Perinatal Depression Educational Training for Graduate Nursing Students

The purpose of this study was to implement and assess an educational intervention for nursing students pertaining to perinatal depression (PD) screening and treatment. A single group (n = 59), repeated-measures design (i.e., pre- and post-intervention assessments) was used to assess the impact of an online intervention. Demographics, Theory of Planned Behavior constructs, intention to screen and treat PD, and PD-related knowledge were tested. The intervention resulted in positive gains in PD-related perceived behavioral control (PBC), attitudes, subjective norms, knowledge, intention to screen and treat PD, and perceived importance of screening and treating PD from pre- to post-intervention. PBC demonstrated a small-to-moderate positive association with perceived importance of screening and treating PD at post-intervention. Results from the current study suggest that the PD online educational intervention is effective in improving participants’ PD-related PBC, attitudes, subjective norms, knowledge, and intention to screen and treat PD.

Objectives: To assess the knowledge of weaning, of parents and guardians, of children under two-years-old, attending David Rose Health Centre. To assess whether there is an association between selected demographic variables, and the weaning knowledge. To educate the parents and guardians on the World Health Organisation recommended weaning practices. To assess the change in knowledge of weaning after the delivery of an educational intervention. Design and Methods: A prospective longitudinal study with repeated measures design obtained 120 participants using a convenient, non-probability sampling method. Data was collected using a pre-intervention and post-intervention questionnaire. The data was processed using the SPSS Version 24 Software Program and analysed with a scoring system developed by the researchers using the PAHO/WHO “Guiding Principles for Complementary Feeding of the Breastfed Child”. Results: Both educational interventions increased the participants knowledge from good to almost 100%. Conclusions: Most parents and guardians had good baseline knowledge. However, there were certain aspects where they lacked or had inaccurate knowledge. Overall, their knowledge improved regardless of the type of educational intervention they were exposed to. Recommendations: Future studies should be held in classroom settings, with more time allowed to assess change of knowledge.

 Objective: The objective of this study is to assess awareness of Pharmacovigilance among the healthcare professionals and to evaluate the impact of an educational intervention for improving awareness of Pharmacovigilance among the nursing staff and nursing students from Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out using a validated questionnaire that included demographic details and 20 survey items to evaluate the participants’ knowledge, attitude, and perception (KAP) on adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and Pharmacovigilance. All participants received an interactive educational intervention in the form of a lecture. A pre- and post-KAP questionnaire survey was used to evaluate the impact of educational intervention among the participants. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences statistical software, version 16, was used to analyze the data.Results: A total of 103 healthcare professionals in the study responded to the pre- and post-KAP survey questionnaires. 66 nursing students and 37 nursing staff were involved in the study. The increased awareness among the study subjects about pharmacovigilance between pre- and post-intervention was statistically significant (p<0.001) which showed the effectiveness of educational intervention carried out.Conclusion: The results show that participants in the study were only moderately aware of ADR monitoring. However, they had expressed a positive attitude toward Pharmacovigilance and ADRs reporting. There is a need to create awareness among the nursing fraternity about ADR reporting for improving the spontaneous reporting.

The TBAs were engaged through a culturally adapted audio-visual workshop. Data were collected before and immediately after intervention using a pretested questionnaire. Chi square test was done to determine any significant association with the zone of practice and paired sample t-test analysis to determine any significant pre and post intervention change. Level of significance was set at p ≤ ·05. Results More than half of the TBAs had at most, a secondary level of education (54·4%). The average length of time they practiced as TBAs was 16 years with an average of ten birth deliveries per month. After the intervention, all the respondents (100%) reported a willingness to always promote immunization uptake and also, there was a statistically significant increase in Knowledge (p < ·000). Similarly, the level of knowledge in the post intervention period appeared to be significantly associated with the zone of practice (p = ·027). Conclusion The workshop intervention empowered the TBAs irrespective of their zones of residence by successfully improving their knowledge, though at varying levels; and consequently, their willingness to always promote immunization uptake.

BACKGROUND Patients with facial nerve paralysis (FNP) experience challenges in accessing health care that could potentially be overcome by telemedicine. However, the reliability of telemedicine has yet to be established in this field. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate the consistency between face-to-face and video assessments of patients with FNP by experienced clinicians. METHODS A repeated-measures design was used. A total of 7 clinicians assessed the FNP of 28 patients in a face-to-face clinic using standardized grading systems (the House-Brackmann, Sydney, and Sunnybrook facial grading systems). After 3 months, the same grading systems were used to assess facial palsy in video recordings of the same patients. RESULTS The House-Brackmann system in video assessment had excellent reliability and agreement (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC]=0.780; principal component analysis [PCA]=87.5%), similar to face-to-face assessment (ICC=0.686; PCA=79.2%). Reliability of the Sydney system was good to excellent, with excellent agreement face-to-face (ICC=0.633 to 0.834; PCA=81.0%-95.2%). However, video assessment of the cervical branch and synkinesis had fair reliability and good agreement (ICC=0.437 to 0.597; PCA=71.4%), whereas that of other branches had good to excellent reliability and excellent agreement (ICC=0.625 to 0.862; PCA=85.7%-100.0%). Reliability of the Sunnybrook system was poor to fair for resting symmetry (ICC=0.195 to 0.498; PCA=91.3%-100.0%) and synkinesis (ICC=−0.037 to 0.637; PCA=69.6%-87.0%) but was good to excellent for voluntary movement (ICC=0.601 to 0.906; PCA=56.5%-91.3%) in face-to-face and video assessments. Bland-Altman plots indicated normal limits of agreement within ±1 between face-to-face and video-assessed scores only for the temporal and buccal branches of the Sydney system and for resting symmetry in the Sunnybrook system. CONCLUSIONS Video assessment of FNP with the House-Brackmann and Sunnybrook systems was as reliable as face-to-face but with insufficient agreement, especially in the assessment of synkinesis. However, video assessment does not account for the impact of real-time interactions that occur during tele-assessment sessions.

Purpose – One purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of young Muslim tourist generation's interest to recommend and visit halal tourist attraction. Design – The interest of young Muslim tourist generation to recommend and visit Halal attractions is influenced by knowledge (KNO), religiosity (REG), perceived behavioral control (PBC), subjective norms (SN) and attitudes (ATT). Methodology – The respondents are the young Muslim generation living in 27 provinces in Indonesia and were selected using the purposive sampling method. The use of purposive sampling method is to support this research where information is obtained from specific target groups. Approach – It was found that in the intention of local Muslim tourists to select and recommend halal tourist destinations, several factors influence their intention such as knowledge, religiosity, perceived behavioral control, subjective norms and attitudes. Moreover, knowledge and religiosity influence tourists' attitude to visit halal tourist destinations. Originality of the research – This study contributes to behavioral theory and extends the application of the theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) in the context of halal tourist studies.

Objective: Primary school teachers have been identified as important partners in the prompt recognition, referral and management of children with ADHD. However their capacity to function in these roles is hinged on their extent of knowledge about ADHD. Furthermore teachers' knowledge about ADHD may influence the education and clinical outcomes of children with ADHD. This study assessed the impact of an educational intervention program on knowledge about ADHD among primary school teachers in Lagos, Nigeria. Method: An experimental study of the impact of a brief educational intervention on ADHD literacy among primary school teachers (n=144) in Lagos, Nigeria. At baseline, knowledge about symptoms and treatment of ADHD was elicited with a vignette-based questionnaire. The intervention consisted of the administration of an educational leaflet about ADHD, designed by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. One week post-intervention, the baseline assessments were repeated. Results: At baseline, 92.4% of the teachers could not recognise features of ADHD. The majority were also unaware of the role of teachers, medications and psychological interventions in the management of children with ADHD. Post-intervention, significantly greater number of respondents compared with baseline (88.0% vs. 7.6%) correctly identified symptoms of ADHD (p<0.005), and agreed that ADHD could be successfully managed with medications (63.2% vs. 9.0%; p<0.005) and psychological treatment (79.2% vs. 16.7%; p<0.005). Conclusion: A simple low-cost educational intervention is effective in improving knowledge about ADHD among primary school teachers in the shortterm. Further research is required to evaluate the impact of this intervention in the long term.

Acetazolamide (AZ) is a medication commonly used to prevent acute mountain sickness (AMS) during rapid ascent to high altitude. However, it is unclear whether AZ use impairs exercise performance; previous literature regarding this topic is equivocal. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of AZ on time-trial (TT) performance during a 30-h exposure to hypobaric hypoxia equivalent to 3,500-m altitude. Ten men [sea-level peak oxygen consumption (VO2peak): 50.8 ± 6.5 mL·kg−1·min−1; body fat %: 20.6 ± 5.2%] completed 2 30-h exposures at 3,500 m. In a crossover study design, subjects were given 500 mg/day of either AZ or a placebo. Exercise testing was completed 2 h and 24 h after ascent and consisted of 15-min steady-state treadmill walking at 40%–45% sea-level VO2peak, followed by a 2-mile self-paced treadmill TT. AMS was assessed after ~12 h and 22 h at 3,500 m. The incidence of AMS decreased from 40% with placebo to 0% with AZ. Oxygen saturation was higher ( P < 0.05) in AZ versus placebo trials at the end of the TT after 2 h (85 ± 3% vs. 79 ± 3%) and 24 h (86 ± 3% vs. 81 ± 4%). There was no difference in time to complete 2 miles between AZ and PL after 2 h (20.7 ± 3.2 vs. 22.7 ± 5.0 min, P > 0.05) or 24 h (21.5 ± 3.4 vs. 21.1 ± 2.9 min, P > 0.05) of exposure to altitude. Our results suggest that AZ (500 mg/day) does not negatively impact endurance exercise performance at 3,500 m. NEW & NOTEWORTHY To our knowledge, this is the first study to examine the impact of acetazolamide (500 mg/day) versus placebo on self-paced, peak-effort exercise performance using a short-duration exercise test in a hypobaric hypoxic environment with a repeated-measures design. In the present study, acetazolamide did not impact exercise performance after 2-h or 24-h exposure to 3,500-m simulated altitude.
