Knowledge Sharing through Social Networking Sites (SNSs): A Study of Pakistani Research Students

The present study investigated the knowledge-sharing behavior of library and information management researchers, using the lens of the theory of planned behavior. The study is quantitative and adopted a survey questionnaire as a data collection technique. The snowball sampling technique was considered suitable to recruit respondents to the study. Data were analyzed with the help of SPSS (20.0) and the ADANCO (2.0.1). The research findings confirm that subjective norms and perceived behavioral control have a significant impact on intentions to share knowledge, whereas knowledge sharing intentions have a statistically significant positive impact on knowledge sharing behavior through SNS among postgraduate students. Attitude towards knowledge sharing directly triggers knowledge sharing practices through social media networking sites. Intentions to share knowledge do not mediate the relationship of attitude and knowledge sharing behavior. The theory of planned behavior has widely been used to measure knowledge-sharing behavior in different sectors. However, the relationship between attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavior control, intentions to share knowledge within the domain of social media is explored first time in this study, particularly in the context of the library and information science post-graduate students.

This chapter investigates knowledge-sharing practice among academics, examines the relationship between knowledge-sharing behavior and its predictors based on theory of planned behavior, and identifies the motivators and barriers affecting these predictors. Data were collected using a web-based questionnaire. Using SPSS and PLS-SEM, the analysis process involved (1) measuring the extent of knowledge sharing practice, (2) assessing the measurement model, (3) assessing the structural model, (4) testing the hypotheses, (5) validating research model fit. Results showed (1) great extent of knowledge-sharing practice, (2) knowledge-sharing behavior is significantly affected by intention, which is affected by attitude, subjective norms, self-efficacy, but not affected by controllability, (3) attitude is positively affected by trust and reputation as motivators of knowledge sharing, while controllability is negatively affected by lack of time and poor communication as barriers of knowledge sharing. This is the first research on knowledge-sharing behavior in higher education in UAE.

Affected by coronavirus disease (COVID-19), in addition to keeping away the impact of the pandemic on their business practices, many enterprises have proposed relevant measures to protect their employees’ job safety and security. Especially for enterprises with high dependence on knowledge resources, employees’ innovation and knowledge sharing play a vital role. In the context of global economic austerity, how to put forward the corresponding plan of knowledge sharing intention to improve the knowledge sharing behavior of employees for enterprises is worth discussing. Mainland China and Malaysia have different quarantine policies and similar industrial structures. This study examines the awareness of Mainland China vs. Malaysian employees, and evaluates the relationship among self-efficacy, job security, market orientation, knowledge sharing intention, and knowledge sharing behavior from the theory of planned behavior. In this study, a total of 627 Mainland China and 434 Malaysian participants were collected to compare both groups in the development of employees’ knowledge sharing behavior. In this study, a variance-based partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was performed to test the proposed hypothesis and conduct comparative analysis. The results in both the samples show that self-efficacy, job security, and market orientation have positive and significant effects on knowledge sharing intention; self-efficacy has positive and significant effects on job security; knowledge sharing intention has positive and significant effects on knowledge sharing behavior. Moreover, there are several significant differences between Mainland China and Malaysia in the examinations of path comparisons.

Knowledge is recognized as one valuable asset for many organizations. Thus, knowledge-sharing is one of important activities in many organizations, including university. Knowledge sharing is defined as activities of transferring or disseminating organizationally relevant information, ideas, suggestions, and expertise with one another. This research applied Christian values as a moderating variable in the framework of theory of planned behavior. The aims of this research to assess applicability of the theory of planned behavior to predict knowledge sharing and to examine the effects of Christian values in the relationship between attitude and intention to share knowledge. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect the data for this study. The data was then analyzed using structural equation modeling.

This paper intends to examine the mediating effects of subjective norms on the relationship between career advancement and job characteristics and knowledge sharing behavior. Based on the social exchange theory, we establish a research model which contains job and organizational factors. We distributed 650 questionnaires, but only 439 questionnaires were returned and usable. The hypotheses were tested using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The study examines knowledge sharing behavior and its determinants. The results reveal that career advancement, job characteristics and subjective norms are positively and significantly related to knowledge sharing behavior. The findings depict that subjective norms have a partial positive and significant mediating effect on knowledge sharing behavior. This paper intends to identify knowledge sharing behavior and its determinants in Tanzanian healthcare institutions and among healthcare professionals. This is because there are only a few such studies in the context of Tanzania; therefore, this study offers a theoretical foundation for future studies and practical implications for administrators and practitioners.

This study aims to explain the knowledge sharing behavior of business teachers of Pakistani Universities using the theory of planned behavior. For this purpose, data was collected from 157 business teachers serving in the Pakistani Universities. Smart-PLS has been used to analyze the collected data. Factor analysis and Cronbach’s alpha confirmed the validity and reliability of the measurement scales. Similarly, Structural model were applied to find out the relationship among independent variables (attitude towards knowledge sharing, subjective norms of knowledge sharing, perceived behavioral control of knowledge sharing) and dependent variable (knowledge sharing intention and knowledge sharing behavior). The findings show positive and significant relationship among all the study variables.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to summarize the application of the theory of planned behavior (TPB) in predicting knowledge sharing behavior (KSB) based on a systematic literature review. Design/methodology/approach A meta-analysis was applied as a research methodology, and 47 studies were included in this study with a total population of 15,528 people (mean = 353). The authors summarized previous studies which used the TPB for predicting (KSB). Findings Findings reveal that KSB is determined jointly by knowledge-sharing intention (KSI) and perceived behavioral control (PBC). Intention itself is a function of attitude toward knowledge sharing, subjective norm surrounding knowledge sharing and PBC to perform KSB. Practical implications The primary implication of this meta-analysis is to deeply interpret the essence of KSB r and its determinants, in which managers can foster the conduction of this valuable behavior in their organizations. However, as a limitation, a remarkable threat to validity in the existing literature is a potential “cooperation bias” in which participants likely overestimate their knowledge sharing intention and knowledge sharing behavior. In future studies, this limitation can be addressed by measuring actual KSB. Originality/value This study is the first meta-analysis conducted to investigate the prediction power of the TPB for determining KSB. While there are several contradictions reported in the researches which used the TPB in the knowledge-sharing context, this research has summarized and reported the results.

Sharing knowledge and firm innovation are the crucial ways to sustain competitive advantage. This study builds a nested model to test the relationship between learning organization, knowledge-sharing behavior, and firm innovation. Data gathered from 254 employees were used to examine the relationship of the learning organization to employees' knowledge-sharing behavior and firm innovation. The results indicate that open-mindedness, shared vision and trust have positive effects on both knowledge-sharing behavior and firm innovation. While commitment to learning does not shows significant relationship on knowledge-sharing behavior and firm innovation. Communication has significance on firm innovation but not significance on knowledge-sharing behavior.
