No Rest-in-Peace for Readers after PM's Demise
Keyword(s):
A three-wave panel study of some 900 former subscribers tracked changes in mass media use habits after an afternoon daily ceased publication in 1983. The demise left its sister morning paper the city's only daily. Former PM subscribers were expected to turn to the AM paper for news and information, or to rely more on substitute print media news sources. Instead, changes resulted in a state of media use anomoly for nearly one-third of the former PM's subscribers. Changes in use are provided for each mass medium. Possible explanations and implications for the newspaper industry are discussed.
