In this paper, we deal with the vibrational behavior of mechanical structures interconnected by contacts with friction. The focus is set on the utilization of friction forces that are generated in the contact interfaces with the objective to increase damping and to reduce vibration amplitudes in order to prevent structures from failures owing to high resonance stresses. We present a comparison and classification of different contact models that are most commonly used, including the derivation of a three-dimensional contact model under consideration of rough surfaces. We give different solution methods for problems with non-linear friction elements. The effectiveness of friction damping devices is pointed out by a single-degree-of-freedom friction oscillator, beam-like structures with frictional interfaces and different underplatform dampers in turbo-machinery applications. It can be shown that in many practical applications friction damping devices provide a remarkable decrease of vibration amplitudes.

In this paper, the dynamics mechanism of stick and non-stick motion for a dry-friction oscillator is discussed. From the theory of Luo in 2004, the conditions for stick and non-stick motions are achieved. The stick and non-stick periodic motions are predicted analytically through the appropriate mapping structures. The local stability and bifurcation for such periodic motions are obtained. The stick motions are illustrated through the displacement, velocity and force responses. This investigation provides a better understanding of stick and nonstick motions of the linear oscillator with dry-friction. The methodology presented in this paper is applicable to oscillators with non-linear friction forces.

Universals Archive (Universal #1926) indicates a universal tendency for sound symbolism in reference to the expression of diminutives and augmentatives. The research ( Štekauer et al. 2009 ) carried out on European languages has not proved the tendency at all. Therefore, our research was extended to cover three language families – Indo-European, Niger-Congo and Austronesian. A three-step analysis examining different aspects of phonetic symbolism was carried out on a core vocabulary of 35 lexical items. A research sample was selected out of 60 languages. The evaluative markers were analyzed according to both phonetic classification of vowels and consonants and Ultan's and Niewenhuis' conclusions on the dominance of palatal and post-alveolar consonants in diminutive markers. Finally, the data obtained in our sample languages was evaluated by means of a three-dimensional model illustrating the place of articulation of the individual segments.

AbstractThe selection and manipulation of objects in Virtual Reality face application developers with a substantial challenge as they need to ensure a seamless interaction in three-dimensional space. Assessing the advantages and disadvantages of selection and manipulation techniques in specific scenarios and regarding usability and user experience is a mandatory task to find suitable forms of interaction. In this article, we take a look at the most common issues arising in the interaction with objects in VR. We present a taxonomy allowing the classification of techniques regarding multiple dimensions. The issues are then associated with these dimensions. Furthermore, we analyze the results of a study comparing multiple selection techniques and present a tool allowing developers of VR applications to search for appropriate selection and manipulation techniques and to get scenario dependent suggestions based on the data of the executed study.

With the increase of the number of loaded goods, the number of optional loading schemes will increase exponentially. It is a long time and low efficiency to determine the loading scheme with experience. Genetic algorithm is a search heuristic algorithm used to solve optimization in the field of computer science artificial intelligence. Genetic algorithm can effectively select the optimal loading scheme but unable to utilize weight and volume capacity of cargo and truck. In this paper, we propose hybrid Genetic and fuzzy logic based cargo-loading decision making model that focus on achieving maximum profit with maximum utilization of weight and volume capacity of cargo and truck. In this paper, first of all, the components of the problem of goods stowage in the distribution center are analyzed systematically, which lays the foundation for the reasonable classification of the problem of goods stowage and the establishment of the mathematical model of the problem of goods stowage. Secondly, the paper abstracts and defines the problem of goods loading in distribution center, establishes the mathematical model for the optimization of single car three-dimensional goods loading, and designs the genetic algorithm for solving the model. Finally, Matlab is used to solve the optimization model of cargo loading, and the good performance of the algorithm is verified by an example. From the performance evaluation analysis, proposed the hybrid system achieve better outcomes than the standard SA model, GA method, and TS strategy.

The difficulty of achieving good distal contact between a cementless hip endoprosthesis and the femur is well established. This finite element study investigates the effect on the stress distribution within the femur due to varying lengths of distal gap. Three-dimensional anatomical models of two different sized femurs were generated, based upon computer tomograph scans of two cadaveric specimens. A further six models were derived from each original model, with distal gaps varying from 10 to 60 mm in length. The resulting stress distributions within these were compared to the uniform contact models. The extent to which femoral geometry was an influencing factor on the stress distribution within the bone was also studied. Lack of distal contact with the prosthesis was found not to affect the proximal stress distribution within the femur, for distal gap lengths of up to 60 mm. In the region of no distal contact, the stress within the femur was at normal physiological levels associated with the applied loading and boundary conditions. The femoral geometry was found to have little influence on the stress distribution within the cortical bone. Although localized variations were noted, both femurs exhibited the same general stress distribution pattern.

With 3D imaging of the multisonar beam and serious interference of image noise, detecting objects based only on manual operation is inefficient and also not conducive to data storage and maintenance. In this paper, a set of sonar image automatic detection technologies based on 3D imaging is developed to satisfy the actual requirements in sonar image detection. Firstly, preprocessing was conducted to alleviate the noise and then the approximate position of object was obtained by calculating the signal-to-noise ratio of each target. Secondly, the separation of water bodies and strata is realized by maximum variance between clusters (OTSU) since there exist obvious differences between these two areas. Thus image segmentation can be easily implemented on both. Finally, the feature extraction is carried out, and the multidimensional Bayesian classification model is established to do classification. Experimental results show that the sonar-image-detection technology can effectively detect the target and meet the requirements of practical applications.
