networking opportunities. Stagnation is described as a lack of activity, growth, or development within MT education. Participants talked about accreditation, both as a solution for some of the challenges previously mentioned, and as a potential challenge in itself. Conclusions: Several challenges to MT education were described by stakeholders that they hoped would be remedied by national MT program accreditation. Despite some limitations, this environmental scan forms a baseline for stakeholder views on massage education in Canada upon which future comparisons can be made. While the environmental scan results are most useful when applied to the MT in Canada context, stakeholders in other countries may also find them interesting and valuable when considering challenges facing their own education programs.
