Automatic e-content sequencing system for personalised learning environments by using fuzzy AHP based on multiple intelligences

The use of personalised learning environments (PLEs) and adaptive learning environments (ALEs) in education has increased during the COVID-2019 pandemic. Thus, the need of effective and high-quality PLEs and ALEs has emerged but developing such learning environments has some difficulties such as the need for a huge number of qualified e-contents. Generation of e-contents for these systems is a time-consuming and costly process. Moreover, presenting the same e-content for each student is not effective because each student can have different intelligence type. To overcome these problems, low cost, reusable and dynamic e-contents can be used for PLE and ALE systems. For this purpose, fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) was used to provide sequenced e-contents for PLE and ALE systems. This proposed system was used in a case study to investigate its impact on learning process. The performance of the proposed study was compared with analytical hierarchy process (AHP), which is another multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method, also further statistical analyses were investigated. The results showed that 84.6% of students showed interest in the proposed system, so the FAHP method can be used for presenting personalised e-content effectively.

Making decisions is a part of daily life. The nature of decision-making includes multiple and usually conflicting criteria. Multi Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) problems are handled under two main headings: Multi Attribute Decision Making (MADM) and Multi Objective Decision Making (MODM). Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a widely used multi-criteria decision making approach and has successfully been applied to many practical problems. Traditional AHP requires exact or crisp judgments (numbers). However, due to the complexity and uncertainty involved in real world decision problems, decision makers might be more reluctant to provide crisp judgments than fuzzy ones. Furthermore, even when people use the same words, individual judgments of events are invariably subjective, and the interpretations that they attach to the same words may differ. This is why fuzzy numbers and fuzzy sets have been introduced to characterize linguistic variables. Here, the authors overview the most known fuzzy AHP approaches and their application, and they present a case study to select an e-marketplace for a firm, which produces and sells electronic parts of computers in Turkey.

In this study, a fuzzy AHP-VIKOR method is presented to help decision makers (DMs), especially physicians, evaluate and rank intervention strategies for influenza. Selecting the best intervention strategy is a sophisticated multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem with potentially competing criteria. Two fuzzy MCDM methods, fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (F-AHP) and fuzzy VIsekriterijumska optimizacija i KOmpromisno Resenje (F-VIKOR), are integrated to evaluate and rank influenza intervention strategies. In fuzzy AHP-VIKOR, F-AHP is used to determine the fuzzy criteria weights and F-VIKOR is implemented to rank the strategies with respect to the presented criteria. A case study is given where a professor of infectious diseases and clinical microbiology, an internal medicine physician, an ENT physician, a family physician, and a cardiologist in Turkey act as DMs in the process.

The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is, in literature, the most frequently used selection method generally in association with fuzzy logic. In this article some incongruities in the use of fuzzy AHP detected in the literature are presented such as improper use of the defuzzification methods and weak consistency checks of the comparison matrix that in case of scattered comparison matrix could produces results that are clearly a contradiction. We demonstrate how even a careful definition of the third party logistics providers (3PLP) selection criteria may lead to improper results, if the appropriate methods of defuzzification are not used and the concept of “vague” is not well interpreted, both in the comparison phase and in the calculation phase.

Cloud computing is a significant paradigm shift in information technology (IT) service offerings that has been receiving enormous attention in academic and IT industry. Recent years has seen exponential growth in cloud use adoption, where many organizations are moving their IT resources into cloud due to flexibility and low-cost. However, on account of rapid innovation and growth in cloud technologies and service providers, selecting the right cloud services, provider and strategy is becoming increasing a common challenge to organization during cloud adoption. In an attempt to address this challenge, we propose application of Delphi Analytic Hierarchy Process (DAHP) method in selecting cloud deployment model. There are several cloud deployment models and organizations must identify the right model that best suits their business needs. The proposed approach facilitates a collaborative decision making process, consisting a number of decision makers whom, with consensus facilitated by the DAHP process, identifies feasible approaches, decision making factors and ultimate selection of a cloud deployment model alternative that is based on organizational business needs and capabilities. The DAHP process is illustrated by a means of a case study. The DAHP result analysis, as was illustrated in the case study, helps in explaining and justifying the choice selected as the best cloud deployment model.

Selection of service providers in the global supply chains of today has been recognized as having a very important effect on the competitiveness of the entire supply chain. It results in achieving high quality end results (products and/or services), at reasonable cost coupled with high customer satisfaction. This article discusses the use of Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) to effectively manage the qualitative and quantitative decision factors which are involved in the selection of providers of 3PL services under Lead Logistics Provider (LLP) environments of today. Lead logistics providers (LLP) are increasingly being banked upon to integrate the best of 3PL service providers and allow for synchronized and optimized operations. In the asset free environments of today, many a times, the LLP uses the services of the 3PL and hence the issue of reliably choosing them assumes increasingly greater significance. The fuzzy-AHP has been adequately demonstrated in literature to be an effective tool which can be used to factor-in the fuzziness of data. Triangular Fuzzy Numbers (TFN) have been deployed to make over the linguistic comparisons of criteria, sub-criteria and the alternatives. The FAHP based model formulated in this chapter is applied to a case study in the Indian context using data from three leading LSPs with significant operating leverages in the province of Uttrakhand (India). The proposed model can provide the guidelines and directions for the decision makers to effectively select their global service providers in the present day competitive logistics markets.

The use of web-based education and e-learning environments has increased with the developments in educational technology. Schools, universities, public institutions, and other private sector companies started deploying these systems to train their students, members, and employees. Exams are carried out during the evaluation process of these trainings. Web-based tests are sometimes used for these exams. When there are so many questions about the same topic, it is a time-consuming and difficult problem to prepare these exams in terms of the best quality, quickly and effectively. In order to overcome this issue, artificial intelligence techniques are utilized as well as conventional methods for producing test papers. In this study, an Intelligent Question Evaluation and Selection Software (I-QUESS), that enables the selection of questions according to desired preferences by using Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) and genetic algorithm (GA) as hybrid, was developed. This proposed hybrid system was used in a case study to create test sheet for web-based environments.

Finding the place of accommodation is one of the most crucial issues during a journey. This study aims to support the decision-making of tourists for choosing the optimal accommodation by combining fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) and geographic information system (GIS) techniques. The adopted criteria are the cost per room, the distance from the center, the level of security, the place rating, and the availability of free cancellation and breakfast. Due to some uncertainty and diversity of criteria, the FAHP approach is applied to consolidate tourists’ decisions by applying criteria weighting, while the GIS is used to overlay the weighted criteria and to visualize the ranked places of accommodation on a map. The combined technique is applied on a case study in Budapest City, where the analysis is conducted on 364 places of accommodation. The results show that half of the places are recommended for tourists, and more than fifth of the accommodations are highly recommended. Furthermore, it can be concluded that the cost per room was the highest influential criterion with 0.233 importance weight, followed by the security level with 0.205. The lowest factor affecting the choice of accommodation was the free cancellation service. It was demonstrated that the rating weight importance was 0.182, while the breakfast and the distance from the center had approximately the same importance. As a recommendation, some improvements on the accommodation, such as decreasing the cost per room, enhancing the services, or developing the quality of the places, would increase their attractiveness for tourists.

Due to the differences between regions and sub-regions in the countries, some problems come out especially in economic and social life. The issue of differences of regions has been widely implemented to evaluate the economic performance of Turkey in many disciplines. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the efficiency of 26 sub-regions of NUTS-2 classification using integration Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) with Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The integrated FAHP/DEA method comprises two stages. In the first stage, linguistic terms are used to determine the decision makers’ opinion and are converted to quantitative forms by using FAHP methods. Subsequently, in the second stage, DEA method is applied to obtain relative efficiency of sub-regions in Turkey. The integrated FAHP/DEA method is illustrated with a real case study.

Batik is labelled as an identity of Indonesia as in 2009 UNESCO recognized batik as a cultural heritage of no object. The export value of batik in 2015 reached USD 156 million. This study aims to evaluate the performance of raw material suppliers using five criteria, i.e., price, quality, delivery, flexibility, and service. The combination of the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) and technique for others reference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) are used here to achieve the research objective. FAHP was used to determine the weight of each criterion; while TOPSIS was employed to identify the ranking of all alternatives to be considered. A case study was conducted at Lasem batik writing centre. FAHP results show that quality becomes the most important criterion with the weight of 0.266. The best suppliers of raw materials are LI, PA, and SL for fabrics, dyes, and wax respectively. Findings of this study may offer batik craftsmen in determining what are the best suppliers to be considered based on their performance.

The fuzzy Kano model (FKM) adopts a linear scoring system that cannot accurately reflect the relationship between users’ needs and satisfaction and may underestimate the importance of users’ evaluation and needs. In this paper, we propose a preference-based evaluation-fuzzy-quantification method to determine the priority of the development of attractive factors of an electric scooter. In the evaluation analysis stage, the evaluation grid diagrams of all the interviewees are systemized. In the fuzzy computing stage, the continuous fuzzy Kano model (C-FKM) combined with the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) is developed to determine the priority of the development of attractive factors. By processing the ambiguity of users’ needs, the C-FKM can obtain a more accurate representation of users’ needs than the FKM. The opinions of 20 experts are integrated using the similarity aggregation method (SAM); then the FAHP is applied to calculate the weight of each evaluation criterion. Lastly, we use quantitative analysis to discover the important and specific characteristics that influence the attractiveness of an electric scooter. Research shows that Kansei images with attractive qualities are reliable and may be the first choice for satisfying the perceptual demands of consumers and can provide reference for the related research.
