Meaningful operational testing requires: a test plan which will lead to the measurement of critical human performance in a methodologically sound manner; an evaluation of the acceptability of the resulting measured performance; and a diagnosis of the causes of inadequate human performance. The Human Resources Test and Evaluation System (HRTES) is a method for aiding test planners and evaluators in the production of test plans, evaluations, and diagnoses which include a consideration of human performance. This paper consists of general descriptions of the problems of operational testing, the HRTES concepts for solving these problems, and the method for a formative evaluation of HRTES, itself.

In the College, performance evaluation system is directly related to the harmonious development of the school. Taking into account the factors in the evaluation system is fuzzy, so this paper uses fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model. But the model is too subjective, so this paper combines neural network and data envelopment analysis method, which ensures that fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model is reasonable and scientific, and good school development and teacher self-interest. The performance assessment process, not only enables the combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis, but also fair and reasonably reflect the achievements of teachers, while this method is easy to use, wide application, and can be well applied in practice.

Vehicle handling and stability has effect on positive safety of automotive directly. Test system of handling and stability is built for its road test and the test variables signal can be acquired and stored synchronously. Based on MATLAB GUI, software is developed for the test data processing, so that the stored data is to be analyzed and handling and stability test result is given by the software automatically. Using the test system in paper, handling and stability road test of one domestic sedan is fulfilled and scored, which verifies the applicability of the test system and scoring software in paper.

The test system for technical abilities of unmanned vehicles is gradually developed from the single test to comprehensive test. The pre-established test and evaluation system can promote the development of unmanned ground vehicles. The 2009 Future Challenge: Intelligent Vehicles and Beyond (FC’09) pushed China's unmanned vehicles out of laboratories. This paper proposed to design a more scientific and comprehensive test system for future competitions to better guide and regulate the development of China's unmanned vehicles. According to the design idea of stage by stage and level by level, the hierarchical test content from simple to advanced, from local to overall is designed. Then the hierarchic test environment is established according to the levels of test content. The test method based on multi-platform and multi-sensor is put forward to ensure the accuracy of test results. The testing criterion framework is set up to regulate future unmanned vehicle contests and to assess the unmanned vehicles scientifically and accurately.

Previous attempts to predict resident clinical performance based solely on measures of cognitive skills have been uniformly unsuccessful. For the past 8 years, a formative residency evaluation system has been used that includes yearly comprehensive oral in-training examinations (OITEs) assessing each resident's performance in the three areas of professional competence: cognitive, psychomotor, and affective. The results of these examinations and scores received on the written in-training examination (WITE) given by the American Board of Pediatrics were compared with faculty ratings received during the subsequent year of residency. No significant correlation was found at any level of training between WITE scores and clinical performance. Analysis based on clinical setting did not improve these results. Oral intraining examination scores, however, were highly correlated with clinical performance ratings. In addition, with oral in-training examination scores, the "problem" interns—those whose clinical performance rating placed them in the lower 10% of interns—were predicted with a high degree of significance, sensitivity, and specificity. Predictions based on WITEs were not significant. Simultaneous evaluation of all three areas of professional competence should be done when predictions of resident performance are attempted. The OITE is a powerful formative evaluation tool, providing valuable learning experiences as residents are objectively assessed while they perform patient-centered tasks that represent critical skills in the practice of medicine. It allows early detection and possible amelioration of future problems in the clinical performance of a resident.

This article describes a four-phased process used by the U.S. Navy for the systematic design and development of interactive videodisc (IVD) courseware (ICW). Phase One of the process, Analysis and Alternatives, describes the methodology for analyzing job/task data for the purpose of verifying the appropriateness of interactive videodisc as the medium of instructional choice, and for analyzing the proposed problem, and scoping out the approach and solution. Phase Two, System Design, describes the process for the layout and design of the IVD instructional product. Phase Three, System Development, discusses the process followed to actually develop and construct an IVD system. Lastly, Phase Four, System Test and Evaluation, will describe the formative evaluation process through which the IVD product and system is proven ready for use.

Abstract It is a common problem that many computer tools intended to enhance human performance in design or manufacturing planning do not do so. In many cases they may actually degrade performance. One way to increase the probability that a tool will meet users needs is to include frequent periodic usability assessments in the development process so feedback from users can be incorporated in new iterations of the software design. This paper describes an example of one such assessment applied to a Mediator, a feature extraction and process planning tool for assisting process planners to explore plan options more quickly and thoroughly. There exists a wide variety of usability assessment techniques which can mostly be divided into two broad categories: summative evaluations which provide in-depth assessments in the final stages of software development, and formative evaluations which tend to be smaller in scale and are used to provide guidance for “forming” subsequent software versions during the development cycle. In this work, we describe a formative usability assessment. The study indicated that Mediator was meeting its design goal of broadening the users exploration of manufacturing options, in some cases producing high quality manufacturing options which the expert users had not considered on their own. The study also provided formative redesign information gleaned which will help future versions of Mediator to better meet the actual needs of process planners.

This paper presents a review of present efforts to deal with the visual and human performance factors involved in low level, high speed flight. The program is being developed by the 162nd Fighter Weapons School, USAFR, Tucson, Arizona, in conjunction with the Human Resources Laboratory, Williams AFB Arizona. The underlying structure of this training program is presented as well as some of the training methodologies.
