Conventional methods to assess the quality of service on freeways are based on the comparison of a specific peak hour traffic demand to the capacity of the facility, which is usually measured at a single uniform bottleneck section. However, estimating the quality of service of one bottleneck section may not be sufficient to assess the performance of an entire freeway facility. A driver traveling along a freeway corridor may actually encounter multiple flow breakdowns at independent bottleneck sections, which affect the overall quality of service. This paper introduces a comprehensive approach that considers an entire freeway corridor as a system consisting of successive independent bottlenecks with different characteristics, and can be used to estimate the optimum sustainable volume. The methodology is based on the sustained flow index, which is defined as the product of traffic volume and the probability of survival at this volume. Optimum volumes of two real-world corridors are estimated based on the new derivations. The empirical results reveal that the optimum volume and the capacity of an entire corridor is less than those of its most restrictive bottleneck.

Multipath Transmission Control Protocol (MPTCP) is an extension of TCP meant for multihomed devices, which uses all the available interfaces for a single connection. MPTCP was evolved for Bandwidth aggregation and re silence to network failure. The wireless networks of multihomed devices are of different characteristics, when used together decreases Quality of Service (QoS). MPTCP schedulers tried to fill this gap with different approaches. In this paper we tried to study these schedulers in different network scenarios and came with the findings that to achieve good throughput and decrease download time, only fast paths are preferred.

In this paper, we present a graphical tool, which will help us with algorithms that are used for finding Quality of Service. This tool relates these algorithms to the real world and thus provides a better insight into the actual problems of deploying sensors in a field and finding out whether QoS would be achieved or not. We have used Mathematical Gur Game and its application to deploy the sensors in the homogeneous are, which is selected from the Irregular Polygon.

Nowadays, the number of Web services on the Internet is quickly increasing. Meanwhile, different service providers offer numerous services with the similar functions. Quality of Service (QoS) has become an important factor used to select the most appropriate service for users. The most prominent QoS-based service selection models only take the certain attributes into account, which is an ideal assumption. In the real world, there are a large number of uncertain factors. In particular, at the runtime, QoS may become very poor or unacceptable. In order to solve the problem, a global service selection model based on uncertain QoS was proposed, including the corresponding normalization and aggregation functions, and then a robust optimization model adopted to transform the model. Experiment results show that the proposed method can effectively select services with high robustness and optimality.

Cloud federation is an architecture that allows cloud providers to make use of their unallocated virtual machines, by combining their resources to serve a pool of cloud consumers whose requests cannot be handled by any of these providers alone. A client is willing to rent computing resources from the cloud providers or federations due to the advantages they can provide. The quality of service (QoS) is one of the main factors that attracts or discourages the clients from renting such services. What complicates the process is having the actual QoS delivered being worse than the promised QoS. Such could lead to the client changing federation, and the latter getting dissociated. Some of the main reasons that could result in worsening the QoS are encountering passive malicious cloud providers after the federation formation, and having unstable federation formation. In this thesis, we present solutions for such problems in order to increase the lifespan of the formed federations, by introducing a maximin game to prevent the malicious providers from accomplishing their wicked schemes without getting penalized, and advancing a genetic and an evolutionary game theoretical models for the federation formation process to bypass the dynamicity boundaries. Experiments conducted using CloudHarmony real-world dataset revealed that both of our solutions were able to increase the total profit obtained by the federations and ameliorate the QoS delivered, granting the cloud consumer a great experience with the service.

With the advocacy of green renewable energy, Electric Vehicles (EVs) have gradually become the mainstream in the automobile market. Due to the finite edge resources of the Internet of EVs, this paper integrates idle communication, caching and computational resources of EVs to enrich the available resources for vehicular task migration. Considering the limited capacity and resources of EVs, a distributed lightweight imitation learning-based efficient Task cOoperative migration Policy Integrating 3C resource policy, named TOPIC, is proposed to maximize the obtained quality of service. The experimental results based on the real-world traffic dataset of Hangzhou (China) demonstrate the QoS obtained based on the expert policy and agent policy of TOPIC is about 3 times higher than other representative policies.

One of the problems with remote imaging which purports to represent the real world (Tele-presence) is that the images are two-dimensional and the “real” world is three dimensional. When viewing many objects, the lack of depth perceptiorican be a serious deficiency. For example, one would want a micro-surgeon to have a good idea how deep to cut into tissue during a tele-presence operation. There is a wealth of three dimensional information in light, SEM, AFM, confocal, and computer reconstructed or simulated objects. To transfer that information faithfully over the networks using broadcast quality high definition video transmission technologies such as MPEG2 may require as much as 20 Mbps per channel. Furthermore, stereo imaging is particularly sensitive to any phase delays and jitter between the two eye channels. Control of these parameters requires advance quality of service features that current internet does not provide, but that may be available on high-performance intranets. All this may present a problem for routine use of the stereo facility .The next generation of Internet, however, will be able to routinely provision much higher bandwidth and other quality of service, in general through protocols that will allow for not only full screen full resolution television but also the use of two channels (left and right) that can stay in fairly close synchrony.
