This article reports the findings of two studies focussed on the personal and professional values of school administrators. Two themes were employed as general organizers for the research: the influence of personal preference and transrational principles on the problem solving actions of school administrators and the value conflicts that administrators experience in their work. One study was conducted in Umea (Sweden), the other in Toronto (Canada). The conceptual framework integrates Hodgkinson's (1991) values theory with information processing theory. Action research methods were adopted as a way of overcoming the special problems associated with conducting research on values. Findings suggest that administrators’ personal values are significant influences on problem solving. Specifically, the rational value types of consensus and consequences predominate in the valuation processes of school principals, personal preferences are infrequently articulated, and transrational principles are employed under particular circumstances.

The preparation of school administrators, particularly school principals, has become a topic of discussion by many groups. Common to all discussions is the question “What knowledge and skills should aspiring administrators have and how should they be prepared?” Bennis (1989) indicated “how we translate this knowledge into action—is both complex and deep, as well as chronically elusive” (p. 30). The purpose of this article is to describe how an educational administration program model blends a knowledge base of educational administration and the performance skills needed for effective practice. The discussion focuses on the performance skill development of the aspiring administrator using the conceptual framework of the program model. It also offers performance-based illustrations and initial program evaluation.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to develop a synthesized conceptual framework for artificial intelligence (AI) adoption in the field of business-to-business (B2B) marketing. Design/methodology/approach A conceptual development approach has been adopted, based on a content analysis of 59 papers in peer-reviewed academic journals, to identify drivers, barriers, practices and consequences of AI adoption in B2B marketing. Based on these analyses and findings, a conceptual model is developed. Findings This paper identifies the following two key drivers of AI adoption: the shortcomings of current marketing activities and the external pressure imposed by informatization. Seven outcomes are identified, namely, efficiency improvements, accuracy improvements, better decision-making, customer relationship improvements, sales increases, cost reductions and risk reductions. Based on information processing theory and organizational learning theory (OLT), an integrated conceptual framework is developed to explain the relationship between each construct of AI adoption in B2B marketing. Originality/value This study is the first conceptual paper that synthesizes drivers, barriers and outcomes of AI adoption in B2B marketing. The conceptual model derived from the combination of information processing theory and OLT provides a comprehensive framework for future work and opens avenues of research on this topic. This paper contributes to both AI literature and B2B literature.

These Design has become important to corporate competitiveness. Studies on design have paid much attention to innovation (Von Stamm, 2003; Utterback et al., 2006). A growing number of scholars see the design as the driver of the innovation, and two key ideas has gathering attention. One is the concept of “HCD (Human-Centered-Design)” and “Design Thinking” (Brown, 2008, Martin, 2009), and the other is the concept of “DDI (Design-Driven Innovation)” (Verganti, 2009). However, there is tension between two deterministic views of design-led innovation. On one hand, design is seen as a creative problem-solving activity that works towards a desired state of affairs that can be determined in advance. On the other hand, design is seen as exploratory research through which an understanding of an issue or problem emerges. This paper investigates the contribution of the designer’s attitude relating to problem-solving/exploratory research, and provides conceptual framework that explain relations between dual nature of designer’s attitude and design-led innovation.

This study aims to determine school principals’ level of administrative competencies according to the perceptions of teachers and principals. The study group consists of 134 teachers and 35 principals. The data of the research, which was designed in the survey model, were collected with the "School Administrators' Competences Inventory". The results revealed that school principals and teachers exhibited high levels of administrative Competencies as expected from the school principals. The opinions of the teachers and principals did not differ significantly in the comparisons according to gender, seniority, school type, and duties (teacher vs. principal). Likewise, the correlation coefficients between the administrative competence subscales were estimated above a moderate level. As a result of the research, it can be said that teachers and principals have positive views about the competencies of the school administrators. However, though the Ministry of National Education and the academic community put great emphasis on it, and a significant deal of knowledge and database has been accumulated about it; it is an important problem that school administration has not been defined as a profession in Turkey and no sustainable policy in this aspect has been developed yet.

The study aims to identify the organizational challenges facing school administrators in Tulkarem directorate from the point of view of the school principals themselves. In addition, it shows the impact of the variables related to the gender, qualification, experience and geographical location on organizational challenges. An online questionnaire was used as a tool to collect data. The study sample consisted of 138 male and female principals selected randomly. Moreover, the descriptive analytical approach was used to analyze the data through the SPSS statistical analysis software, and to draw the conclusions. The results of the research have shown that the section stating the principals' lack of familiarity with new developments in management science and the lack of valid basic data needed to prepare plans was great. In addition, the arithmetic average was very big for the sections stating the following: the proliferation of generalizations and decisions in such a way which makes following up their implementation take time and effort at the expense of other work, obligating schools to follow rules and instructions to the letter, poor cooperation between the school administration and senior levels of administration, and the regulations established on ideal grounds are difficult to be realistically complied with at schools. Moreover, the results have indicated that there were no individual differences in the most common organizational administrative challenges among public school principals in Tulkarem governorate according to gender, specialization, qualification and years of experience. The researcher recommends that schools should be provided with integral administrative staff, schools should be also provided with equipment and materials, principals should be given more authority especially with regard to students' problems, teachers should be provided and their teaching loads should be reduced, accurate scientific criteria should be established for selecting and training members of school administration, overlapping of school administration specialties should be avoided, and communication channels should be established between the school administration and educational administration.

Constructing a conceptual framework has always been a problem for many postgraduate students. Even though the students are exposed to many different tools as well as guided with 21st-century skills along the process of conducting research, many of them are seeking helps to complete their postgraduate studies in stages.  A solid conceptual framework is an output of conducting a literature review. The construction of a conceptual framework involves multiple research skills. To meet the requirement of thesis completion, supervisors are always emphasizing the implementation of these skills as well as finding the best practice while addressing challenges of guiding them to understand and construct a conceptual framework. Meanwhile, the supervisors must get a better picture of how their postgraduate students undergo the process of constructing a conceptual framework from their literature review. Hence, the thesis supervisors need to understand a better way for helping them to achieve the level of competency. This study aims to investigate supervisors’ perceptions of guiding their postgraduate students to construct a conceptual framework in fulfillment of the advanced skills. A qualitative approach was employed to collect data. Three thesis supervisors were interviewed. They provided feedback on their experiences of supervision. Specifically, their experiences in supervising and guiding students to work on the conceptual framework were explored. The findings show that their postgraduate students have some problems in conducting literature reviews critically. On the other hand, the supervisors agreed that they play important roles as supervisors to guide and engage the students so that they can think flexibly; hence, producing a good piece of a conceptual framework.  This study provides insights on the focused aspects for the development of skills in constructing conceptual frameworks among postgraduate students.   Pembinaan kerangka konsep merupakan salah satu masalah yang dihadapi di kalangan pelajar pasca siswazah. Viewing school administrators as learners, the purpose of this investigation was to assess the relationship between learner perceptions of differential training systems and role and performance in school administration. The findings suggest that school administrators view problem solving as an important descriptor of role and performance and that clinical training experiences may be at least as relevant or more relevant to the process of school problem solving and administration than more traditional training experiences. A perceived inverse relationship between the relative hinderance (paperwork) level of instructional media and relevance to practice was noted. School administrators saw other administrators and their professional staff as being at least as relevant to performance in a clinical setting as the training component's instructional staff.
