Efforts to combat ageism typically focus on negative attitudes toward members of an out-group. Changing attitudes also requires assessment and enhancement of positive attitudes. This study examined the psychometric properties of Allophilia scale when used to measure college students' positive attitudes toward persons with dementia. Data collected from 465 students were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis and multigroup analysis by gender to assess the validity and reliability of the Allophilia scale. Results showed that the Allophilia scale is valid both for male and female students. The Allophilia scale is a valid assessment tool for measuring positive attitudes toward persons with dementia. Use of this scale will contribute to our understanding of attitudes toward persons with dementia and has implications for the design of interventions to facilitate positive attitudes toward members of this out-group.

This study aimed to identify level of emotional stability and its relationship with constituting of friendships and family adjustment among students in the preparatory stage in Al- Buiena. The study sample consisted of (285) male and female students in the preparatory stage in Al- Buiena in Palestine in the second semester of the school year (2018/2019). To achieve the aim of the study, the researcher developed an Emotional Stability Scale, Constituting of Friendships Scale, and Family Adjustment Scale. Validity and reliability for the scales were obtained. The results showed that the levels of emotional stability and constituting of friendships and family adjustment among students in the preparatory stage were moderate. The results showed that there was a positive correlation between emotional stability and constituting of friendships and family adjustment among students in the preparatory stage. Several recommendations and suggestions were provided including the need for future research investigating the relationships between the emotional stability, and constituting of friendships, and family adjustment among other populations in the Palestinian society and using other student’s samples and to compare their results with the ones reported in the current study.

As dreaming is a universal phenomenon, it seems natural that everyone has a more or less explicitly defined attitude toward dreams. Recent studies indicate that positive and negative attitude toward dream scales—even given there is considerable overlap—might not be related to the same variables. The findings of the present online survey ( N = 2,056) using 22 attitude items indicated that positive and negative attitudes can be differentiated through confirmatory factor analysis and that variables like age, education, and frequent dream recall are differentially associated with positive and negative attitudes toward dreams. It would be very interesting to expand this study to investigate whether other variables, personality dimensions, general skepticism and so on, are associated with positive and negative attitudes toward dreams in different ways.

The present study aimed to examine the attitudes and types of metaphorical perceptions of male and female prospective English teachers (PETs) towards their English learning process. Elicitation sheet with the prompt “English learning is (like) … because …” was used to collect the data. The data were qualitatively analyzed by listing, naming, categorizing, and determining the metaphors. The results of the elicited metaphors reveal that male and female PETs’ attitudes towards English learning process include positive, negative, ambivalent, and neutral perceptions. Both male and female PETs viewed English learning in different attitudes. Male PETs generated more negative attitudes than the positive ones, while female PETs produced more positive attitudes than the negative ones. The findings also show that the metaphors were categorized into several types such as enjoyable activity, construction work, movement/journey, experience, planting/farming, exploration, and things. These types of metaphor imply the importance of the socio-cultural background of the learners. In conclusion, the metaphors help to determine appropriate strategies, methods, and materials for English teaching and learning.

The Primary Math Assessment (PMA) tool is increasingly being used in multiple districts in a northwestern state.  The PMA provides both screening and diagnostic information in six domains to assess mathematical proficiency in young students in their early educational years. A previous study using multidimensional Rasch analyses found support for the PMA’s six-dimensional theoretical framework, and that the PMA is a reliable mathematics assessment for early grades. This study extended the examination of a Rasch model, implementing exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, Item Response Theory, and Differential Item Functioning analyses. In doing so, this study found an IRT 2-PL model to fit best with these data and provided ways to improve the accuracy of measuring mathematical proficiency in early grades.

BACKGROUND Despite the limited use of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) in Indonesia, they have proven to be cost-effective in family planning programs. This study was aimed to identify the elements of ideas and views that people hold and their association with the use of LARC (intrauterine devices and implants) as a means of improving its utilization in Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) Province, Indonesia. METHODS Data were derived from the Improving Contraceptive Mix Methods survey of 6,384 respondents in Bima District, Central Lombok, and North Lombok, NTB Province, in 2015. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to identify suitable elements of 19 variables and generate three ideation elements on attitude, knowledge, and interpersonal communication. Subsequently, the association of three ideation elements with LARC use in NTB was examined. RESULTS Multivariate analysis revealed that LARC use was higher among women with a positive attitude toward LARC and high frequency of interpersonal communication. Women with positive attitudes had 7 times greater odds of using LARC than women with negative attitudes (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 7.18; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 6.09–8.55). Women with a high frequency of interpersonal communication were 2.4 times more likely to use LARC than women with low communication frequency (aOR = 2.40; 95% CI = 1.94–2.99). CONCLUSIONS To increase the use of LARC in NTB, family planning programs should not only focus on improving women’s knowledge but also prioritizing the promotion of positive attitudes toward LARC and facilitating interpersonal communication.

The study aimed at recognizing the degree of the teaching staff members in Irbid National University employment of citizenship values in teaching from the point of view of students, and also specify if there are differences with statistical significance ascribed to the variables of the study, they are: sex (male & female) and type of the faculty (human and scientific). To achieve the study's objectives, both researchers applied the descriptive-analytical method, employing a questionnaire prepared by both researchers. The instrument of study covered (21) items, they had been distributed after assuring procedures of validity and reliability on a class on a random class sample, its component is (512) male and female students from the community of study amounting to (2592) during the second semester of the studying year (2017-2018). The most prominent results were that the teaching staff member's citizenship values came at a medium degree through the teaching process. Also, differences with statistical significance did not appear ascribed to both variables of sex (male & female) and the faculty (human & scientific). And in light of results, the researchers recommend the University Administration entrust the subject of citizenship greater importance and bid the professors to evaluate those values and enhance them in cultural and academic domains and activities, through the different plans of the studying subjects.
