Multilevel Adaptation in Human Engineering of Information Display Systems

Only two levels of adaptation are used in the most present human engineering projects of information display systems—total and contingent. At the same time experimental and theoretical analysis of the statistical relationships between structures of information display and values of psychological factors of complexity of operators' problem solving shows that three additional levels of adaptation are necessary. There are group, individual and individually—operative levels. Some mathematical methods of evaluation of optimal distribution of information displays between individuals operators, combinations of man with different individual characteristics in one operators group are worked out.

Well known long-persistent phosphorous strontium aluminates were synthesized by conventional combustion method in a furnace at about 600oC. By incorporating the obtained phosphorous strontium aluminates into organic host polystyrene, we prepared the organic-inorganic composite material (i.e., phosphor-polystyrene) which could be cast into flexible and green-light- emitting films. The morphology of the obtained phosphorous strontium aluminates and the phosphorescence of the organic-inorganic composite films were characterized with the scanning electron microscopy and the fluorescence spectroscopy, respectively. Our results show that the organic-inorganic composite films can be used as green-light- emitting roll-able screens in the industry of information displays.

The article outlines the main features of the use of the theory of indefinite bundles in the evaluation of the cost-effectiveness of investment projects.He analysis of methods for quantifying the effectiveness of the IP under uncertainty suggests that the existing methods either eliminate the uncertainty from the IP model, which is inappropriate, since uncertainty is an integral characteristic of any forecast, or are unable to formally describe, and take into account all possible varieties of types of uncertainty.Methods based on the theory of fuzzy sets refer to the methods of evaluation and decision-making under conditions of uncertainty. Their use implies the formalization of the initial parameters and performance targets of the IP in the form of a vector of interval values (fuzzy interval), the hit in each interval of which is characterized by a certain degree of uncertainty.Also, the fuzzy-interval approach has advantages in solving the problems of forming an optimal portfolio of investment projects. To solve the problem of forming an optimal IP portfolio, a large number of models for the formation of an optimal IP portfolio have been developed, differing from each other in the form of objective functions, variable properties, used by mathematical methods, and uncertainty.

User interaction with a virtual reality system may be accompanied with a sense of presence, the illusion of reality of virtual environment. The emergence of a sense of presence is determined by both technological and psychological factors. The authors show that a sense of presence may depend on the individual characteristics of cognitive control, i.e. the system of metacognition providing cognitive system setting on the solution of specific problems in context. It was found that the expression of a feeling of presence may depend on the efficiency of the control switch functions, interference suppression and updating of working memory. At the same time, the dependence of the severity of the sense of presence on the effectiveness of cognitive control differs in virtual environments with different levels of immersion.

Resumen: Introducción: La información sobre la correcta ergonomía se ha incrementado para disminuir la prevalencia de síntomas lumbares y/o cervicales en la población. Sin embargo, el acondicionamiento y el mobiliario de las instituciones universitarias no se adecuan a las características individuales de los sujetos, lo cual dificulta el proceso. Objetivo: analizar los cambios en la postura, al incorporar un apoyo isquiático en sujetos jóvenes. Material: Estudio transversal comparativo sobre 76 sujetos universitarios voluntarios (24 varones y 52 mujeres, edad media de 20,7; DT ± 2,64). Se registró la postura mediante fotogrametría sagital con un software 2D, en posición de sedestación y en sedestación corregida mediante la colocación de un apoyo isquiático de 5 centímetros de altura. Posteriormente se analizaron los ángulos cráneo-vertebral (CV), cervical superior (CS), cervical inferior (CI), lumbar (AL). Resultados: Se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre la posición sedente y la sedente corregida en todos los ángulos analizados (p<0,01). Consiguiendo la disminución de la flexión lumbar y de la posición de cabeza adelantada. Conclusión: La utilización de un apoyo isquiático de 5 centímetros de altura en la posición de sedestación, disminuye la flexión lumbar y la posición de cabeza adelantada en comparación con una sedestación sin apoyo en sujetos jóvenes.Palabras clave: postura, columna, comunicación, ingeniería humana, educación para la salud.Abstract: Introduction: Information about correct ergonomics is increasing in order to avoid cervical and lumbar symptoms. However, the furniture of the colleges does not fit the individual characteristics, which make difficult the process. Objective: Analyse the posture change, when an ischial support is incorporated in young population. Methods: Cross sectional study. 76 volunteers students were included (24 men and 53 women, average age 20,7 SD ± 2,64). Posture was registered with sagittal photogrammetry and analysed by 2D software, in sitting position and corrected sitting position by 5-centimeters-isquial-support. Then, Neck Slope angle (NS), Upper Cervical angle (UP) Lower cervical angle (LC) and lumbar spine angle (LS) were analysed. Results: Statistical differences were found between the sitting position and corrected sitting position in all analysed angles (p<0,01). This means less lumbar flexion and forward head position. Conclusion: A 5-centimeter-isquial-support decrease lumbar flexion and forward head position compared to sitting position without ischial support in young adults.Keywords: posture, spine, communication, human engineering, health education.

Commuterline plays an important role for transportation planning in Indonesia, and it is essential to learn more on how to motivate people to actively use this public transportation facility. This paper presents an empirical investigation to explore different factors influencing the use of this publica transportation facility. The proposed study develops a questionnaire in Likert scale and distributes it among 374 people who had good experience of using commuterline in their daily lives. The questionnaire is designed to learn the effects of environmental, individual, consumer resources and psychological factors. Using some statistical techniques, the study has determined that psychological factors are the most important elements influencing consumer behavior to use this public transportation followed by consumer resources, product knowledge and individual characteristics.

Licensed mariners carried out two simulated navigation studies testing electronic chart and information display systems (ECDIS) against paper chart navigation. In the first study, six mariners each completed approaches to Halifax, Nova Scotia, harbour with good and bad visibility and a range of wind and currents. Conditions included chart with radar, ECDIS with radar overlay and ECDIS with separate radar. ECDIS produced better performance and a smaller workload than paper charts and the radar overlay was slightly better than the separate radar display. In the second study, six new mariners completed exercises with low visibility and heavy or light radar traffic using ECDIS with radar overlay, ECDIS without overlay and ECDIS with optional overlay. Mariners preferred the optional overlay but all three conditions produced about equal performance. Based on mariners' performance and expressed preference, we recommend that ECDIS systems provide optional radar overlays.
